This project started with Harry Belafonte suggesting a concert to help with the famine in Ethiopia. It was scaled back to this amazing studio recording. The song was originally to be written by Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder. But Stevie was working on an album and the manager suggested the writing be done by Richie and MJ. It was Quincy Jones who rounded up the talent. It was recorded after the American Music Awards and they were changing lyrics throughout the rehearsal. They put a sign on the door sa.ying "Leave your egos at the door." This became the #1 selling single for 1985. I love Michael Jackson, and he did a great job, but he can't be given sole credit for everything. We have Harry Belafonte to thank for this.

MJ all day every day. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 love that you smiled at the part when Michael came in. That's the affect Michael and only Michael can give you and let you feel! Joy and happiness!!!
Michael wrote the song. Lionel only added a line for which Michael credited him for. Of course a lyrical masterpiece with a deep message behind it by Michael himself. Who else could write them lyrics? This was Michaels message. " I don't sing it if I don't mean it " - Michael Jackson.
I talked to my 15y/o brother yesterday about his fame. He said he'd love to be as famous as him. I've told him MANY stories of how they humiliated, falsely accused, tortured him and how he exactly died. How he lived and in what fear and danger he lived in. After that he said he'd never want be as famous as him and that he feel sorry for him. Rest in Peace to the most humble soul in history Michael Jackson!

Where did you get this information? Because I can't find anything anywhere that says Lionel Richie only wrote a line. LaToya Jackson thought Michael might have written "most of" the lyrics, but "most of" is a long way from "only a line." I understand that you love Michael, but he isn't solely responsible for this song.

  • @sopdox
    @sopdox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

The idea for doing this came from Harry Belafonte, who is one of the chorus singers. MJ and Lionel Richie wrote the song. Quincy Jones produced it and is conducting in the video. They got as many people as they could after the American Music Awards to come in and record. Most hadn’t heard the song until that day. The one person they asked to join and didn’t was Prince.

The man standing by Harry Belafonte is comic actor Dan Ackroyd. Dan was one of the early SNL cast members. And an awesome musician as well. He was half of SNL music/comedy duo the Blues Brothers with John Belushi. And in the middle of it all is 60's voice of his generation and counter-culture icon, Bob Dylan. FYI - his son Jakob Dylan fronted 90's singing sensation group The Wallflowers. Michael Jackson wrote this song and it was produced by Quincy Jones. Like others in the day, I counted down the days to watch it's debut on MTV or VH1. I don't remember which one. The pairing of Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen was genius. Their voices contrasted beautifully.

I don't think he could have done anything else with his life. But everybody wanted to be LIKE Michael. But nobody wanted to BE Michael Jackson because he paid a HIGH price to be who he was!!!

This wasn't done by Michael Jackson nor was it originally performed by him. This event was put together by Harry Belafonte, who was not only a singing legend himself but a huge activist. He and Quincy Jones planned it and produced it. They assigned the writing of the song to Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson. This song was only ever performed by the Super Group "USA for Africa" and all of the proceeds went to the African famine victims. The "dude" who's voice you liked is Bruce "The Boss" Springstein. another legendary voice that you should know.

How the song We Are The World came about.
    DEC 84
Bob Geldolf and Midge Ure got British Artist together to record in the studio
Do They Know its Xmas single for the plight of Ethiopia as it had suffered the worst drought and famine ever.
Bob and Midge came up with the idea.
Hense asking USA to get involved
Hense We are the World was recorded March 85 same way as the British Artist did, they met up and recorded it same day.
This song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie
Quincy Jones who produced this at the front directing got everyone together.
Bob Geldolf and Midge then organised the best concert ever on the British side in a joint venture on the American side.
    Hense
    13th July 85
    Live Aid Concert for Africa.
This concert was view all over the world.
My opinion The best Concert put together and collaboration ever put together.
I know I had a very sore head next day.
My singing was really bad and of course I only had 1 drink that I am admitting to.
Some of the artist involved in the songs.
Quincy Jones, Lionel Ritchie, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Kenny logging, Al Jarreau, Steve Perry of Journey, Diana Ross, Whitney s aunt Dione Warwick, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Kenny Rodgers, Bob Dylan and I can't remember the rest
    🇬🇧🇺🇸

Thinking about what the world put Michael Jackson through, burns my soul. It’s true that money doesn’t buy happiness… and I would submit that his opulent wealth + even MORE opulent heart, made him vulnerable to opportunistic pieces of shit people.
Healthy people don’t alter their appearances to the extent that he did…. But apparently he found surgeons who were unethical enough to prioritize their bank accounts over their Hippocratic oath…. and instead of concern from the public he endured possibly the worst cyber- and media bullying in the history of telecommunications.
Don’t even get me started on what he was accused of. I’ll just say that I believe the jury got it right…. but I also believe the court of public opinion handed down a death sentence.
And his death…. Every ICU and OR nurse on the planet knows YOU DON’T GIVE PROPOFOL TO ANYONE NOT ON A VENTILATOR…. But he had a physician giving it in his HOME?? The one consolation is that his death was probably very peaceful. 😢
Rant over… I’ve fallen down this rabbit hole of We Are the World reactions, and seeing this once-in-creation masterpiece, created by this once-in-creation master.. and I’m emotional. 😭
