you can get a waiver on the ASVAB for this MOS, and what they dont tell you is that the method of clearing a minefield involves sticking a pole in the ground to see if there is resistance...

My father was a 1LT when he got out, but was a 12A in Germany when it was West Germany, post-'Nam. Re-mapped southern W Germany for the first time since WW2. Airborne-qualified, 9th Engineers, out of Achafeenberg (sp), W Germany. (Now we call them CEBs).
We built my folks house together - he was the "foreman" over me and paid subcontractors.
The only 12 series thing we didn't do together was explosive demo - only 8 pound sledgehammers for demo... but, he did mention to me as he aged, that when they built all the bridges up over the Rhine, that they had demo charges in them, preset to be blown in the event of the massive Russian tank invasion anticipated. Thankfully, those charges weren't needed.
Thank you to all Army COE.

Soliders in the 12B MOS should be ready for the following:
    Pointless formations
    Countless layouts
Demo ranges maybe once a year
    Being infantry's bitch
    A lot of picket pounding
And a lot of hurry up, shut the fuck up, and wait

    Here we are at misery,
    Ft Leonard Wood.
"File from the left, column left," said the Sergeant,
    We didn't know we could.
We're gonna to be Engineers, for our Uncle Sam.
So, we can fight those World War Twos, Koreas, Vietnams.
    [Chorus]
Cause we are, Mountain Movers - Mountain Movers, Castle on fire.
    Weapons and equipment and man-power.
    Yeeaah!
Nothing is too hard for us and nothing can't be done.
Just tell us where we have to go, we'll do it on the run.
    [Chorus ends]
Hey, Mr President, tell us that we can.
Fight for freedom and liberate oppressed lands.
Over hill, over dale, we hit the dusty trail.
Drive on Sergeant, you we'll never fail.
    [Chorus]
    [Cadence with marching background]
    Drill Instructor:
    Left, left, left right.
    Troops:
    Always first!
    Drill Instructor:
    Left, left, left, right.
    Troops:
    Bridge the gap!
    Drill Instructor:
    Left, left, left, right.
    Troops:
    Breech the wall!
    Drill Instructor:
    Left, left, left, right.
    Troops:
    Shoot to kill!
    [Cadence and Marching Fades]
    Drill Instructor:
    Left, left, left, right.
    Left, left, left, right.
    Left, left, left, right.

Do combat engineers like or dislike C wire ? I work building wood doors in the civilian world and I hate doors.

Believe it or not you can use black leather gloves instead of gauntlets to deal with concertina wire, if you are gentle with it. Wire gauntlets get tangled up if you yank it around.

This looks really interesting. Maybe when I finish my school, I would like to immigrate to the US maybe to be a combat engineer. But one one question is: Do I have to study engineering or will I learn it there during the training?
