Yeah, he seemed so old to me then...it was a bit confusing. But so great for him that he found this incredible gig relatively late in a typical musicians life...
It must have been so strange for him to have been going around pretending to be a punk for the first few years of The Police when he was already in his late 30s.
One of my fav interviews from them. Stewart and Andy were speaking facts...especially about how America treats it's music and racism!! Oh and the Sting slander on here is so annoying, tired and transparent. The problem isn't him. It's you.
They are so right, that's why i stopped listening to the radio years ago and i found that i enjoy music even more, i don't think very much about genres anymore. I don't see why i can't listen to Kiss for a while and then move to Massive Attack and Sibelius or Max Richter later, it's nice to think for yourself.
In many of their interviews, when Stewart takes over, Sting just tunes out and does little distracting things (gets his camera out) to get the focus back on him. I can see why they always fought -2 huge egos. Andy just seems like a nice fella trying to keep this FAMILY together, bless him.
Sting is most happy talking about himself - it’s a theme through most of the Police interviews and gives a big clue as to how things would eventually pan out
Well, to be fair, the interviewer was asking Sting questions specific to him, so he answered him. On a side note to any fans of Robot Wars and specifically Razer, did anyone else notice how Andy Summers sort of sounds like Simon Scott from the Razer team here?
At one point he scrambled to get rid of his Geordie nose. I remember doing a lot of eye rolling when I realised that he had his nose done. Prolly to look more intellectual. Sounds like book title. The Intellectual Nose.
After Reading Andy Summer's book,it probably could be contributed to total excess of cocaine use. Cocaine apparently powered The Police, and weren't they fantastic.
What Stewart is talking about with the radio in the US was cured--for a time--by MTV. All forms of pop music in one central place. Shame it didn't last.
@@chrisbennett6260 I think it was combination of two things. MTV decided to add non music programming like The Real World and Beavis And Butthead and they became huge successes. This gave them the idea to keep trying to pump original shows until they eventually lost interest in music completely. But I also think it's one of the many, many things the Internet ruined. Once you could go online and watch any video you wanted anytime you wanted, sitting and waiting through commercial to see you favorite band seemed awfully quaint. TH-cam killed the MTV star.
imagine seeing the police at the Hammersmith Palais! It was a very important gig they played in India I didn't think they quite realised that here, meaning a rock band this size had rarely played live in India.
India had never had a rock band play there, The Police were the first, and it would become Sting's most favorite gig ever at the time because the audience had never heard of them, by the end of the night, the place was rocking, people from all over Bombay came to watch, they all had an amazing night to remember
You can tell Sting at this point is already annoyed by Stewart; they almost have a brotherly competition as to who can say the best stuff on camera....lol.
This was 1979, right, it wasn't like the US was devoid of bad music, The Cars definitely we're a great new group then. Not sure what Sting that of The Cars
After the interview, Sting pulled Copeland aside … “Shut your pie hole until you master the King’s English. I’ll cover the interviews from here on out!”
Stewart pretending to be British LOL. I love the Police but I wonder what would have happened had they gotten a taste of the Austin music scene in the mid to late 70s.
Sting, the man who would “collaborate” with Brian Adams and Rod Stewart, speaking of the sanitization of mainstream radio in 1979. And Stewart rambling on about how American whites don’t listen to black music. He spent less time in the States as an American citizen than Sting. How ridiculously out of touch. How pathetic.

Probably.
Sting seems to be in the identical outfit, so do the other members.

Some quality socio-political commentary. Don't see that much these days, when the world is running down.
