    Between 1974 and 1990 I made 10 trips to Bonaire and dove with Capt Dons Aquaventure each trip. The first two trips we drove from the Bonaire Beach Hotel then all the other trips we stayed at the Habitat!
    I am amazed at the video quality the digital age has given us. Your videos are better than my memory of everything I saw on those trips. It's better than real life!
    I did get to see the reef change over the years and they look a lot better now than my last trip there in early 1990. So many people take a snapshot of the world and think it has to stay that way forever but the world changes all the time. Yes there are die offs and regrowth going on all the time that's just the way it is. Thanks for the great videos.

      We have dived their each year from 2014 to 2019, and we stayed at Captain Don’s one year as well. Last years had to be cancelled. It’s our favourite place for shore driving. You will notice allot of differences now. There is a lot of new development but you can still access most of the dive sites still. I have made a few other videos from Bonaire, but the 2019 one had the best camera!

      @@GerryGreenGoProMermaid The changes topside were what made me look for other places to dive. Bonaire was as far away from civilization you could get before the Sahara desert! Everything was primitive in those days. But it was the best adventure diving destination on the planet! I felt like I was on a real expedition when I went there.
      Do they still have a dive site named Ebos Reef? I used to dive WITH Ebo!
      Just the two of us, he thought me more about diving than anyone else I ever met.
      Thanks again for the great videos. I'm checking them all out now that I'm retired!

    The great thing about having such wonderful shore diving right off Capt Don's dock was, for me anyway, on any day that 3 boat dives weren't enough, I could always get in one more dive, right off the dock, and down to over 100 feet. And the restaurant patrons were treated nightly to the display of divers underwater lights belonging to whatever group were getting in that last dive before supper. It's the next best thing to liveaboard diving; you can stay wetter'n a lob in the pot and happier'n a clam in wet sand.

    Thank you, these feel good and bring back such wonderful memories. I only wish you could experience the technicolor version that was diving in the seventies and eighties before the bleaching and algae and overuse and warming caused so many varieties of coral to die. The living animals in your video?, film? , what ever, are still so beautiful, so again thank you.

    Thanks for replying. So in other words your saying diving Bonaire is better then Cozumel. I heard the currents can get strong there too. I can’t make up my mind where to go on my next dive trip. Lol

    • @GerryGreenGoProMermaid
      @GerryGreenGoProMermaid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carmela Padelecky if you prefer light currents then Bonaire would suit you. The dive sites with currents are towards the north and south of the island. The majority if sites in the middle are little current. They aren’t drift dives. You park the truck at the side of the beach or road, go in, swim out to the reef, do your dive then return to the same place where you parked your truck. Some dives are just a short distance to the drop off, some maybe a 7 - 10 minute swim across a sandy bottom. You need to wear dive boots. If you prefer all the dive sites can be done by boat. I actually prefer Cozumel diving though as I quite like the drift dives and the dive sites are more varied. Also depends on the season you plan to go. During the hurricane months Bonaire is better. Watch my videos from Cozumel as well as from Bonaire to help you to decide.

    can someone tell me where In bonaire this is? What location reef ect? I’m trying to pick my next dive destination. I just got back from Curaçao. I’m thinking either Belize Cozumel or Bonaire. I’m not sure what ones the best for scuba and snorkeling out of the three . Any help?

    • @GerryGreenGoProMermaid
      @GerryGreenGoProMermaid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carmela Padelecky Bonaire is a small island which is excellent for shore diving in particular, although you can also do boat dives. There are over 70 dive sites all down the calm west coast as well as the opportunity to do boat dives from the East coast. It is outside the hurricane belt which is an advantage. The majority of dives are little to no current on the west side. I haven’t dived Belize so I can’t compare it with. Bonaire. Cozumel is also excellent for diving. Most of the diving is done by boat, and the dive sites are more varied than Bonaire. Most Cozumel dives are drift dives and the currents can be quite strong, Check out my Cozumel videos on my channel!

    How are the diving conditions in October?

    • @GerryGreenGoProMermaid
      @GerryGreenGoProMermaid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent! Also Bonaire is outside the hurricane belt so you’re unlikely to be affected by hurricanes in September or October. Although having said that we did miss a couple of days diving when we got the tail end of Hurricane Matthew a few years ago!

      @@Semmmification we’ve booked to go in September but as we’ve now had to cancel 14 dive trips because of Covid we’re resigned to that one being cancelled as well!

      @@GerryGreenGoProMermaid That is some really bad news. Is it due to travel restrictions abroad in your country? I believe our travel restrictions to Bonaire could be different as Bonaire is technically a part of The Netherlands (were we live). The situations on the ABC-Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) is improving as by now the majority of the population has recieved a dose of a covid-vaccine. I hope you can visit again soon!
