GXV. Amazing voice. True power singer. Never heard another like him.

This song is one of the best of that era. Such a rimless message, needed as much today as ever.
Sometimes I forget just how good this album is. Got it on cassette when it came out, and played it so much the tape broke. Spent a couple hours unrolling it and gluing it together - yes, a couple songs had 5 seconds of wobble, but that’s how much I loved the whole album.

I just found this video last week and have listened to it many times since. GXV's ministry has been such a treasure to the church for decades. I know his talents have been a supreme blessing to me.... Someday He's gonna hear Him say "Well done"

Greg sang this song today during a chapel service at my university. It was spot on and just as good as this version. Freaking Awesome!

guys, if you ever went to any of his solo concerts (which i did, at least 4 of them) he would tell you why he left--he wanted to be at home with his family, they were touring constantly and his kids were growing up. Your right about his singing, hes the best!!!

It's certainly tough to be in a band.
He also said that he had an agreement to write and do music with an old friend which he did on his first sensational album.
Not everyone can stand the rigors of the road.

@perkman1967 I couldn't agree more. I was lucky enough to get big into Petra when the Beat The System release came out and I saw them on that tour. Hands down, to me, Greg Volz and Petra were made for each other. Nothing against the guy who replaced him (John since we was good also) but Greg sang on the majority of the Petra classics we all know and love (Coloring Song, Judas Kiss, etc etc)

The video editor should have used more scenes with the attire Greg X. Volz was wearing at that time marker so it'd look like it was filmed seperately from 2 different concert performances, but with the same song.

I hear you. Many singers & believers are lame, shallow, hyped up, posers or hypocrites. But man, when you see the genuine article, who reflects Jesus-- you gotta think about Him... I hope I am...

There's an infinity of things we don't "know". That's why it's called faith.
    Where do you place yours?

Shame Volz left Petra. Never liked much of his solo stuff. Bob Hartman was a great song writer. Volz left Petra right when they were getting ready to explode. Petra was good with John (new lead singer) but they were great with Volz. Can you imagine all those post Petra albums with Volz on lead! Makes me cry little.

  • @Looking1231
    @Looking1231 14 ปีที่แล้ว

@perkman1967 Never heard that but who knows? You would think that if that was the case that Greg could have done that during a break from recording or touring with Petra ala what Phil Collins and Genesis had going on.

@Looking1231 Back in the day I heard he promised a friend he would make records with him and he was just keeping his promise. But I'm not sure if this is true?? Just what I remember.

  • @Looking1231

Anyone know for sure why Greg left Petra? I heard that he and Bob were butting heads a lot and depending on who you believe that Greg either quit the band or was asked to leave after the Beat The System tour was over. At least Greg and the band were able to patch things up to do Petra's final concert together even if it was for only a few songs if that.

There are always disagreements between artists but it was more about Greg's home life suffering and his desire to do other things, work with other people. God generously provided a new singer in John Schlitt and Greg went on to release some amazing solo work.
      God wins.

The question I have is. What really is going to happen?
    The question I have is
What really is going to happen?
When the great book is opened and each one stands facing his record.
    What then? What then?
When the great factories of our cities, have turned out their last finished work.
When the merchants have sold their last yard of goods, and fired their last tired clerk.
When our banks have raked in their last dollar, and paid their last dividend.
When the judge of the earth says closed for the night and asks for the balance.
    What then?
    What then?
When the choir has sung its last anthem and the preacher has made his last prayer.
When the people have heard their last sermon and the sound of it has died out on the air.
When the Bible lies closed on the altar and the pews are all empty of men.
When the trumpet of the ages is sounded and the great book is opened.
What then? Can you tell me?
    What then? What then?
And when life seems so absurd, there's still a world that can be heard just be still and know, and then.
When the actors have played their last drama and the mimic has made his last fall.
When the film has flashed its last picture and the billboard displayed its last run.
When the crowd seeking pleasure have all vanished and gone out in the darkness again.
When trumpet of the ages is sounded and the great book is opened.
    What then? What then?
    What then?
Can you tell me, what then?
    I'm askin'. What then?
    What's gonna happen?
    What's gonna happen then?
    What then? What then?
When the great book is opened. What then?
And we stand before him. What then?
And we're asked for a reason. What then?
And the trumpet of the ages has sounded, sounded, sounded. What then?
    What then?

hi Greg. can u make sure that the lyrics 2 this song is accurate. please take control of things. do not let the world produce mistakes such as these. this song is probably my chosen best song after 'the grave robber' which u did sung. if i could request that u played the lyrics with the film clipse. u only need 2 not pick up a small fraction of any song n u would loose much of the understanding or the grasp of what the song is about.
