  • If you’ve ever wondered what Tennis grip you should be using for forehands and one handed backhands you’re going to love this video.
    In this video, I walk you through all of the grips for your forehand and one handed backhand, how to find each tennis grip once and for all… and what their strengths and weaknesses are… all so YOU can decide which one is best for you.
    Years ago, as a “hacking”, beginning tennis player I just grabbed the racket and started swinging away at the ball with no real rhyme or reason.
    I did ok, even won our league doubles championships with my friend John… but at the end of our season, coach Dan (think Rick Moranis with a handle bar mustache) told me…
    “Ramon… now we can finally fix your grips. It’s a miracle you ever hit the ball the way you’re holding that racket.”
    That summer coach Dan got me in the grips that I’ve been in for the past 15 years… and it was the single biggest transformation I’ve ever made… because it allowed all of the technical ninja secrets that I learned later to function properly.

    I use a semi western grip, and I use a continental grip for serving. Aaron krickstein used a western grip, and he was fun to watch. Great job on the video my friend.

      Hey Multi DesignGuy... what kind of backhand do you have?

    • @MultiDesignGuy
      @MultiDesignGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modelled exactly on Ivan Lendl one handed....now I see while it suited a hard ass like ivan Lendl it doesn’t utilise the non dominant arm enough...I will say though the Stan and roger style which i can technically copy it is a more sophisticated styleof hitting the ball , you need to consciously relax until you make impact which takes some mental discipline, Ivan was like a coiled spring (tough)..but it did help you with bio feedback as your dominant arm was tensed and ready (which can be fatiguing) ...

    Cool, when I was taught tennis 30 years ago they taught us to use semi western grip. I ended up using something between eastern and semi western. Though nowadays it seems to me that the continental grip is the best for amateurs as it seems to me like a grip that is rock solid and less prone to making mistakes but even pros like McEnroe and Connors seemed to use it and they were very successful with it till 90s. I really wonder if someone could get to the top 10 with continental grip nowadays. If we ever see a pro using it again.

      Erny, gracias. There's no rule that says you have to be in an eastern grip! I know plenty of great players that use a continental for EVERYTHING... I'd say if it's already in your muscle memory, and you can do what you want with the shots... leave it alone!

    If you do not like gripping so low or find pain in gripping so low, you can go higher up then what we see in video.
    I use a more western wrist on an eastern or grip somehow, I hit fine and can do the open wrist when I need to in grip style. I, however, never have finger out like people say is the "only grip" as I lose touch as I have less feeling with my hand so open because mine is so small being a Kids XL/XXL, Women's small or Men's/Unisex XS in gloves. I also have a unique grip where I am open on back side with thumb straight on racquet parallel to the handle on a size down from my normal 4 &1/4 inch to a 4 inch handle/grip. This second grip allows me to use a different grip when I my hands/fingers are tired/sore.

    I started learning tennis around 8 months ago and am at 38 years old lady 😊 I learned eastern grip, but am experiencing problems shooting the ball over the baseline all the time or even to the fence. When I get a short ball, can’t turn them in to the court and usually hitting them out of the baseline. Some of my shots are pretty solid, but not consistent. Thinking of switching to sw. What do u recommend? Can I adjust quickly and do u think it would help my consistency? Would like hear ur opinion also about the height of the players 😃 do u think taller people can play better tennis or have better serves? Especially women? Am 1.58 and have the feeling height helps with the speed of the serve or is it reall more the technique? Best regards from Germany
