    Haha so much truth here. I used to skateboard when I was younger. Then life happened. Now fastforward almost 20 years my nephew found one of my old skateboards at my mums and decided he wanted to learn. From there I ended up picking up a surfskate and I've never been happier which has impacted my life in all the right ways.

    Love this video! I'm 42 and have always wanted to skateboard. In mid April during my kids' spring break, I got a longboard About two weeks ago I got a surfskate. I'm also attempting to learn how to freeskate. Having so much fun... never too old!

    Nice theme! Although it is with less intensity, my kids have definitely motivated me to do activities I thought were long gone from my life. As they mature, I look forward to doing more and kicking it up a knotch. My regret is not having kids younger so that I had the proper energy and physical health to keep up with them. I make it a point to learn nearly everything they learn alongside them including Cello, Drawing and much, much more. I have developed many new skills because of my kids.

      That's an amazing way to deal with kids and lack of time- just do it with them. They'll love doing what you do, and you might learn things along the way! haha

      And so many things which were "inaccessible" to us when younger, are now an Amazon order and a TH-cam training video away, for a lot of cases (obvs not cello!) :D

    Childhood dreams are like a two-mile journey that begins with one step. This is how I fulfilled my dreams of skiing, skydiving, traveling to distant places, horseback riding ... and the joy that I inherited something from the feeling of victory to fulfillment ...to my beloved daughter

    This is a wonderful topic and you are amazing. You gave me goosebumps. I was taking my kids to surf school, and one day my daughter asked me to try because she thought surfing wonderful . Instead of waiting for my children to finish their lessons I put on a wetsuit and jumped into the water ......... so I caught the surfing bug 😊
    It opened the door for me to realize a dream from my childhood at the age of 63, skateboarding! At first I was afraid of falling and my friends scared me more ... Three weeks ago, I started surfskating and I'm having fun. I find this channel fantastic, thank you Yaël....

    Good question! Last August, after a 45-year hiatus, I bought my first Penny board (36" longboard), which was then followed by a Penny 27", 22", 32" and Waterborne surfskate adapters, then the board that I REALLY wanted: an Arbor Flagship Zeppelin 32". Sadly I don't ride them as much as I would like because I split my rec time between skateboarding, road and mountain biking, and composing and recording original song ideas. But, what I have NOT been doing that I would love to do, is to bicycle tour, even just 2-day tours and camp out at a campsite. I have planned/mapped everything out, so now I just need to go do it since I have time this summer! Thank you for reminding me of this! Cheers and have a great weekend doing what you love doing!

    Nice video Sophie and very inspiring not only to new skaters and achievers but also to the pioneers like myself as I started skating in 1975 and stopped in 1980 and just recently got back into skateboarding and I skate today at age 60. I tell you it's never too late to inspire and be inspired doing things we want to do and love. I operate my channel as an inspirational channel and I send my students to you for instruction because of your true to surf style. Ride on Sophie...Ride On! Thanks for the stoke! 😄👍

      @@ALLaBOARDvideos Beginner surfskater myself. Started late 40's because my son (then aged 5) showed a huge interest in skateboarding, and I figured I needed to step up to keep him safe - glad I did, as sending him out there with a skateboard, while living on the side of a hill would have been a disaster. I did have a head start, as I hardboot snowboard, and the carving of surfskating appealed to me. THe problem is getting kid-focussed surfskates, and the expense. My YOW Arica is a bit big for him, but he definitely prefers it over his standard kid skateboard. It's all about exposing them to all these things at a young age, and seeing what sticks! :D

      @@ColindeSilva For sure- Carver has some smaller surfskates and there are some other companies of lower cost that have smaller surfskates.

    Great video! Thanks for the inspiration :-) I'm 34 years old and have two small children. Last summer I bought a surfskateboard (mainly because my dream is to learn surfing but I live in the middle of Germany 5 hours away from the sea). And the first times when I started to drive around in my neighbourhood and at the skatepark I was really like (what will the people think about me? I think I'm too old to start skateboarding right now...). But you are right. Don't mind what other people think about you and just do what you love. That is the only way for a happy life 🙂

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching, and I was so happy to read your comment. Yes exactly - I first went to the skatepark I was so self conscious about what people might think or say. Fact it, come with a detailed prepared goals for your practice, put on some music if that's your thing, and just focus on what you do. You'll quickly realize no one is looking and they are just as focus on their own stuff... and if they are looking, who cares?!?
      If you have the option- go on a surfing trip- find a good surf resort with good waves, instructors, and it'll be the best week you've had in a while. That would be my recommendation to people that don't live close, but are still excited and want to surf.
      Keep me posted- would love to know how it goes!

    I have another question I've never fell off any board just your cruiser now loving surfskating, I am absolutely terrified of falling on my back front not as much! What is your best advice? Thanks in advance 😊

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm fear is a real thing and we need to channel its energy elsewhere. Through the different extreme sports I found that when fear takes over our body reacts to it and we will fall because this is where we’re channeling our energy to. So when we’re afraid of falling on the floor for example, we will look at the floor, then our body will bend and posture changes causing us just that. Let’s try to put that aside- your eyes and energy should focus elsewhere. Focus in the horizon if you’re moving straight. Focus on the point of maneuver if that’s what you’re practicing, etc.
      then for actual physical progress m, take it slowly and gradually. If you’re afraid of turning to your backside for example, start with a small turn. Small weight shifts, turn your head slightly. And each time as you start feeling confident do a little more. Just a bit at a time. You will soon realize after a few days that you are way ahead of where you were just a few days prior. Slow, gradual and consistent is the name of the game.
