Good diagnoses Max I do the same check the basic first and brake it down into small sections so you are not running off in a load of different directions. The g scan looks good I have an Autel Ds 808 they look a lot similar in there software.

      Hey Ian,
Diagnosis is a logical step by step process as you said. Unfortunately, flow charts limit 'out of the box' thinking and can direct you off in the wrong direction.
That's why I like to find out why something happened - what caused it. It puts my mind at rest and also makes sure it doesn't happen again. As far as I am concerned its a win for me because I have learned something new and added to my skill set and its a win for the customer since they have someone who actually cares about their vehicle and them.
I am learning so much with the new GScan and the students at the college are getting someone who has current knowledge and skills.
There are a lot of good scan tools out there, but as I'm sure you will agree, none will do everything you need them to do. Sometimes we need to leave the specialised ones to others that have the necessary equipment.
Thanks for your comments, it was good to hear from you!

@@MiracleMAX exactly I like to try and sort the job right the first time round instead of guessing and throw parts at it for fun you get the thrust of the costumer the diagnoses mite take longer in a few circumstance but it saves money in the long term. There are a lot of cowboys out there that are dragging the industry down .But hey you have to keep on working and get the confidence back from the consumer that there are guys like us that try two do it right . Cheers Max.

I had all the same issues as u found…I can’t seem to stop air bubbles in the line it’s driving me mad…does the EDC light need to be reset tho ? Or will it reset once the air is out the system ?

      Hey Mat,
These Mercs are notorious for air leaks, especially when they get older. Unfortunately, you will have to chase where the leak is coming from. I suggest you try and disconnect the lines back to the tank, block each line, either blow or use low pressure air and then spray with soapy water to find the leak. If I remember correctly, the lines go all the way back to the tank. It could be 'o'ring fittings onto the pump or along the fuel line somewhere, but look for age cracks or damage as well.
I hope you can find it!
I suggest you clear all fault codes when the repair has been completed.

    Max.
I have the exact same 2003 Sprinter. Have it 4 years.
Starts up no problem even after ridiculously long spells in Cold, damp crappy weather
Over the years, once in blue moon it could cut dead on the road,
some times EDC light on sometimes not. Could turn it over while rolling and away again for another 1000 miles.
Recently started to cut out more often and no immediate start.
Could run perfectly for 10 min or have it run for two hours and then either just bang stop or sometimes laboring for a bit, like fuel or air starvation. (have found if its left a while it will fire up again)
    I have fitted
    1. new fuel filter
    2. clear feed hose.
    3. clear in line mini filter.
all to monitor for lack of fuel.
No sign of lack of fuel ever however I have noticed a little feed of air bubbles coming from the tank through through the in line filter to the main filter (had thought this would be normal???)
Any opinions or prayers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Hey Ray,
Have you carried out a full system scan? If so, what codes are present?
Does it show any air in the system at higher RPM, like shown in the video?

Did you solve it? Same thing on my 2.7 , with mine it isn’t boosting properly and I changed the fuel filter to see if it made a difference, it didn’t, I noticed that when I pressed on the clear pipe coming from tank to filter I could see air bubbles! It might be a problem with the pipe fitting at the tank end🤔 it starts easily but won’t rev over 3000 rpm , turbo is good, actuator is good and I’ve changed boost control valve under airbox😅

I've got the annoying edc light on aswell changed fuel filter, edc light comes on after a few mins of driving usually and stays on still runs but randomly get surges of speed randomly dropping from like 40 down to 35, I issue I notice is the high pressure pump has a slow dripping leak when first start on cold sometimes once warm no leak can this be enough to cause this issue still drives everywhere, doesn't cut out but gets the drop in speed like its starving of fuel, first thing I'm going to check is that same hose & air bubbles in that clear pipe

    • @MiracleMAX

Any sort of leak will change the rail pressure and in turn, the output of the engine. Things to consider. How many kilometres has the vehicle done? Are there air bubbles in the line? Is the actual and desired rail pressure equal? Do you have hard starting? Are there any fault codes?

Hey mate, great video. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I suspect a similar problem with mine, except mine stopped and won't restart. It will turn over, and then almost immediately stop (Less than 5 seconds) I tried replacing the fuel filter, but it didn't solve the problem. It is stored about 2hrs away from my place, but I'm hoping to get out to it this weekend to go over a few things and hopefully get it back on the road.
Anyway thanks again for this. Definitely a great resource!
