    Enjoyed the video, thanks for posting Shawn. I have done a bit of diving, mainly in Indonesia. Diving in that part of the world is great as the water is warm and normally clear as opposed to around the UK where it is distinctly 🥶. One of my favourite dives of all time was in to the wreck of the USS Liberty in Bali. We went inside at night as well, that was a bit scary fortunately we had a very experienced guide.

    Shawn, Bring it on. It was a niece change of pace. I grew up on the east coast of New Jersey with the Atlantic ocean on my doorstep. The fishing business. My father used to take divers out and they would go to fishing wrecks and bring back lobsters. Occasionally they would see a whale but not very often. BTW, shark tastes like scallops. Thanks for sharing.Ken

    Very cool, didnt know you were into diving (have not looked at other channel) Thats a lot of bait fish & that Jelly was a little too close for comfort, my brother got tangled up with a man-o-war when he was about 7 and he paid the price of pain for weeks after that. The yellow colored Angel i believe it was, took the 'cameo from the Eel. Great stuff...Just brings the realization of history with things like this.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was a queen angelfish. They're one of the most beautiful fish on reefs. We don't see them too often this far north in the Atlantic.

    What an interesting video Shawn. Despite the murky conditions the footage came out really well. I wonder what secrets are still within the wreck? Maybe even an Enigma machine? I’m pleased to hear though that it’s respected as a war grave. The Moray and yellow fish really shone in the light from your torch, and the Barracuda looked menacing! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. 👍🏻

    I enjoyed that, keepem coming, flew my drone last month off my boat at sea, smooth seas but big swell, very tense moments launching and recovery, every time the swell would come the drone would surge up finally had to force land, tried to hand catch it didn’t work, won’t do that again😱

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same Robert. The boat was moving and the drone didn't like that... it takes a few seconds for the force landing and the boat would move by then. It was scary!

    Good for the USCG for taking it to the Nazi's on this sub. The Icarus, a 165-foot USCG Cutter, depth charged it until it surfaced. Once it surfaced, they noticed the crew coming out of the conning tower so they opened up on them with the heavy machine guns. They Icarus left the scene and came back an hour later to rescue the 33 that survived. Can't imagine how gnarly things got right off the cost of NC during WWII.

    Steering Committee here! A few points to note for this type of video, Shawn.
    Point 1: personally, I really enjoy documentaries and this had that kind of a vibe to it.
    Point 2: anything that shows a shark is OK by me.
    Point 3: I really enjoy your style of videos. You are interesting to listen to and have calm, peaceful attitude about you.
    Point 4: when are you putting up another dive video? This one was really interesting. 😊
    PS...I only found out recently that Moray Eels have a secondary jaw inside their mouth/thoat and I thought that was awesome and scary at the same time. Beautiful creatures too.

      Thank you for the points Tracy! I have been on NC wrecks with lots of sharks but didn't see any that weekend. I have some footage of sand tiger sharks getting pretty close. So cool! • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was Oct 2, 2021 and I everyone was wearing a 3 or 5mm suit. I started out with a 0.5mm dive skin but went with a rash guard at the end. The water temp was 77F and a little chilly after a dive with no suite. This viz is pretty typical of NC. It's decent but not great. Man, I wish I had taken the camera back in Aug when I was on the Sub.

      @@GCFD I can't remember. I lived in AB/PKS/Newport/Havelock in the 80's up to the early 2000's. I was a poor surfer for most of the time and didn't have money to eat out other than fast food. 😆

    Good alternative video for your channel. Still don't know how you divers deal with the pressure, 10ft kills my head. Be safe, good luck.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex the pressure change is the worst from 0 -10 feet. I start clearing my ears at 1 foot. If you can get past 10 feet it's not a problem.

    the only problem with wreck dives is the short bottom time because of the depth....so much to see, so little time!

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob, one of the guys in our group has a couple different re-breathers and he claims to have hours of bottom time. I'm just not there yet with relying on technology to filter out a tasteless, odorless, deadly toxin (CO2) for you.

    Shawn,
    This owner’s foundation is clearly a lost cause. There just isn’t any slope from the foundation out to the driveway, and the pipes that were installed look rusted out and look well over 80 years old! Nice attempt and certainly made for a lot of entertainment, but might want to pack this one up and quit before part 2.
    Edit: disregard, someone already beat me to this😂
