Even the most experienced of anglers have trouble with handling Bass. They are literally covered in weaponry, they have a set of dorsal spines, spines on the leading edge of most of the other fins, and also a set of what are called gill rakers on the gill plates, which can be like razor blades in smaller bass. A wet cloth rag will help with handling them, or a set of Boga grips but still be prepared to get spined occasionally. I also take an old newspaper and use a couple of pages to help with handling eels. Its cheaper and easier to dispose of than a nice clean cloth rag that will end up ruined after 1 eel
Yeah tbh I would have felt a lot more confident picking up the fish had I had a thick rag so I’m going to bring that with me on future trips. I also saw people saying to grab it behind the gills so also going to give that a go. Appreciate it.
New subscriber. Can see you are fairly new to fishing, but we all had to start somewhere. A couple of tips for mistakes that a lot of new anglers make. (1) If you buy pre made rigs in the packet, always check all the knots, as some can be poor quality. I have had rigs pull apart in my hands which will lose you tackle/fish, and can be dangerous if it happens during a cast. Make sure you pull all the knots tight. This will not be a problem when you progress into making your own rigs. (2) Watching other YT channels will help massively with bait presentation, fish handling and so on. I recommend TA Fishing, The Fish Locker, RodsAngleUK and Saltwater Angler for starters as all of them are very experienced anglers with years of knowledge, and all have amazing vids covering everything you need to know. 1 thing I would like to say, and your lovely Bass proves it perfectly, you don't always need to cast onto the horizon to catch fish. Some species will come within a few feet of a beach, if fishing 2 rods, have 1 at distance and the other you can fish at mid/short range. Hope these tips help, and tight lines. looking forward to your next vid
Thank you very much for your advice, much appreciated. I’m going to try that method of throwing one out really close and the other one far. I’ve watched all those guys vids, they’ve definitely helped me a lot, and so have you today haha so thank you again!
Another tip. When you do eventually start making your own rigs, make them so you can change them over quickly and always have another rig baited up and hanging on your tripod, so when you bring in one rig fish on or not, unclip and change get straight back out in the water, get the most out of your fishing and fish when they're feeding. By the way thats a lovely bass, nice one
Great bass you caught , nice vid too , and you didnt get a parking ticket which is another bonus ,im new to sea fishing too , we all gotta learn somewhere . liked and subbed, look forward to the next one , be lucky
Haha I’m still chasing a fish like that haven’t caught something that big in a while! And yeah don’t come across too many Londoners when I’m down fishing but makes sense, it’s quite a drive!
I only started sea fishing a year ago when the first lock down happened. I been teaching my self from videos like yours so I appreciate the effort it takes to make the videos and fish at the same time.
@@kingfisher9533 Thank you mate, yeah I’m very new to it myself so I kind of try make my videos for people who are new like me to help them learn the things I’ve recently learned
I was crying with laughter the moment you noticed the dorsal fin and shoved him in you bucket, by the way’ if you gut and clean your catch there and then your catch will remain fresh and not go stiff with rigor mortis
That's a fantastic bass. I've been at it for about 4 years and never caught one that nice from the beach. Next time you're in Hythe drop me a line, it's my local and it would be fun to chuck some baits and enjoy a Desperado or two.
Well done on getting out and getting a great bass! Keep it up, I'm Local too so make sure you let people know when your next out and you make get some people joining you
Loved this video mate. Im from birmingham so couldnt live further from the sea. But tried sea fishing 3 or 4 times now and still havent caught anything yet. Im struggling to tell if i have a bite or not, i feel like im just feeding fish so far. i dont think i will know how to handle a fish either haha. I learnt a few things from this though so im subscribing. Hoping to go to chesil beach next week and actualy catch a fish 👍🏻
Yeah that happened the first couple times I fished from the shore.. didn’t catch anything but it made the first time I actually caught feel very good haha. Good thing to do though if you want to increase your chances of catching in my opinion is join a couple fishing Facebook groups so you can see where people have actually been catching and which fish are out there. Also, another thing I do is call tackle shops that are local to the area I’m looking to fish. Sometimes they’ll say people have been catching fish non stop and which time is best to go, other times they will say nobody’s caught anything in weeks in which case I’ll call a tackle shop a little further along the coast and try a different spot. And as far as I know, as long as your line feels a little tight when it’s thrown out there you will know you’ve got a bite because the rod tip will start tugging. Don’t feel discouraged, I’ve driven to the shore plenty of times and caught absolutely nothing, that’s just fishing for you. I tend to get better luck when I fish at night though. Hope this helps and thanks a lot for the subscription, appreciate it!
@@thefishingbarrel6419 its easy to see why some people start sea fishing and then just give up but for some reason im drawn to it. Yeah when i catch that first fish im gona go mad haha. You should fish in littlehampton we get big bass here or some places of the beach we get smooth hounds. It would be cool if I could fish with you some day. By the way put the rods higher on the tripod that way the waves won’t keep on tugging your rods. But good video👍
You can go on the pier you can use small hooks to catch big eels and small baits like rag worms and black lug worm. You can just have one rod in the river with bigger baits and cast one of the rods towards the beach. There’s a fishing shop near the beach you can go on there website called littlehampton angling. Also you can go on west beach and there’s a river there make sure you don’t cast out the rods because the boats will pull your rods in so all you need to do is drop down your line near the wall of the river. I hope this helps if you want to know anything else just ask me.
