    Great video, Chris. A couple points of clarification (also in the README): instances have a shared virtual environment, so any plugin you install, or any update you do in any instance will be active in the other instances once you restart the other instances. The configuration for the plugins is independent for each instance. The template is really useful if you have a bunch of custom parameters for a plugin and you want all instances to have those parameters. I will add OctoEverywhere to the cloud plugins with the next set of updates!

      Thanks for the vid and thanks paul for the script this is really helpful. Octoeverywhere is already added,great. One problem I have tho, when using api for cura it connects to octoprint, but when I press print from octoprint it asks for a path and then gives an error (that it can't connect). Any idea how to solve it?

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@studywithme8055 Interesting, I'm not sure how Cura does this. Maybe it''s not uploading the whole file and octoprint is getting confused.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisRiley I have a similar issue, I believe it's the API in general, did a fresh install of Octopi 1.0.0 created three instances through your tutorial using the scrip. None of the API work, on any of the instances, Applications API, User API, none of them work. I've tried them on one of my Otocprint monitors, Printoid App, etc.
      I'm not sure if the problem is on Octopi 1.0.0 or on the instances with this script.
      When rolling back to my previous image with previous Optopi version and the manual process to create the instances from your older video (without the script) API connectivity works just fine.

    Thanks very much for this guys. I had 3 printers running on 3 Pi's now they work perfectly well on just one PI. I use PSU Control plugin and that works perfectly for each individual printer I just had to change the GPIO pin for two of them as they all used the same pin previously. I had to do the same with the "Filament Sensor Reloaded" Plugin I use but it only took seconds to configure and each configuration works separately for each printer. I now have 2 spare PI 3B+ thanks to you both.

    Great video as always. It really is a great script and it is what I used after wasting too much time manaully installing multiple instances on a minipc. After moving on to klipper one of the things I really enjoy about Mainsail is the ability to access all my printers in a single tab. It seems minor but it really makes managing multiple printers easier and it's something I feel Octoprint or a plugin should add in.

    Thanks Chris for the helpful info! Question: I have two MK3S+ machines, one is and has been running a pi4b on octoprint with octoeverywhere for some months and it's great. The second machine came with another pi4b. Is it possible, or even preferable to have dedicated pi4b for each printer respectfully, or is it better to have multiple printers connected and running off of one pi4b the way you have highlighted it in this video? Thanks in advance from a big fan of your vids. Cheers!

    Hi Chris. I hope you can advise one more thing (maybe two ;P ):
    - I want to run multiple printers (at least 3) on my raspberry and thanks to your video now I know how to set it up but...
    - So far I've been working on my Ender3 V2 via Klipper with Mainsail, Fluidd and Moonraker... Can I use your method without reinstalling the whole system with these add-ons?
    - Have you tried to use (or maybe you have a configuration file) Green Tevo Tarantula Pro with original motherboard and TCM2208 stepsticks? I used to use it with a marlin, but it's more convenient to use a Klipper on it...
    Any advice/help would be appreciated

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With Klipper it's really hard to mix octoprint with mainsail and fluidd. The KIAUH install will get them all setup, but you have to do it as a fresh install I'm afraid. The script doesn't like it when you try to go back and add instances. www.obico.io/blog/install-klipper-with-kiauh/

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for the great tutorial, as efficient as ever :)
    I have a problem that you may have a solution for.
    I've searched in the comments and on the net, but to no avail.
    I followed your tutorial to set up two cameras, a C170 and a "nor tech" full HD (from action - 9$).
    After a few manipulations, everything worked perfectly.
    Given the quality of the nor tec camera, I decided to get a second one and replace the aging logitech.
    The problem is that both cameras are strictly identical and have the same id:
    usb-Jieli_Technology_USB_PHY_2.0-video-index0
    so when I do a "ls /dev/v4l/by-id" I only get these two lines:
    usb-Jieli_Technology_USB_PHY_2.0-video-index0
    usb-Jieli_Technology_USB_PHY_2.0-video-index1
    I tried a counter method with "ls /dev/v4l/by-path".
    platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.2:1.0-video-index0
    platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.2:1.0-video-index1
    platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.3:1.0-video-index0
    platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.3:1.0-video-index1
    I can see my two cameras
    I configured my conf files like this:
    octopi.txt
    camera="usb
    camera_usb_options="-r 1920x1080 -f 10 /dev/v4l/by-path/platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.2:1.0-video-index0"
    #camera_http_webroot="./www-octopi"
    #camera_http_options="-n"
    webcam2.txt
    camera="usb"
    camera_usb_options="-r 1920x1080 -f 10 /dev/v4l/by-path/platform-fd500000.pcie-pci-0000:01:00.0-usb-0:1.3:1.0-video-index0"
    #camera_http_webroot="./www-octopi"
    camera_http_options="-n -p 8081"
    But I can't get both cameras to work in octoprint :/.
    I don't seem to have loaded the webcam2.txt config (systemctl status webcamd)
    If you have an idea that comes to mind, on the problem I'm a taker.
    Have a nice day

      Thanks for watching! Huh, you are using this method with Paul's script? Maybe try pulling it down from github again, maybe it's a bug.

      Yes using Paul’s script… I get the error when making new instances but I realize that everything works just fine… I didn’t I even try to log into the instance before I commented lol I was too quick.. appreciate your response. Working on custom start and end GCode for my ender 3 farm right now!

      Hopefully I can catch you now… there something called FDM Monster, it’s like octofarm ! Would be a GREAT tutorial right now as octofarm doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.

      Make sure you have the url correct, it should be this. git clone github.com/paukstelis/octoprint_deploy.git

    Thank you for making this video. I was able to follow along and now I have everything set up and working! The only part I had trouble with is that if I used the IP port of the instance where my cam was set up the cam wouldn't show. Fix was to drop the port number and use the instance name. ex: 192.168.x.x/MyInstanceName. I used a spare OptiPlex 3040 micro running ubuntu server. Overkill, but I can now re-use the Pi I had for running just one of my printers for something else.

      Awesome, glad you got it sorted and it worked for you. Paul's script is the best.

    is this still valid for the new OctoPi 1.0.0 ??? or is there a better way to have two printers on a single Raspberry Pi? Thanks Chris

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I think this is still the best way to get multiples running.

    Hello, I can't connect my Anycubic I3 Mega S via USB, it can't find it. Do you have any tips on how it could work?

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could be a bad USB port. Will it connect to your PC using something like Pronterface? www.pronterface.com/

  • @joelstitch
    @joelstitch 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    No matter what I do I cannot get more than 1 printer to connect. At first both wouldn't connect, then I connected the first one to /tmp/printer, disconnected and then connected to its /dev/ location then it connected but the second printer just wont connect. Ive tried multiple fresh installs of the whole system and followed the directions to the T but just wont connect. I re flashed the printers and that did nothing neither.

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What printers do you have? Does the auto detect process find both printers?

      @@ChrisRiley I have 2 Ender 3 Pro. But I didn't realized this did not work with Klipper so I went with the Kiauh app and got it working.

    Despite all the kudos in the comments, I didn't get past square one on my Mac. Putty is a windows program even though your intro says your skipping Windows.

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The install is being done on Linux, from Windows via putty. You would want to install this on Linux, from mac using Terminal.

      @@ChrisRiley Yah, I just avoided the whole issue by setting up two "instances" ((I guess that's the word?) of Octoprint as separate bookmarks in Safari, one is on my local network as OCTOPI.LOCAL and the other as OCTOPO.LOCAL. I had two raspberry pi b+ already so no need for the economy of running two printers off one pi. I can swap from one printer to the other with a click of the bookmark icon (appropriately labeled with the printer name in BOLD LETTERS.). Thanks!

    Hi Chris,
    I am strugeling a lot with this. This video does not represent the things I see on my putty-screen
    First I got octoprint_deploy 1.0.4 in stead of version 0.2.3
    And during the "prepare_system" the following annoying warnings appear
    Adding group `uuidd' (GID 116) ...
    Done.
    Warning: The home dir /run/uuidd you specified can't be accessed: No such file or directory
    Adding system user `uuidd' (UID 111) ...
    Adding new user `uuidd' (UID 111) with group `uuidd' ...
    Not creating home directory `/run/uuidd'.
    Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/uuidd.socket → /lib/systemd/system/uuidd.socket.
    uuidd.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
    And when the preperation is done , there is no menu to choose from. I am asked to autodetect the first printer!
    Also when I try to add a USB-camera the following is coming up:
    mv: cannot stat '/home/pi/octoprint_deploy/cam_octoprint.service': No such file or directory
    Instance must be restarted for settings to take effect. Restart now? [y/n]: y
    Failed to start cam_octoprint.service: Unit cam_octoprint.service not found.
    Failed to enable unit: Unit file cam_octoprint.service does not exist.
    Because I am an newby with linux and Pi's . . . how do I get octoprint_deploy 0.2.3 in stead of 1.0.4? Than I can follow your video for a succesful multiple instance of octoprint on my Pi

      The older version might not work on the new versions of Octoprint, that's probably why it was changed. It's probably a small bug. Leave an issue over on github, Paul should be able to help. github.com/paukstelis/octoprint_deploy/issues
