My dear Sylvia was the main reason I started watching the show back in the 90s...my happiest times are when she comes up in a Nanny episode!! Renee is just magical
Family is about love, not DNA tests. It was so lovely to see Fran’s “fake” mom show her so much compassion and kindness even though they turned out not to be related. :) And of course, that raisin kugel helped! :p
@Logia SD I think the episode "Immaculate Concepion" proves Fran's true good nature. When it turns out that Maxwell's father is leaving his entire estate to a love child named Concepion no one knew about, all of the Sheffields, plus Sylvia, are upset about losing the money and call her cruel names, but Fran tries to remind them that they shouldn't be selfish. Sylvia forces Fran to go to Concepion and try to get the inheritance, but Fran instead recognizes that Concepion had a really difficult life and treats her with kindness and respect instead. Fran truly sees the good in EVERYONE, rich or poor. :D I think we should all be a little more like Fran (it would certainly help me with my fashion sense!).
@N why? I do not think that is the case, and I speak from my experience as a gay man. Thankfully, my own family was extremely accepting and loving when I came out, but oh, there are so many stories...parents who turn their own children out of the house, siblings who act like they're not related...I have a friend who's been happily married for eight years, and his parents absolutely refuse to meet his husband just because he's a man. DNA can be important, but it's no guarantee of unconditional love. To anyone watching this video who feels distanced or exiled by their own family--I hope that you will find a true family of love someday! :D
I never saw that episode, but I love it. I’m glad they “went there” in a funny and respectful way. This show doesn’t get enough credit for being ahead of its time.
I love how Sylvia always turns the situation into her own favor! (she says the fake mother can't be Fran's mother because she's black and at the end, that doctors make mistakes...) 🤣🤣
@@cristianfernandezrodriguez9077 yeah she was also on gimme me a break. That's why the audience clapped her. She was known for those things when she came on the nanny.

Her "birth" mother explains that she and her DAUGHTER were the ones who found out and had been devastated. The sister doesn't live with the two brothers and their mother.
@Martin B I wondered the same thing. Evidently the Mom had her DNA checked and wasn't a match. Not enough time for that subplot. I guess that's why they call it "The Nanny".
This was loosely inspired by the Dick Van Dyke episode that got the biggest laughs. The title was "That's My Boy?", and was the first episode of Season 3.

Her voice alone 🤣
By far my favourite character in the whole show. She reminds me of my own mother so very much - hyper materialistic and food obsessed.
Gotta love Sylvia! I love how she nearly lost it in the episode "Call Me Fran." "Franny, your father did this! Why are you punishing me??!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
