Great video again Geordie. Good to see some coming on well but of ckurse a shame on the predations. Male whitethroat sometimes build cock nests so maybe that is what you have here? Although normally more adorned with decor than this. Either way great work and look foreard to the next 😊
Yes.., I have heard all about the cock nests!! Yes..Whitethroat included! How would you describe the ‘cock nest’..platform or nest? What is a platform? Have I got 2 of them on the Blackcap front..? Really struggling with this?
@thegeordierambler4373 in terms of whitethroat, I'd best describe their "cock nests" as looking decidedly more messy and flimsy than the one that gets used but still with that deep cup shape. One thing that's always consistent though, in both my experience and the few articles available on the subject is that these nests destined to not be used are never lined at all, so it seems the lining is the key - if it gets lined you're onto a winner
@thegeordierambler4373 in terms of blackcap, the only thing I can say for certain is that males build platforms of dead grass, which they sometimes add plant down and feathers to. That said I've found a fair few similar to you, whereby that "skeletal" structure is in place but it never goes any further, so maybe that is also the males work?
