- R.L. Stine is best known for scaring millions of children for decades with the nightmarish imagery of his Goosebumps and Fear Street franchises. In 1992, before the first Goosebumps book was published, Fear Street was already a successful horror series, but it was mainly targeted at young adults and teenagers. Goosebumps was created to target (and horrify) children. In the video above, Stine tells us how the successful Goosebumps book series was born.

I remember every kid in school used to collect goosebumps books, sort of like Pokémon cards or whatever. My reading skills were off the charts thanks to this guy. I think I read every single book when I was a kid. RL Stine had great creative story telling abilities that I haven't seen since! Pretty strange that this guy made reading books 'cool' somehow.
fuck yea man!!! I was way too poor to have more than 5...but my neighbor had A LOT...I would go over to his house every week and borrow one...I fell in love with reading because of R L Stine.

I loved Goosebumps as a kid (especially the show) and then loved Fear Street as a teen. He was such a big part of my childhood.
I'm 32 and I just purchased the entire original Goosebumps book series...so that my kids one day can relive what I lived as an immigrant child growing up in America! Thank you Mr. R.L.Stine for your wonderful stories, I learned to speak English from them!

As a kid I always thought R.L. Stine was a fictitious author acting as a pen name for a team of writers who churned out these stories. I kinda still don't believe this guy writes them all himself.

I could see in the books (Goosebumps) it’s all R.L. Stines real sense of humor , the characters are him.
My favourite parts of the books is the often twist endings they had.

Love your work and your books r.l stine. I grew up with your Goosebumps and read only one book which is the boy learn how to fly and it was good but not scary. I don't know how a person like you write so many books in a short period of time. The farther of children's horror books 📚 😊👍

The only thing I didn't like about the movies was that they omitted the TV theme. Even if it wasn't gonna be the main theme of the movie, that would have been the best way to clue in audiences that they're watching Goosebumps.
For example, that chapter in Ghost Camp where Lucy tries to force possession onto Harry. It's good scene to build up on, she talks to him, explains her situation, of course naturally like the book he doesn't want her to possess him and tries to flee. Now if that were adapted into a movie, they're would be build up, a scare and it all culminates in a scream. Then the theme song plays when Harry is hauling ass.
