Why do Ball Bearings Fail??? - Morris Farms

On today's episode of Morris Farms we will be changing a ball bearing in the top roller of a John Deere 457 round baler. This is something that goes out and can cause catostrophic damage (FIRE!!) to farm equipment. We were lucky this time and caught it before it flamed up. One of the easiest ways of removing a interferious fit bearing is to weld a crappy bead with some type pf electric welder , when it cools it will fall out!

my friend I worked for John Deere for years and I moonlighted the whole time with low budget folks like we all are but the easiest way to get the race out is use a dremel tool with cut off wheel and cut through the race and it will always come loose growing up we didn't have a lot of money so I learned how to things with the items we had on hand I glad I did because to this day if I get the call from farmers I still wrenching every now and then!

I have found one of the best ways to move a bearing race is just take the torch and carefully cut it and it generally falls right out

Heat is always a good tool to use....

Both bearings have the same amount of time of use. I understand you are considering cost, but once you get it back together, the other one goes out and you have to disassemble all over again.

Take your electric welder and run a bead on the inside diameter of the race and it will fall out.
