I lived in Kidderminster for 19 years, i fished matches in the John Talbot era. I read a article from MatchFishing and Grant Albutt, i think it was fishing the waggler at Moorlands. I was only a club angler at the time, so i read this article about Grant, and i thought i would go to the open and ask Grant if i could sit down and watch him in the match. He said no problem, so i sat out of the way, so i did'nt bother him. he turned around to me and said you won't learn much sitting there, and he told me to sit right next to him, he won the match and i learned loads. That's the way Grant his, i got to know him well, i saw him about 5 years ago and he could'nt remember it. He's a top man.
Brilliant Podcast, well done guys that was one of the best videos I have ever watched. I have known Grant for many years and what you have watched here is how Grant is 365 days a year, every year.......Well done both.
I fish moorlands and can hand on heart say grant and his family are loverly people always make everyone welcome the fishing is great and only going to get better with all the work that’s going on all the regular lads are a good bunch the cafe and bar is brilliant 100% worth a visit if someone has never been before you will not be disappointed
Brilliant podcast. Grant Albutt, great angler, lovely man. Your point on fishing being a dying sport. Well I am a pleasure angler and worked 6 days a week so couldn’t go fishing as much as I would have liked. But we pleasure anglers are like second class citizens. I realise fisheries make their money from matches but I travelled over 60 miles one Sunday to fish Lindholme only to be told when I got there that all lakes were matched up. I have not been back. I go to my local when I can Aston Park fishery. Lovely fishery well managed and they advertise on social media what lakes are available for pleasure fishing. Excellent.
I remember fishing White Acres as a 14 year old (now 37) in a festival which our club side would go to each year. I was ok for my age and I picked up a section win on the first day. Walking back off stage I was head down nervous as I was so young and there was so many blokes drinking and having a laugh. I just didn't know what to do, on the stairs back to my seat Grant stopped me and said "head up son be proud there some top anglers here so that is a massive achievement" now I am 99.9% sure Grant wont remember this however I sat back down buzzing about what he had said. He was a big guy and a top angler and was regularly stood with the lads I looked up to and without him stopping me I would never had had the confidence to say hello. Grant calls a spade a spade, thanks for taking the time to do that all those years ago! Just got back fishing after too long off and will make the effort to get to moorlands in the near future.
Fished moorlands for the first time in 30 years, autumn last year in a club match, heard all the bad vibes about it and nearly didn't go,but I did, walked into the tackle shop, and there he was,the mighty Grant, told him my story and I was fishing bank pool, he told me what he had done to the pool, what fish was in it, what bait to use and how to fish it.didnt win but had a great day's fishing, what a guy...I will return...cheers Grant
Enjoyed that. Looking forward to visiting his fishery. Especially if accommodation is available. 🐳👍 And please, please try to get Mr. Drennan on the podcast. 👍
Fished moorlands for many years and can honestly say grant and his family are lovely and welcoming people they are doing a fantastic job with the fishery it's completely changed since they have taken over for the better 💯
What a great guy!!! This is the only video I’ve watched and have really enjoyed it!!! You can see this guy is only out to do what’s best for everyone who likes fishing and the fishery. I’m thinking about getting back into fishing I’m summer and you can be sure I’ll be paying there a visit!!! Grant Albutt good luck with what you do my guy!!!
First met Grant in the very early days of Whiteacres he was a bit if a hero of mine. Wish you the very best mate get that accommodation built let’s have a new Whiteacres run by fishermen for fishermen just like the old days.
Always loved moorlands as it was the first commercial I ever fished nearly 30 years ago. Used to sit behind grant on some of the opens and he would show you anything in his matches. Top bloke and a legendary fishery made even better now. I hope to visit again one day. Keep it up mate.
Bait limits increase the skill in fishing. Having to choose your caster shallow timing window for example rather than throw handfuls in all day requires more skill. I honestly think we are missing a trick with not having bait limits on certain baits. It’ll make it MORE exciting, more potential for skill expression (and so more content for great programs like winning ways). The more variables there are the most interesting it becomes. 🎉🎉 Enjoying the podcast so far cheers guys.
I have no issue's with Bait limits and max bait type limits. I run a small 14 member Club near Croydon and totally agree with Grant that the rules start at the visiting Club who have to be responsible in respecting the Venue's rules. Great Podcast.
Drew the peg below grant on the Thames in the knockout Cup when Neil mckinnon had 203 pnd of bream to win it,spoke with Grant after, cracking bloke and top angler
Great interview ...very interesting insight into running a fishery genuine guy who is trying his best in a very competitive market ..Good luck to him .
Absolutely brilliant the best one yet hats of to Grant for been so open and honest top bloke and totally agree with what he was saying about rules and good on him for enforcing them there there for a reason so abide by them
All the podcasts are good in their own way, different characters and all that. I live in the US now, I left England in '93. Listening to Grant talk about idiots standing around in tackle shops spreading rumors, moaning about everything, it pains me, its's the one thing I don't miss about home...Bream and Ctucians that's a different matter. Love the podcasts👍
Grant is a great bloke…fished the wilden league with him and drew next to him …. Great laugh and genuine nice guy… will be going to moorlands this year to change it up …. Absolutely brilliant podcast and very interesting listen well done guys
Live 45 mins drive away from moorlands , I just normally fish locally i am part of the Astwood bank Angling club . When I go fishing it’s normally with my children , pleasure fishing . This podcast has inspired me to come to moorlands with my family in the summer. I’m going to spend the whole day they’re looking forward to it. 😊 Thank you for this podcast was brilliant 👍👌🎣
always remember when i covered for a angler on sion farm winter league and i drew back pool and before the all in all i heard was grant blowing down his number 4 like it was a trumpet hillarious it was
I live in Gloucester and as a kid I fished the local canel. I’ve not been fishing for some years now I’m 51 I’ve been thinking of getting back in to it…. The only trouble is all the places I use to fish are now been taken over by angling clubs with no day tickets which I think is wrong!!! I don’t want to join a club I just want to go fishing in places I made so many childhood memories from!!!
Fascinating listen having a fishery owner on, like when you had Barston lakes owner on too. Being a fishery owner would be my dream job but only if I’d won the euro millions first so didn’t have the financial stress! 😬 maybe try to get a fly on the wall documentary with channel 5 or the discovery channel or Netflix to try and fund the renovation work?
I fished a match on Springvale, put my rigs on roost, knew they checked them, had a micro barbed hook on,I don't carry barbed hooks, there was an explanation for this which he didn't listen too,I didn't argue n just left, yet I know loads who buy one bag of pellets n then put them on top of their own, think I was hard done too,but a great fishery n a great podcast.
Grant I fully understand your passion. I totaly do. People have their own neashes, they will always moan, That's part of Angling, You are doing a great job. Just enjoy yourself the best you can, mostly enjoy your job. I always look at it another way, You are doing something you love.( Otherwise you will become like them because of them). I will never go to your fishery as its not in my area, Lots of honesty. I fully understand its your fishery. Some things work some things don't. I wholeheartedly wish you all the best. One day I may visit with my Mrs, in the circumstances your doing well things will get better again since covid things have been tought. Enjoy you time with your family and friends the rest is only a bit of fishing (although its your buisness).
Really interesting and honest view of a fishery owner. Hard work plays a massive part in his life and a big contingency plan to help follow his dream of the perfect fishery. Argue a point on “clicks” I fear all fisheries have clicks, it’s natural as regulars don’t like good fishermen just turn up once and win compared to those who come every week! It’s human nature
That was absolutely brilliant 👏👏 I'm just an average club angler and Grant is my kindred spirit with his beliefs 👌 Hey Monkey gift has made me blub like a baby 😭 Legendary 😍
I'd like to hear that too pal... He's not the first guy on these to elude to some sort of serious disagreement while on international duty now either is he?!
When you asked if Grant had brought a gift, I was convinced ha was gonna say ‘I’m gonna show you my willy’ 😅 Brilliant down too earth Grant, an the monkey !! WOW. Who’s gonna top that ? Awesome lads (Matt/Toby)
Thing is grant if your honest i know moorlands is a great fishery and I'm certainly not being negative Bout the fishery what so ever. But every commercial fishery is struggling and there's no money in it. I've got few friends who' own or run well stocked commercial fisheries and because its the same anglers week in week out and no new anglers or young anglers or very few coming through or starting fishing.and this must be the same for everyone. I mean let's all ask all lake owners etc to work out the average age of angler and its got to be 40-50 on average. Unfortunately most young people are now too interested in online games ps3 ps4 ps5 xboxes etc. And don't or are not guided to be outdoors either walking fishing hunting etc. I was a little fucker growing up and I mean I was a menace but found fishing and bunk school to go fishing lol it mostly kept me out of trouble. And now as an adult I do as much match fishing as possible whether it be opens of qualifiers eg golden reel etc. We need to get the next generation in to the sport otherwise 5 years from now it will be pointless and anyone who owns a fishery will end up scrapping it and selling the land or giving up the lease as won't get the money in to cover the rent/bills. Prob all fisheries have no matter how big or small you get one person whos struggled and they will say oh there's been a fish kill or owner has sold the fish even tho this is not the case , but one idiot means you get at least 5 other idiots who believe the rumours and it messes a fisheries reputation because of 1 or 2 un happy anglers. Personally I know the work thats involved its not simple and even the day to day stuff or maintenance is not quick or easy. Its proper graft and you have to keep on top of it every week. Match anglers just love moan lol its the nature of the beast. Day tickets should be at least £15 as long as the fishery has the fish for customers new anglers to get bites so they realise its value for money. Match anglers know what to expect. But you also need to ensure its affordable for the average joe especially at the moment considering how the country is putting the prices up on everything so people struggle to afford to do outdoor activities you know tackle shops have also put prices up which I agree they need to but it will not help getting new customers into the sport and at the lakes
The new generation just aint intrestead in fishing at all snowflake gen scared of everything noone in my family took me fishing as a kid i found myself always down the local pond watching people fish i begged my mum to buy me some tackle an she did and i couldnt even tie a hook but i learnt myself and reading fishing magazines me and my mate used to go into tesco and rob the floats and feeders and stuff of the front of the angling times hahah
I don't know Grant, but for him to be so defensive of his reputation and claim it's totally unfounded, then go on about his arguments, fall outs, antics, things he won't talk about, his car accident with a fellow angler in Ireland (another video), then appear all smiley/proud of the punch ups he's been involved in etc. His reputation appears well founded. Is he in denial or a changed man?
Really enjoyed this podcast more than any other like down to earth taking, fish Moorlands in the old vets national years ago,bit to far to travel now but never say never

Brilliant lad's thanks.
Fair play to Grant.. I've known him years he's a proper top bloke. Hell make Moorlands work.
What a lovely gentleman
Hi hello is Morelands fishery that Grant owns? Is it in Kidderminster? Thank you 🤩
It would be great to hear Peter Drenans' perspective on fishing .
I’ve not been to moorlands since the John Talbot days. Spinning around the fishery on his quad bike! 👀
Loved the stories about dorking and whiteacres - would have paid to see Steve Gardners face when Grant lost his top kit!!!!
I still fish with Steve at Warwick Wold near Redhill Surrey. Might remind him of it.

Does'nt make it right though.
A great podcast
When's the Bob Nudd one coming out?
Fair play grant, you're talking sense mate 👍
That was absolutely brilliant 👏👏
I'm just an average club angler and Grant is my kindred spirit with his beliefs 👌
Hey Monkey gift has made me blub like a baby 😭
Legendary 😍
been to fish at grants fishery great food great days fishing and the fish a immaculate
I’d have like grant to give his full side of the story to the England feeder team experience
I'd like to hear that too pal... He's not the first guy on these to elude to some sort of serious disagreement while on international duty now either is he?!
I would aswell like to know and I think I know reading between the lines but might be wrong.
Who’s he talking about in the England team who he doesn’t speak to anymore??
So so true so many fisheries have rules and bait limits, but don't enforce them should be random checks done every week
I'm gonna incorporate that meat idea into my carp fishing
Brilliant Podcast ! How generous was Grant to give away "Monkey "!
Great podcast, loved the insight into a fishery. Is Toby a Brummy or just picked up on the accent? 😂
I picked that up as well! 😂
Definitely noticed that when Toby was saying how nice the people there were on meadow lake 😆
When you asked if Grant had brought a gift, I was convinced ha was gonna say ‘I’m gonna show you my willy’ 😅 Brilliant down too earth Grant, an the monkey !! WOW. Who’s gonna top that ? Awesome lads (Matt/Toby)
Everyones put of by the price of tackle and rules and its hard to work your way up in the match fishing world
Get Ian Heaps on, he'll talk for ages easy interview and Jon Arthur will be interesting...... What do you Matt
grant albutt the new john talbot

Who is Grants ex partner?
Sponsored by BMW, bit of an ego but fair play to him
john talbot was a horrible man, and with grants personality and attuide, it be a top fishery again
I absolutely agree... I saw him get chucked in the lake more than once 🤣
Who was his partner who he doesn't speak to?
Just looked through comments hoping to find the answer to that myself too lol?? 🤔
Really enjoyed this podcast more than any other like down to earth taking, fish Moorlands in the old vets national years ago,bit to far to travel now but never say never
Great podcast once again, loved how honest Grant was, top bloke 👍👍🎣🎣
Google England feeder team 2014 .
Tommy pickering, I presume, as he was captain manager at the time or Adam Waklin, who was picked as his partner at the time .
All i'll say is the rumours are true, not the nicest.
