  • Easter hike in the Taraua Ranges, NZ. Detours, change of plans, falling over and good times, followed by a gear review. This was a training hike for the Softrock 100mile hike we will be doing in Colorado in July. Feat Murray the cat. Attempting to see how lightweight or ultralight I can go on gear and still stay safe in the Tararua Ranges.

Thanks, good review. A friend and I did "the razor's edge about 30 years ago right from Shannon (Burn hut) to the Quoin ridge I'm pretty sure Dingle holds the record. That's the "Propper way" lol. Of course, in those days we didn't have GPS we had to know how to navigate and trust our skills. it took us 5 days whereas Graeme ran it non stop.
Being an "old fella" now I just thought id mention that ;-)

Don't want to sound picky, but we call it tramping, let's not lose our culture. I think that the late Colin Rolfe holds the record for running the SK. Great video.

He was the first to finish it sub 24 hours in 1995 but he no longer holds the fastest time. I think that honor goes to Sam McCutchen and Danny Garrett who ran together finishing in 18 hour 48 minutes in 1996.
