This is one of the few songs that can legitimately bring me to tears. She's not speaking random jibberish. The lyrics are from the perspective of a little kid whose parents are getting divorced. The "Hm? Whatcha say?" part is a confrontation, like "Why are you doing this to me? It's not fair. Oh you only meant well? Oh it's all for the best? Really?" It's amazingly powerful. Then at the end "What did she say?" Imagine being a little kid hearing one parent say this to the other through a door. I'm not gonna dissect the whole song or like tell you exactly what every line means, but just think about that the next time you listen. I didn't even go through divorce when I was younger, but this song almost makes me remember what she's remembering.
Honestly i can still freshly remember when my parents got divorced and honestly it’s just haunting me and believe me when i say every singular line makes sense
Interesting! I thought it was the perspective of her lover leaving her for another woman. But he’s acting like there isn’t someone else, it’s his choice…”hm what you say…what did She say?” “Oily marks appear on walls where pleasured moments hung before …” like she looked over at the wall as the breakup was happening and saw some hand prints from when they were still in love..
Where are we? What the hell is going on? The dust has only just begun to form Crop circles in the carpet Sinking, feeling Spin me around again And rub my eyes This can't be happening When busy streets A mess with people Would stop to hold their heads heavy Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first Oily marks appear on walls Where pleasure moments hung before The takeover The sweeping insensitivity of this Still life Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines Blood and tears They were here first Mm, what'd you say? Mm, that you only meant well Well of course you did Mm, what'd you say? Mm, that it's all for the best Of course it is Mm, what'd you say? Mm, that it's just what we need You decided this Mm, what'd you say? Mm, what did she say? Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit Oh, no, you don't care a bit Oh, no, you don't care a bit Uh-uh, you don't care a bit You don't care a bit You don't care a bit
I remember finding this on TH-cam when I was 13 years old. I'm 25 now and I'd do anything to go back in time. Live righteously folks. God's watching us.
I was 25 when this came out. I'm 45 now and this song hits just as hard as it did back then. Live in the moment, enjoy your family and friends and the simple things life gives you, never take anything for granted.
Never heard the original when I was younger I always hated hearing what I'm guessing was some remake. I'm glad I can listen to this being older but sad I don't hang out with the people I used to know, sucks growing up.
@@Krowsfoot I love the original version of this song, and hate that he used it in a way which cheapened the meaning, making it about a love story when that was never the point. It's like he used the sample knowing it'd make a lot of money, no matter how little effort was put into that insipid remix.
I was listening through this album for the first time today and was NOT PREPARED for the chorus of this song. I have watched so many vine comps as a kid that I literally felt my heart stop when i heard it oh my GOD.

The remaining evidence left at the “love”(crime)scene which some of us have to face and be I. The presence of and feel that some one does not care a bit
Fun fact - at 4:13 was a train going by her house and she realized it fit and somewhat harmonized so she kept it in the final recording
well, they were here first
That’s actually so cool
The melodic sound of an ice cream truck and food cooking on the stove (not rain) can also be heard in the waning seconds of the track.
I thought it was an ice cream truck

As someone desperately trying to keep her family together... This hurts a lot deeper... Momma's trying baby..

i love when the vocoder chord changes during a sustained syllable
It's 2007,
I'm in the back of my mom's dodge Durango. She's driving me to the skatepark Always listening to Imogen Heap. I miss & Love her ❤
😢
Miss her?
She's not dead..
How is it possible that this song still feels ahead of it's time? Amazing stuff Imogen
it’s beautiful how she made a song out of just lyrics
The final notes of this song are like a bee landing on a flower
No other song has made me feel emotions as much as this. And I thank her for that. It’s transcendent as a musical piece.
Was my featured song on my Myspace page back in the day. Lol. Love it still.
When I was younger I heard a different version of this which I hated, but the original, is just mesmerizingly beautiful
Freakin Jason derelo 😂
timeless! untouchable! this song is on a island by itself! ❤️
Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking, feeling
Spin me around again
And rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets
A mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this
Still life
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
Blood and tears
They were here first

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth

Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit

Hi
0:56 this freaking chord with that resonance, it’s difficult to pull that off and make it sound good

I'm 27 and found this song when I was 14 😌
I'm 29 & found this when I was 14. Tbh, I dont want a time machine. At all. People spend too much time idealizing their youth.

what you were listening to was jason druelos "stolen" version of this song. he stole the iconic "MMMM WHATCHA SAYYY"
Yep that's the one thanks for sharing that.

Shes using a BOSS VO-1 Vocoder in the key of A minor, for anybody interested in how to replicate this sound
The best part about this audio is that it never existed.

who got shot?
I know this song I listen to it and it has the meme inside it that I know and it goes: “mmm, what’d ya say?” In it
for anyone wondering where the meme section is 2:53
The best part about this is that 2:52 is my least fav part about this song.
