This was beautiful and enlightening, thank you so much for this amazing video. I have made stuff (art?) where the subject of a joke was someone else or some group or idea. It was ego-driven and bitter, where I wanted to be heard and seen rather than my art. I was hostile towards myself so I would focus on others. But it's really a lot more clever if you can make work that is universal by paradoxically stepping into the picture yourself. There is amazing lack of self reflection in this modern society, where introvertedness is looked down upon and not rewarded. That is why we rarely venture inside where we may meet this "cosmic man" (or woman) inside of ourselves. To me, this showed me who we are as a species rather than just "me and them". It showed me that though we are unique, there is this essence called "being human" that connects us all - we all suffer pain and feel joy. There is a universal story wanting to be told, it's not just that I as an artist should attack the world or like Cécile says: "hold a mirror up". It's rather that through self-reflection you get to know others as well, what they want and need - because you see it in yourself. I thought this interview was very lucid and interesting, it made me think and it was inspiring. This is because it was not just some artist proclaiming some truths (opinions), it was actual philosophy at its best. Thanks so much for the video Louisiana Channel and much love to Cécile.
