It needs a cord of some sort to attach it to the rod so it can never be lost...The way it is now I can see it being lost very easily. Also if it is attached to the rod with a cord one can slip the butt cushion off to cast more easily and then after the cast one can slip the rod butt cushion back onto the rod. While casting the butt cushion will hang by it's cord beneath the rod. Just a nylon cord of about half a metre or even a bit less will do.
