HOSE DRILL
We all know the drill aims to guide the trainee about various essential requirements for a good code of conduct. This includes discipline, obeying order etc.But have you ever wondered,” What the importance of a fire hose drill is?”
When a large amount of water ejects out at a high velocity from a hose, it exerts a reaction force on the person holding the hose. The prime importance of the fire hose drill is to make aware of the difficulty in holding the hose and to train them before any fire incident.
After reading this blog, you will come to know everything about fire hose drill.
General movement for handling delivery hose:
Lifting a roll of delivery hose
The crew member will stand at the back of the roll and facing the hose.
Advanced the left foot and bend the left knee.
Place the right hand on the top of the roll near the male coupling of the hose and the left hand on the underside of a roll just where it touches the ground.
The roll should be lifted in such a manner that male coupling should be on the top of the roll and points to the front.
At last, the roll should be lowered on the right shoulder. The right hand is still being placed on the top of the role and the left hand will be removed.
Carrying a role of delivery hose
Carry the hose by holding the roll with the right hand and the left hand should be free.
Connecting the hose
At the pump:-
Hold the inside lug of female coupling by the left hand and place the right hand on your hose.
Advance the left leg with knee bend. Then lower the hose and place it on the left thigh.
Hold the male coupling in the right-hand palm and just thrust the male coupling into the delivery of the pump.
After inserting, all the outer lug of the female coupling and unwind the delivery hose.
At the intermediate junction of the hose
Crew member should follow another member at about two paces behind him.
After completely unrolling the hose by the first member, the member should hold the hose in its right hand and stretch out the left hand with the palm facing behind.
The second member should slow down and just lower the male coupling.
The first member immediately holds the male coupling of the roll with his outstretched left hand and connects it with the female end.
Unrolling a delivery hose
The hose unwinds itself as the crew member moves forward by folding the lugs of female coupling.
Disconnecting the hose in hose drill
Just turn around and face the hydrant.
Grab the hose between the knees in a manner that the face should be toward female coupling.
Pull apart the lugs of female coupling by hands which automatically disconnect the male end.
