The creature they discovered at the mangrove swamp appears to be some sort of giant mantis shrimp. Fully aquatic crustaceans with a few superpowers! They have boxing glove like claws that they use to punch foes, moving with the speed of a bullet when doing so. This action creates superheated air bubbles, so maybe that's why Calvin was set on fire when he was out of the water. Real life mantis shrimps could fit in a person's hand, but despite the size they are known to break aquarium glass and human fingerbones on occasion. They also have telescopic eyes that allow them to see 360 degrees I believe, and also light spectrums that humans cannot! Peacock mantis shrimps are my favourite because they're really colourful. There's another type of similar shrimp that is smaller than a mantis shrimp and only has one punchy claw that tend to cohabit with gobies. They're called pistol shrimp.
