    Most important quote for people from this video is “Season 1 is a complete game”. Keep getting tempted by this but then look at my season 1 (and my unplayed season2…). If you already have season 1/2 then do you need to drop more money on this? What other games could you purchase instead? You would be paying $150+ (including shipping) for a small addition in gameplay of your existing game…

    FINALLY a review that puts things properly into perspective. I've seen so many reviews about how awesome Cthulhu: DMD is and how I need to get every bit of everything out there. I haven't played the first couple seasons yet, but I was seriously considering going all in on the latest (via late pledge) and then going back to buy the originals as well. But as you said, I don't need it. I made the same mistake with all of CMON's other games. I went all in on Zombicide 1st and 2nd seasons, and I've played maybe 10% of it. The same with Marvel United and Marvel United X-Men. I went all in, played maybe 10% of it, and put the rest into storage. I would definitely end up doing the same here.
    Thanks to you putting things into perspective, I finally got the wakeup call I needed. I'm just going to back the core box, and between that and all the stretch goals, I'll have more than what I need to enjoy this game until the next shiny new game comes out.

    I agree with nearly everything your saying. I want to poke a few small holes in your arguments of superiority of season 1-2 campaign and season 3-4 campaign. I think that the replayability is definitely there, but the things CMON put more weight into were investigators. I said the same thing in season 1-2 that they needed less investigators and more enemies and more episodes. I would have been significantly more happy with less SGs and spacing them out more for more significant gameplay content. episodes and enemies. They are still heavily appreciated none the less. I just think that the additional replayability we now have through stretch goals in this new set of seasons and episodes is and isnt enough. 12 episodes in retail boxes and 4 new lost episodes. 3 new ways to play with GOO mix and match with a base pledege. 5 if you include the two expansion add ons. Thats where the replayability that matters comes in. I would rather we got less in SGs and more in those that matter more than a simple investigator. I mean that in the sense of how many individual special abilities could they still have that would make the character individual and special enough to stand out in which ever way they need to. On top of that those who are return backers who have all of season 1-2 can now replay all of those 12-15 episodes from the first season with new twists and turns than before. I love lost episode 2 its one of my favorites. I can now play with the unknown monsters module and tssathogua or azatoth to completely remake the experience. or even the casino episode from season 2 with Ithaqua.
    poor stretch goal management i think is an area of growth for CMON to work on. I want to see them look at the game and not just give us the easy thing. I think backers are more forgiving than that and if we voice a complaint like too much of a certain thing they will take a step back and say "okay lets make this change". C:DMD isn't zombicide where the playable characters aren't the big replayability changer here.

      The Liege perspective has no sway today. I’ve no sanity left to lose. Roll those tentacles.

    I enjoyed the honest opinion. Recently (just before the KS launched) bought DMD S1 and loving it. So I pledged S3 + the S4 addition. No other extras necessary, I think.
    I think that it's valuable to advice people to just get S1 if they are interested and pledge $1 or something, but ok.
    Some small feedback, when comparing the 2 KS-campaigns (around 6:56) it would've helped if you would've visually compared them or something - so you could easily see the comparisons and differences. You start of strong, but in the middle you've edited something in and suddenly you jump to what's included in the S2 vs S4. So I have no idea what the Unspeakable Box brought extra vs what this S3 campaign offers in stretch goals numbers. But ok - I've already backed and are happy with it - was just curious on your thoughts ^^

    Great video! I love this game. Myself along with others still are waiting to back til the last minute, probably going with the all knowing, just soo much stuff. My wife said I can’t get the bigature, she is smart. But it’s the unspeakable box that has me drooling. I have always wanted it sooo bad, but now with all the extras in this campaign, with already owning Se1 and 2, and getting se3 and 4, plus these KS extras…do I really needy 6th box of Cthulhu goodies for $140 or so? Something for me to sleep on one more night. Thanks for your input sir

  • @Indubitably14
    @Indubitably14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was VERY close but then it hit me, "why does the $100 base box lack replayability to the point where the accepted wisdom is you should buy more content?"

  • @MichaelEckl
    @MichaelEckl ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love this game. Got the retail edition of S1 and just got S2 delivered last week. Also got the 2 elders u can get in retail. But I went for the core pledge only. S4 will be cheaper in retail and the exclusives are just not worth it imo. The unspeakable box is not worth it either since I already got 1 of the elder ones it comes with.
    The core pledge with all the extras is the only deal worth it for me. 10 scenarious, 3 elder ones, 35 investigators, lots of monsters, option to use the new rules (unknown monsters) with S1 and S2. That will keep me busy for a very long time

  • @Phalanx167
    @Phalanx167 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I personally am happy to back this as someone who has kind of exhausted the old content for the most part. I find episodes are the biggest bottleneck for replayability, followed by Elder Ones, and you throw in the ability to use any monster in any mission, then this an easy back for me, despite being wary of CMON. That said I am still tempted to back at $1 and waiting to see if the shipping turns out to be outrageous, given how bad the past few campaigns have been for them.
    And yes, I will be getting an extra set of dice, as constantly passing them around kind of sucks; and I will be getting the Ithaqua since Elder Ones really do make a big difference to the feel of each game. Given that my group and I played the last two seasons 50+ times, trying all yhe content in a huge number of variations, I think it is reasonable, for me at least.

    • @flipz101
      @flipz101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to say, the extra set of dice is definitely a must back! (Don’t understand why they don’t include more in the core box?)

    Well I backed the original and by the time this new one gets released should be a 5 -6 year gap? That was plenty of time to play the original. I’m happy to do the 210$ pledge .. what I like is I can take the monster cards and relics and animals and re play it with my original game . Love the compatibility. Also all the old ones can be mixed with the old game . Really makes this a customizable sand box game .

    Just looked at another game, that eludes me now, that I seriously considered backing but fair dinkum, 65 Pounds , yes, 65 english pounds to have delivered. Surely that cannot be a fair and accurate assessment of shipping costs. Love to hear your opinion Chris. Cheers and as always, great job, great info. Don't stop.

    Do you use the plastic trays that came in the original stretch goals? Its one of the main reasons i keep thinking about that box.

    There is no reason on grabbing Season 4 on kickstarter when retail will have it cheaper and free shipping.

    • @nimblegoat
      @nimblegoat ปีที่แล้ว

      Both the core KS and retail will be good value - depending on your shipping - the SGs can be worth it

    I'll likely get Fear of the Unknown...when it goes on retail. I have no intention of backing it. Death May Die looks like a great game that's completely up my alley, but I don't want to risk getting an exorbitant shipping price dropped on my head weeks after the campaign wraps up and my money has been spent. Some of the Kickstarter exclusive items look cool (and others...not so), but if I really want to spend more money on extra content (which applies even to the "free" stuff via the increased shipping), I'll be better off just buying one of the other three "seasons" worth of material, which will give me no shortage of gameplay, monsters, and investigators. And to be honest, as good as the miniatures are, I'm just not a fan of this game's art direction. Too many of the creatures just seem to be these (almost) formless masses of tentacles that causes them all to blend in with one another, and most of the investigators look like ordinary joes that I can't get excited for little plastic statues of them. I much prefer the cleaner but more atmospheric style of the Arkham Horror family of games. Which makes it easy to hold off for now.

    This is a difficult video because you have the game in the background. I think the video should maybe steer towards what level you're backing the game at and why it's a great game for you. Teach people to be a savvy customer versus do not back and actually promote the game. I know what you're TRYING to do, but it's a bit off or confusing message. Be helpful with your knowledge on this title

    You're making a video about if you should back the sequel to a game that is in the background of almost every single board game TH-camr?

    As i play solo id love these games more if they did a standee version, everything they have made for this game would fit in one box then as well, i dont need a room full off minis.
    CDMD is so confusing now, so they have no season 3? but are releasing season 4 and at the same time they are releasing a version 2 off CDMD???
    Who would bother with season 4 instead of getting the new version.

    I ordered Season 1 abd will pledge $1. If I like it, I’ll go all-in.
    edit: Oh, I’m totally a completion-ist. If I like it, I’ll track down every little bit. (I’m part of the problem.)
    edit2: I should add that I'm not a crazy person. I maintain a relatively small collection at 20 games. And I know what I want.
