    Only Erik Paulson can kick ass wearing a Star Trek DS9 uniform. Amazing.

    Yeah, I agree. Just remember that the stated purpose of the video was to end a fight quickly using a "quick kill" maneuver that would completely incapacitate an opponent in moments. Given that definition it's not surprise that they don't work on experienced martial artists. This is more focused on the street I guess.

    There are thousands of moves in martial arts and none of them will work every time and for everybody it depends on how good you are at them and how good your opponent is and other things like flexibilty,clothing,the evironment your in and so on.

    Sakuraba nearly pulled the 2nd move off against carlos newton. It's legit catch wrestling and valid. That said it's a higher level move than it appears to be. It's not the maneuver itself but the way you bait your opponent. It's very hard to pull off in straight grappling because if you grab someone's foot it's easy to say "Hey footlock" but when you're punching at their face your opponent's foot won't be his primary concern.

      In 93 he was studying with the Gracie family (since 1986) and winning Shooto tournaments in Japan. The reason he hasn't taken the Gracie Challenge is, he'd get his ass handed to him on a platter.

    • @foxybrown2
      @foxybrown2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @denebgarza and Karidaty. Alot of keyboard warriors coming on youtube. Erick Paulson could beat you and everyone you know in consecutive order. He weighs 65 pound more now. Its a demo video. And then after you pulled your legs out, he would have already broken several of your limbs in a real fight.

  • @retardno002
    @retardno002 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree, that is why I specifically stated that they just don't work for ME and why I fail to do them (the immediate guard pulling). Maybe more pressure on the side of the opponent's left knee while my rib cage is pushing on his right leg (given the position from the video @2:40) but still. I believe that's unnecessary while you clearly have the guard pass off the beautiful takedown which = points (if grappling) and more options (if full contact fighting). Maybe this is a good surprise attack???

  • @retardno002
    @retardno002 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    watching this again after trying for months to pull these moves off @ the gym I just had a revelation. they're crap against anyone who can actually grapple. I love Paulson, I trained under one of his students in the UK, CSW is amazing but the moves in this video are just... maybe I'm not good enough to pull them off but the second you put someone on their back like that you're gonna have knee on your belly while they scramble for guard so those leg locks are out of the question. At least for me.
