Loved this program and this is an episode favorite. Wish you would run it again in syndication. One of the very few where the quality writing drew us into the characters. We cried and laughed with them. I still remember how each person's life evolved as time went along. Thank you for posting these here!
Great comment! That's exactly what I just wrote in the Comments on the Pilot Episode. The comments there were not nice at all, saying how boring this show was. I couldn't believe it! My husband and I never missed St. Elsewhere. It was our very favorite! The character development was so amazing. Week by week they evolved into friends you really cared about. And you're so right; we laughed with them and we cried with them. They became like family to us. We absolutely LOVED this show!
One of the best episodes in television history. Doris Roberts and James Cocco show that they are powerful forces to be reckoned with. Never mind the rest of the cast. This was one of those episodes that made what should have been just another hospital show something amazing.
This show pulled at human heartstrings...this episode was unforgettable, because it highlighted the cost of medicine at the time vs. it's lowest economically deprived victims who needed it.

So many things have changed in medicine since those days. Equipment, testing protocols, paper charts, nurses who still looked like nurses not housekeeping staff and yes even corded phones. But so many things haven't . Dr.s who honestly care and others who don't, surgeons with attitude still remain. Difficult patients, so many sad stories, some happy ones. The cost of medical care is still a problem. Without insurance your surely in the financial dog house for years to come. All in all its a good thing bad thing. So many improvements to be made. Important ones, vital ones. Definitely time to pray folks before it all comes undone..🌄. (Retired Nurse)

The storyline with the homeless couple reminds me of “Call the Midwife”
This episode was especially tear-jerking cause my mom's name was Cora who had a history of foot problems.
