I always think about my mom when I see this video. My dad cheated on her and left her when I was 2, and I have a brother and sister that are 5-6 years older then me. The amount of energy she put in us for 10 years is CRAZY! She was always so sweet and loving, she had 2 jobs, we always had clean clothes, good freshly cooked food, presents when it was our bday, we even went even on vacation once! And the crazy part is she is so humble, she thinks she's not good at anything.. I sometimes tell her that if she put the time and energy that she put into us into something else she would be the top 1% in whatever field. But i'm happy that she put that effort into being the best mom
Your a great son for those words and she sounds alot like my ex after 25 years she moved on. Wow your father should be ashamed of himself. Sadly so many children see only sorrow when there is a bitter divorce. and if your a adult now and have had a relationship or two. You understand that there complex ..and there are two sides to every story . It's my belief that there's nobody on the planet that would leave a woman that you just described for nothing at all. let that sink in for a minute.
This song was my life 13 years ago. Single mom of 3 (around the same ages as the kids in this video). I was managing it all alone and in the middle of it my only support system (my mom) died. I'm still here, stronger than ever. 2 kids in college and one in high school. Hang in there people! It gets better!
@@brucetennyson5035 Thank you....I'm still here 9 months later. My son graduated from college and is an officer in the Navy and a daughter about to graduate from college and get married and kid in high school finding his way. The journey has been incredible.
Mom used to play this song when i was all the time as a kid and now as a grown up, I understand why.....Single parents really deserve their flowers and I hope one day I can give my mom the entire damn garden ❤️

Dear Sade, How this song and video of yours pierced through my heart. I went through the same phase in life as a single mother. I performed nightly on stage w my band to make a living and feed my 2 baby girls. One was 3 & the other one was only 6 months then. I had to bring them to my gigs coz I had no one to babysit them for me. Those times were so hard, but as a mother, you have to forget how tired you are, who you are. As a mother, you have to forget the man you loved that broke your heart & left you alone to battle life's war. And just have to keep going so the children never go hungry. I love this song of yours so much, still brings tears to my eyes. Still a strong reminder of the painful past that I survived. 💜
It got me through the most difficult time in my life, loosing my mom at age 14, being a black girl dealing with depression in early 2000s where depression was a "white" illness, even I didn't understand what I was going through but I felt that I was the king of sorrow as I had never experienced such pain and didn't believe anyone has ever went through it. I sure did pay for all my future sins in those times as now at 29 Im blessed with good health, a job, I got myself a house, which I'm very proud of as even my mom and dad never owned a house, so this is a break of a pattern and I am very happy with how I've turned out and even if I got a chance to go back and change something, I wouldn't. It was all worth it
To all single parents and all parents. Raising kids is work even with a partner. Also to everyone who lives this life an vs goes through stuff. We all feel this way and my sweet lady put those feelings into words perfectly
This song remind me those days, my Dad was a single parent, he used to take care of us ( me n my late brother) and I swear I didn't feel the gap of missing a mom. RIP DAD
This song goes so deep with me. I did not have a Mom, my Dad was a single parent in 1966. With five kids I have two older brothers and two older sisters. At times he worked three jobs...... A Marine combat vet, who would give his kids hugs, and cry with us. In a day that most moms did not do that. Miss you Dad.
The part of this video that hits me the hardest is when she returns home from the stage and simply sits to washes her kids shoes....her depiction of motherhood is EXCELLENT!
A mother's job is never done. 24/7. Saw that with my mom and now with my lady even though I give her all the help I can, she does what she feel is needed for the family. Shoutout to both single moms and ones that have significant others
I respect this Woman for decades , because She survived in her bussines without graphic content Just proving that a Woman can uphold her dignity in a rough bussines
This is one lady that when she sings, you fall in love with her music. This music video just teach's me how to respect our ladies. Absent fathers I hope they listen to the lyrics and they change their ways, I hope man will be there for their children. Let us change how woman think of us. Let us love our partners.
Dont generalise sister , there are loving men out there who cherish and appreciate women for the role they play in our lives . Your comment is like saying all women are Jezabels , dont spread this venile angry feminist movement ,representing all men as bad for the actions of a few men .
My Respect to you for saying the truth...Wow Ha-ha,is not about being man or woman but human beings,I thought I was the only one carrying with this knowledge in the 2017.God bless...
One of the best songs I've ever heard about struggle, ....with frustration,... with disillusionment, and probably with depression, and it still shows the dignity in this struggle....the honor in this stuggle, because this is the life huge numbers of us live. This is so far from the glamour of some of Sade's other songs, I like them all
I have always thought Sade is the most beautiful woman in the world. There is something about her- something that no other woman has. Her her vocals, her lyrics, her gracefulness- they pull you in (very pleasantly). She is the one singer who just takes you to another place, without you even realizing it. Her music surrounds you, and you find yourself somewhere else. I have seen her live twice- she looks just as beautiful, if not more, as she does in her videos. And she was incredibly gracious- as if it was her privilege to sing for us, not our privilege to be fortunate enough to hear her sing. Very classy.
Hi Melanie Sometimes I also think she is the prettiest woman ever. Her facial features look perfect! Her figure and the way she moves :) is soooo elegant and Lady like. At times she makes me weep ;( Very Classy, yes.
M&M I couldn't have said it better. It's something about her gaze as she looks into the camera. She has such a passionate and hypnotizing voice also. I played this song dozens of times just to look into those eyes and watch her dance on stage in that black dress at the end.
To anyone who can relate to the pain of this song, I want you to know that even though I don’t know you , I love you all from the bottom of my Heart and I hope the higher power up there makes you Happier and successful in Life! Have a Blessed day!
This song was my life when my husband left me when I was pregnant no job no any support, I was A King of sorrow but eventually I understand everything it’s a bless ❤️my children my life ❤️
Right. I seen that of her the very 1st time I heard her sing back in the 80's. I was just 21. I knew there was something special about her and still is 😄
I listen to this song now with new appreciation now that I’m a mom having to raise my son whilst trying to stay afloat getting an education keeping a roof over his head food on the table & clothes on his back with no financial help from my son’s father man, single mother hood is no joke y’all! All while trying to overcome my depression there are days when I just want to lay in bed all damn day just disconnect myself from everyone & everything but then I look over at that crib & see my baby boy sleeping & somehow I muster up the strength to get up get dressed & keep keeping on. To all you single mommies (& daddies) I take my hat off to you, single parenthood is the hardest most painful beautiful fulfilling job stay strong y’all god bless❤️
I can't take my eyes from Sade. Enchanted almost. You can't tell me there is a more beautiful human being walking this planet. On top of this her talent is unparalleled
I was around back in the 80's when Sade was around as well. She was overshadowed by Madonna, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Depeche Mode, et al. But her music is timeless. Always a class act. It wasn't about her which is why she was overshadowed. She didn't need to perform in lingerie which seemed to be the thing back in the 80's for female artists. And the songs-like this one--deep. These songs have aged like fine wine.
I don't think she was overshadowed, she's sold millions. She's not a pop star, she's in a whole other league and she's never been for all the glitz and glam so it may seem like she was overlook but she's wanted it that way. People love Sade for her music and that was always the goal.
I know the video is about being a single mother, but the lyrics are so beautifully written that pretty much anyone having a hard time holding things together can relate. That’s how I’m feeling at the moment, stressing over the uncertainty of my future. The anxiety of having to figure something out on the spot so tomorrow could be better is something I don’t wish on anyone. Peace and love to all, stay focused, motivated and healthy.
Watching my mother raising my brother and I as a single mother was one of the hardest thing I ever had to witness Happy Mother's day to all the single mothers in the world.
I feel you on that one. I came from a single parent household. My mother raised me and my sister and earlier this week she turned 84. God bless her because my father wasn't shit. Here's to strong women.
I can sit here and proudly say my mother is the strongest person I know. Single mother who had to take a lot of abuse from my dad before he passed and she raised me and my 2 brothers very well. Always giving 110% to provide and put all of us through school and instilled good morals too. We wouldn't be the men we are today without her. I feel you on that one.
+supastar And you saying that your mom appreciate it alot. The pain a woman has to take (infidelity, abuse, disrespect) just to keep her family and child afloat is one powerful thing. Because she doesn't have to take that, but women of the previous generation did for their children. And, that is beautiful. I dedicate your paragraph that you dedicated to your mom to mines because she too went through the same thing just to raise us.
My Mother February 12th, My Great Auntie February 13th, My GRAND FATHER FEBRUARY 14TH! VALENTINE'S DAY IS NOTHING!!! IT WAS A MASCAR AND JUST THAT FOR ME...LOVE YOUR LOVE ONE WHILE THEY ARE LIVING, WHEN...THEY GONE...THEY GONE... VALENTINE'S DAY WAS AREAL MASCAR KILLING... JESUS WAS BORN, APRIL 1ST NOT ON DECEMBER.... STRAIGHT FROM THE BULL CITY... DURHAM, N.C., ONE LOVE, AND THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES....AAAB
The battle cry of every working Mom. Hang in there ladies. Our babies need us & we will do everything we can for them. Our love is never ending & unconditional.
dortiz426; I firmly believe that the men (and only the men that do this) who try to run women down, control them, abuse them abandon them where they have to raise their children alone, etc., are insecure and jealous as hell or they are sociopaths! Women have a strength some men just cannot accept, heavy sigh!
One of the most beautiful songs of all time. This song plays in at least one radio station in South Africa everyday for 365 days a year. Almost always requested in all those dedication special radio shows/segments.
I think it's one of her best studio vocals. I love hearing her warm, smoky Contralto in this. Anytime l hear that dark, smoky thing contraltos do l just can't get enough
This song embodies my mother’s life so much, being widowed so young, having to take care of us, her parents and mother in law while having nobody to help around. We’re not privileged, but we’re privileged to have such a divine mum, she truly is the iron woman. This song is an ode to all single parents out there.
This song resonated with me so much when I was younger. Little did I know that one day I would be in the position of the character she’s playing. A single mother of three hustling and juggling to get through. Life is looking up for us now, but please. . . to any single mother or watching this, just know you will get through, your children love you and you’re a great parent. ❤️
"I'm crying every one's tears." That friend that listens to everyone's sad stories and problems and doesn't have any sadness or empathy left for themselves
Her music captivates my soul completely. I have to listen to this song sometimes and remember my wife, she was my Angel before she passed away. Now I feel like the King of Sorrow.
I went through a terrible depression from the late 90s to the early 2000s. It felt like she wrote this song specifically for me. This was the soundtrack for my life, word for word. It helped me fight through it and come out a better, stronger man. Thank u Sade.
oh wow! I grew up listening to her songs because of my dad. I'm 26. he played her albums every Saturday and Sunday morning! haven't stop playing her music! love her!
...been with Sade since 1984, from teenager to 50-something. Seen her and the boys perform live over four decades. Still living the journey. Still learning. Here's to more. Bless.
IF you have to ask, you already know the answer. That is why I had to dip. Now my exhusband of 10 years is living home to home and sleeping outside from what I hear. and I am taking care of our daughter solo, graduated med school and fulfilling my lifelong dream of being a doctor. Yea, life is dope. I had to let it go! love or no love. couldn't let him drag me down.
@NO Name: i disagree. we are all about choices and it is not fair that one should carry the other when we are all battling the same issues. she chose her child over an adult. i did the same and we are so much better off for it. So Jahaz you GO GIRL>
At 60 years young still the most beautiful woman I've had the pleasure of viewing.Have you notice that when commenting about this Lady the comments are always clean. Proof positive it's the way a woman carries herself. Men /women just all of a sudden become respectful beings. Its all up too the personona of his and hers view of themselves.
Here is to all these strong women in the world who raise their children as a single parent, earn a living to pay the bills, give their kids a stable and warm home, put them through college. Ladies, you are awesome and you all deserve a medal for being such strong human beings. I salute you.
For all parents, it's hard. Very true, but when you have to hold it down alone, even more so. Growing up with a divorced mother who worked 3 jobs so she wouldn't have to step foot in the welfare office, while helping her 2 oldest pay for and finish college...yeah. In some ways, being a single mother (or father) is extra hard.
You are right Jodi. Of course it's harder. How can it not be ? Another Family can also have an equally wonderful Mother but IN ADDITION to that have all the wonderful Male input as well giving emotional and practical and financial support to the family. It has to be a better family model .
SHE SHOWS HER STRENGTH BY DEMONSTRATING HOW ITS DIFFICULT TO MULTI TASK WITH SO MANY LIFE DEMANDS AND STILL SUCCEED BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY AND WITH DIVINE BEAUTY AND COMPASSION

+val ambroise I depends on your mood. I listen to this song whenever I've had one of those days or I'm ready to mellow out.I wouldn't listen to Sade driving at 55+ on the highway...
Without mothers none of us would be here. But how is it anything other than cruel and selfish, in this day and age, to bring offspring that one can't look after into the World?
Many people think sorrow is an illness needed to be cured with cheering up or something. When in actual fact, it's a valid emotion, probably more so than happiness. Depression is an entirely different thing. That's when you don't care about anyone or anything. And the world is a miserable place; lost to you. Sadness is realizing just how special the world is.. And the pain that comes from loosing an important part of it. It's beautiful. And this artist has captured that perfectly :)
Hey there Kindle, Sade...good song, very sad isn't it? How about Sade The Artist? She has to be The Prettiest Singer of all Time, probably the prettiest face on the face of this Earth. As confusing, as your comment seems to me, one thing for sure is you have good taste in Sades Poetry...If she helps to get past the emotion level, now you 'see' emotion is also just a thought, a memory, think Happy, smile, peace.
Dom Jenkins It's a very dangerous thing to do; stop someone from being sad. It inevitably ends in them become depressed if there's something wrong with it. I believe that's what happened to Nick Drake. A young man who desperately searched for sad music to connect with, but at that time there really wasn't any. Not in the 60's. So he created his own albums of solace. With numbers such as "Parasite", "Way to Blue", "Fruit Tree", "Day is Done", "Riverman" & the ever haunting "Black Eyed Dog" which is what Winston Churchill called depression. Once you hear the ending to that story, it becomes even more tragic.
***** I rather agree much of that... sadness and depression can (and do) overlap, however. It makes no sense to try to stop someone being 'sad' or down - when, quite often, being sad is a quite normal response to events or a set of circumstances.
Absolute classic. Such a beautiful sultry and talented woman. No twerking or nonsense just a soulful voice with a message of strength and overcoming struggle by doing the right thing. I miss these days.
Such a beautiful and powerful song. Thank you momma for doing the best you could. Rest in peace, you did great, and I'm OK and a momma myself now I love you. 😭😭😭 When you have to be the queen AND the king of the house for whatever reason. You never stop, always on the go, day after day. And you love your babies, would do anything for them, but still its hard. The struggle, the strife living pay check to pay check teetering on poverty. Sometimes we all feel like the king of sorrow. Bless you Sade
So glad you honored your mother this way. My kids seemed to never understand the sacrifice. They have rejected me i feel because i was poor but i asked Yahuweh to help me because i didnt know how or what i would do with little money. But Yahuweh helped me help them with prayers and he showed me in dreams and visions of them both how they would be very sucessful. Now my son is a microbiologist for the FDA never calls me. I never get to see my grandkids unless he comes to see his sister my daughter. She very successful as well. Big BEAUTIFUL home she had built from the ground up. Shes a licensed security broker for Merryl Lynch. She goes alll over the country sold her e business to people in Japan and been there 2x with her husband and daughter going again for 2020 Olympics . This not cheap. Oh sure they never come to my house i live in the same town as my daughter. Only comes so i can watch my granddaughter in the summer then they come and get her in the evenings . The Lord had told me that they have rejected Him and not me. I love t he Lord and taught them about the love that saved me. Its ok ive made peace about it, but it sure is nice to hear you honor your mom in this way even though she didnt have much you understood. God will surely bless you child be looking for it. Shalom
This song came to me right after my daughter died. It's carried me through many deaths and I am so grateful for Sade and all her talent. I really wish you would do more songs!!! My favorite singer ever!!!!

2021 anyone ? I Remember hearing this song back in Uzbekistan, I was only 10-11 years old, but I already knew SADE was special! I had no idea what she was singing, but I was VIBING!
This song helped me deal with the earth-shattering breakup of my first real relationship. "I'm crying everyone's tears" ... "I wonder if this grief will ever let me go" couldn't be more on point. The only part I disagree with is that "nothing's any good"... thank God, no matter how bad it gets I have a roof over my head and food on the table, and I have to remember to be grateful for all my blessings. Pain, sorrow, grief, loss. All part of life. But no matter how bad things get, *something* is always good.
Beauty, grace, elegance. This woman has it all. When she sings I know she's coming from a place deep in her soul. You can tell she suffered in her life.
Gaming Legend I don't know about that. I'm a single father of four and I absolutely feel everything she's saying. No disrespect to u at all. I'm just saying, give the fellas some love too.

Yes that!
As an adult in here we 30s I can now truly relate to this song even though it was resonating for me as a child. Sade is everyone’s voice 🖤
Much respect to your father. I'm so glad that you remember his sacrifices. Just remember, it was all for love.
😔
Sounds like an amazing guy.
Wow.
liked to have met him.
The part of this video that hits me the hardest is when she returns home from the stage and simply sits to washes her kids shoes....her depiction of motherhood is EXCELLENT!
My Stephanie
No hay tradición para América Latina ella
A mother's job is never done. 24/7. Saw that with my mom and now with my lady even though I give her all the help I can, she does what she feel is needed for the family. Shoutout to both single moms and ones that have significant others
🫢
I felt the same thing.
"I have 'already' paid for ALL my future sins" - deep!
💝
Nope. No one has and he'll awaits
So do I.
Exactly
That's my favorite line in this song! I think a lot of us can relate to it!
I respect this Woman for decades , because She survived in her bussines without graphic content
Just proving that a Woman can uphold her dignity in a rough bussines
❤❤❤
This is one lady that when she sings, you fall in love with her music. This music video just teach's me how to respect our ladies. Absent fathers I hope they listen to the lyrics and they change their ways, I hope man will be there for their children. Let us change how woman think of us. Let us love our partners.
Exactly bro
O bolela di waar warra .

"I have already paid for all my future sins." A lyric for all time.
it's also a line in the national anthem of my country:)

Hi Melanie
Sometimes I also think she is the prettiest woman ever.
Her facial features look perfect! Her figure and the way she moves :) is soooo elegant and Lady like.
At times she makes me weep ;(
Very Classy, yes.
+johnnyBgood Thanks- her voice brings me to tears sometimes too... I am still so amazed by her- from the first time I heard her voice.
I join you in the opinion that she is the most beautiful woman ever!
M&M I couldn't have said it better. It's something about her gaze as she looks into the camera. She has such a passionate and hypnotizing voice also. I played this song dozens of times just to look into those eyes and watch her dance on stage in that black dress at the end.
A deep soul. you can feel it just looking at her. she's not trying or pretending... thats powerful
"Will I disappoint my future if I stay?" Man, that hit hard!

she’s the greatest musician of the world and her aura is beautiful

Very Beautiful & Ethereal
Right. I seen that of her the very 1st time I heard her sing back in the 80's. I was just 21. I knew there was something special about her and still is 😄
Love her asfellow🇳🇬🇬🇧🙏🏾
when she sings - im crying everyones tears. man oh man
Every strong woman’s fate 😭
I give a lot of credit single mom that's good sis that's why I hate people make babies and just leave the woman
superwoman!
La Bambina Legazpi no kidding. Sometimes the pain is so bad but you have to chew through it and carry on your day job and daily chores.
Lets connect
Just out of curiosity, your son's father wouldn't happen to be black would he?
I can't take my eyes from Sade. Enchanted almost. You can't tell me there is a more beautiful human being walking this planet. On top of this her talent is unparalleled
I agree man, a lunar beauty, talent and melancholy.
Exactly!!
Sade for evER big lOVE❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It all adds to her beauty.
I Agree. There is nobody like Sade !!!
No Sade was always a favorite.
Exactly! Sade is in a class of her own.♥️❤️
meanwhile..prince said love is stronger than pride was the best song of the decade.
Sending you light and love
Yes I can relate. It is challenging to hold it all together just feel everyday is on repeat. It is not easy being a single mother.
Give it all to God
This video is too much - this song don't need it!

I dedicate your paragraph that you dedicated to your mom to mines because she too went through the same thing just to raise us.

dortiz426; I firmly believe that the men (and only the men that do this) who try to run women down, control them, abuse them abandon them where they have to raise their children alone, etc., are insecure and jealous as hell or they are sociopaths! One of the most beautiful songs of all time. This song plays in at least one radio station in South Africa everyday for 365 days a year. Almost always requested in all those dedication special radio shows/segments.
I Love That! Safe is my favorite artist ever along with the likes of Maxwell, Kem, Donnel Jones, Jon B and Tupac
I think it's one of her best studio vocals. I love hearing her warm, smoky Contralto in this. Anytime l hear that dark, smoky thing contraltos do l just can't get enough
I love that
This song embodies my mother’s life so much, being widowed so young, having to take care of us, her parents and mother in law while having nobody to help around. We’re not privileged, but we’re privileged to have such a divine mum, she truly is the iron woman. This song is an ode to all single parents out there.
God bless your mom❤
This song resonated with me so much when I was younger. Little did I know that one day I would be in the position of the character she’s playing.
The beauty and pain in this song.....

Been a fan since 12. I am now 38. The only artists that I have bought every album of hers released.
Been a constant fan since 1987. She hasn’t written or performed a bad song yet.

oh wow! I grew up listening to her songs because of my dad. I'm 26. he played her albums every Saturday and Sunday morning!

...been with Sade since 1984, from teenager to 50-something. Seen her and the boys perform live over four decades. Still living the journey. Still learning. Here's to more. Bless.
"Will I disappoint my future if I stay?" siiigh. so real.

Here is to all these strong women in the world who raise their children as a single parent, earn a living to pay the bills, give their kids a stable and warm home, put them through college. Ladies, you are awesome and you all deserve a medal for being such strong human beings. I salute you.
DirkjeA single or not, mothering is hard
straight jacket no but for the fact despite the hardships they provide the life for their future children is admirable
A. Smith...perhaps, but it's harder when you're single.
Sade has to be the most enchanting human being, ever!

this song is so iconic...her music still sounds so fresh to me.
I'm glad she showed the reality of motherhood
You're probably not even a mom.
Motherhood never ends. Thanks to all the mothers from time🙏❤️
yes but with a lesser neckline....
As confusing, as your comment seems to me, one thing for sure is you have good taste in Sades Poetry...If she helps to get past the emotion level, now you 'see' emotion is also just a thought, a memory, think Happy, smile, peace.
wow that was a incredible statement I always feel like that but I'm glad I found a person who was able to put it prospective for me.
Dom Jenkins
It's a very dangerous thing to do; stop someone from being sad.
Well said.
Absolute classic. Such a beautiful sultry and talented woman. No twerking or nonsense just a soulful voice with a message of strength and overcoming struggle by doing the right thing. I miss these days.

So glad you honored your mother this way. My kids seemed to never understand the sacrifice. Shalom

One of my favorite songs of all time. It always kills me. Looking back at the last 40 years, I believe Helen Folasade Adu is the most bewitching woman in the history of pop music. No one can break your heart like she does.

Love this woman for all her beauty, inside and out. A true artist.
This song never gets old. Everything about it, the lyrics...the video. Such an anthem for anyone that can relate to life's pain.
