  • EDIT! I did end up applying 3 coats of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal on the wood!
Vintage hexagon table turned into a pet bed! First seen on Pinterest and now I’ve gone and done it.
Repurposing furniture keeps it out of landfills and gives old pieces a new life.
    Products used:
House & Canvas paint - Shadow
    Fusion Mineral Paint - Bayberry
Dixie Belle paint - Collared Greens
Dixie Belle Gilding Wax - Gold
    Rust-Oleum Chalked topcoat - Matte
General Finishes Gel Stain - Nutmeg
Varathane wood stain - Dark Walnut
    General Finishes Arm-R-Seal topcoat

Looks great! I have these same tables just taller and thinner. I will be redoing them for my livingroom. Thanks for some great ideas.

Looks great, I really like the incomplete stencil. May have to adapt that for cardmaking!

Amazing idea for the legs, I haven’t seen that before. Looks fabulous. If I see a table like that here in the uk, I’m definitely going to do this.

Awesome idea! And it’s great you’re donating it!
Fancy brushes are unnecessary for priming. I don’t know how much that one cost, but you can buy a 36-pack of 2" chip brushes from Harbor Freight for $13. (It recently occurred to me that I oughta post a disclaimer, since I recommend HFT often. I don’t work there. I’m not paid to promote them. I just truly believe that when quality is not a big concern, that’s the place to go. The prices are low, and they even have coupons.😅)
I don’t think I’ve ever used gel stain before. I hear it’s a great product. That color is perfect!
    The paint contrast looks good.
I typed out a recommendation of using painters tape right before you used it.😂
    Great with the brackets. 👍
Excellent with the hardware! That gilding wax looks awesome!
A relative of mine bought a Navy jumpsuit from a thrift shop to use as a coverall for painting also. 😅
    Very nice outcome. 👍👍
If you didn’t like the aesthetic of the visible bolts on the front, you could’ve used woodfiller over it for a smoother appearance. I personally kinda like it as-is though.

Gel stain is awesome. Unfortunately we don’t have a HFT here. We have a tool town and Home Depot. I frequent both. Lol

Love that stencil. Where can I buy it? I would use the stencil as it's designed. Since it's designed by professionals. It has a great whimsical feel.

Thank you! I like to think outside the box! I don’t think the makers of the stencil would mind. The stencil is from Redesign, I’m sure it can be found online in multiple places but I bought mine from Life’sRosie on Etsy. 🥰

Probably not the color I would have gone with but it really pops with the gold and the black trim. Great job! Question: Why do you say that the wood didn’t need a top coat? It seems that any stained surface would benefit, no? Asking because I’ve never done this sort of work and would like to learn.

The stain I used had a top coat built in. So it wasn’t necessary, however after I made this video I do believe I added one or 2 coats of an oil based finish for added durability. I’m not always the best at giving all the information in my videos which I’m hoping will improve over time. Thank you! 🥰
