I will always pack my formal wear and as a matter of fact.I'm even packing fancier dresses for the non-formal nights.Just to feel special during my one week a year
I am ALL over #11. Took a suit, sport coat, 2 pairs of slacks on a cruise from Santo Domingo to London. Carefully packed in a nice garment bag. Completely, totally mussed from the time we boarded our flight to the time we boarded and took everything out. RCL advised us of formal, semi-formal etc nights so I packed accordingly. RCL didn't care. On the first formal night, I'm wearing my rumpled suit and dress shoes and people show up that looked like they just washed up on the beach after a shipwreck - AND were seated! That was 2009. Next cruise was 2022 on Carnival. There was one formal night (although we didn't know about it ahead of time) and those Carnival regulars were all decked out. I wasn't sure if we were going to be seated in MDR in my dockers and polo but we were. Next was NCL. No formal nights were announced that I know of. Probably 'cause no one cares anymore most like due to what I said above - to much of a PItA to haul a suit halfway across the world only to have it be mussed or pay $20 to have it pressed.
Great updates 😊. Love your blouse or dress❤. Have switched over to 2-3 smaller bags instead of my favorite big toiletry bag….easier to put into the weird empty spaces.
Agree on most all.....we are carry on only now. Husband lost his card out of his pocket while walking the top deck on a cruise last year....he asked for a lanyard after that. PS: RCL made him a brand new card and cancelled the lost one. It was an easy fix. We don't go formal anymore either.....just black slacks and nice tops for me, and dockers & polo shirts for husband. Much easier. I usually like the printed cruise planners too, but last time I discovered not all the activities were on the paper copy.
I still love dressing up for Formal night, there’s not a lot of reasons to dress up so I enjoy getting the chance to be a little fancy. I’m still a fan of a lanyard so I don’t see myself giving that up any time soon.
Great tips!.. I still use a lanyard.. even got kudos on my last trip.. but might skip it this round & have one of those pockets on my smartphone case to carry it.
I ditched the highlighter when the apps came out. Dressy clothes is a must Lanyards I got rid of years ago, I can't stand them around my neck all the time. A must for me is a portable light up makeup mirror, it folds to about the size of a tablet and rechargeable with a usb. I will not give up my large toilet bags, I use too many skin care products. I will always take my own snorkel mask , i have asthma and just can hold my breath long enough. My husband switched to the goggles years ago. We ditched the fins after the grandkids tore them up in our pool. I never did use the over the door shoe hanger but i do use it in our RV. I do have a portable steamer that folds up that i take to get the wrinkles out of our dress clothes. My issue is shoes i want to take too many shoes.
We just got off of the Carnival Radiance and the walls were NOT magnetic. The celling was but we missed the storage that the magnets provide!! The door to the room was not highly magnetic either. My little sign was too flimsy to stick. I also had 2 different people ask me where I bought my cute lanyard from. They are still great especially for those kiddos.
I had the same problem with the stateroom door on RC's Wonder of the Seas. I had to balance my little magnetic picture frame atop the peephole so that it did not slide all the way down the door, lol.
I don't like a lanyard. I have one, but don't use it. I put my key card in my pocket or my cigarette case with a lipstick and I'm set. My make up bag is separate from my toiletries bag. I leave it on the vanity with my travel mirror (folds flat). My toiletries bag is unpacked and folded into my empty suitcase. Wall magnets are a must, though, to keep flat areas clear. I do get a free laundry bag that I use mid-point through the cruise for my swimsuits and travel outfit for the trip home.
I’m a carry on packer, can fit two weeks of clothes in my bag. My husband had me buy him an extra large suitcase because he packs a lot of clothes and stuff.
We leave on a 9 night cruise next week. I know I will over pack. I want to take my big camera because pictures I have printed from my Iphone don't look that great IMO. I also want to take a small pair of binoculars just so I can look at things far away if I choose. I did buy a InstaPro360 but don't know the quality of photos it takes. I did get towel bands and heavy duty magnets. My daughter and I are going to dress up. We never do that and thought it would be fun 😊
I use a phone case with a purse strap and has a small wallet in the back. Since the cruises are using apps instead of paper and I carry a phone for pictures, it only made sense. Also got my husband a case with a stick on card holder. Works perfectly for us!
Yes to all of those except I pack one formal dress now. I've ditched my huge suitcase because I hurt my back on my last cruise lugging it. It has converted me to a minimalist packer 😂
We just purchased larger suitcases to be able to get everything in them & have hands free experience w/ a back pack on our backs. Still using my over the door shoe organizer, a lanyard w/ hand sanitizer attached, & recently purchased the bands for the towel on chair. We are ditching the large toilet bag & we will be using the small TSA containers on our next cruise.
I was on the Regal Princess out of Galveston at end of January this year. I wore a black suit and tie on the first formal night of the cruise. And, I was the only guy in the entire restaurant wearing a suit besides the restaurant managers. A few men were in sports coat and slacks. Most men were wearing khakis and a polo shirt. Formal nights are definitely on their way out.
We had some cooler weather on that cruise. And what's funny is that for the "2nd" formal night I decided to dress down and wear a cable knit sweater and khakis. I was still "overdressed." LOL@@CruiseTipsTV
Just used my shoe organizer last week on Mardi Gras. I hang on a wall using magnet hooks. Kept things off the desk surface and we felt more organized. Yes to highlighter. No formalwear. We just dress nice.
Cool vid, thx! ❤ I still, and likely always will use my medium sized checked suit case. I usually cruise to mixed weather destinations, or unpredictable weather destinations so I'm not usually clear on what's best to pack. Taking hours to plan a capsule wardrobe is daunting to me, just too much work. I will still carry a lanyard because I don't want to be restricted in making sure iv always got a pocket. Cash is not carried around on a ship so no need for a purse. I use a little pouch type lanyard card holder, so I can put my phone and chap stick in there as well. I will also still carry a small make up bag as it doubles as my jewelry case as well. Also because a zip lock is not as durable to be pack and unpacking and tossing around. Thanks to your tip of a USB bar instead of a power bar/extension cord I have purchased one of those for my next cruise. Cheers to you all 🎉❤
26 cruises in here's my opinion-Over the door hanger, out.. unless you have 3 or more in the cabin. Camera-out. When I did take it, I just never used it because it seemed like such a hassle. I just used my phone. Binoculars-AK YES, other trips no. Toiletry bags- no. They aren't pretty but who cares, Ziploc bags are much better and easier to pack. Towel clips-still Take them even though I like the bands. I have decided to not buy any unnecessary accessories Usb hub-depends on the ship and how many in the cabin Euro adapters-nope Books-no, never did Boots-nope,water proofed my sneakers Highlighter-no. Fancy clothes- I still dress appropriately, but I don't fuss over it being exactly fancy. Sundresses, skirts and blouses Luggage- I don't use anything larger than 24-26 inches. If I pack a 28 inch suitcase to capacity is too heavy for the flight Snorkel-yes. Fins, no Alem clock-nope, wake up call and my phone Walkies-nope Beach bags -no .lightweight bacpaclk Lanyard-no, wristlet always Travel hangerd-YES Guess i am a cool kid. But I do still overpack l o l
Haha, LOVE this! You're a cool kid either way! Thanks for sharing an expert cruiser opinion! I like your list, and pretty much do the SAME with most of this stuff.
I will always do formal wear. I love dressing up and don't get to do it often so I go all out! I'm also someone that took the biggest suitcase I could find and pack for 2 weeks, but our cruise march next year will be my first time going carry on only because we're flying to Miami with 3 kids 😅 everyone will be carry on because I don't want the stress of keeping up with that many suitcases
Perfect timing! I am packing for my Icon cruise next week and keep putting things in and out of my suitcase 😂. I am switching from towel clips to the strap bands and not taking as many dressy clothes as in the past. I do love dressing up though but want a lighter smaller suitcase now days. The beach bag and lanyard will still go with me I think though.
Yes, magnets are the way to go and if you use them on the ceiling you can still use the shoe hanger. It doesn't fit so well on the bathroom door so why force it when you can hang from the ceiling next to the wall. I have been torn about my DSLR Camera and I have to say the easy and the control that I have with the camera it would be tuff to leave it at home! Yes I do use the cell phone camera and I know that if I capture a great picture on my cell phone it doesn't always allow me to print it out any larger than maybe a 8"x10" and if I get it with my DSLR Camera I can print it out on a poster and it still looks great!
I never have used a lanyard. I use the adhesive card holder and put it on the back of my cell phone (onto the cell phone case.) Since I always have my phone with me to use the ships APP, it is convenient! Thanks for all your info and I really enjoy your videos.
I have two lanyards that look like necklaces; one is gold and one is silver! Umbrella for sure getting packed as well as hanging storage for toiletries especially if 3 in cabin.
After listening to your podcast on this same topic, I have to say that sexy has definitely been brought back in 2024! Who knew it would involve lederhosen?!?! 🔥🔥🔥
I have heard on some of the newer ships, you can buy a bracelet that works as your key card now. I feel like that would be so much better than having a card.
Hey Sherri! Great Vlog! Most of those items I do not pack because it is too much. However, I disagree with the toiletry bag. I love my big toiletry bag. It works for me and I am quite sure for others too. The small bags are only good for weekend trips not 7+ cruise days. If I used the small bag then I am rationing how much product I must use and I don't like that at all! I know on the cruise ship they have shampoo and body wash to use just in case you forget to bring yours or you just didn't bring enough. But the problem with using their products and not your own is those items may not be skin sensitive. Everyone can't use harsh or different soap for their hair or body. Also, if people are carrying the small toiletry bags I am almost sure they are carrying several small bags too! So own that note, I am happy to bring my big toiletry bag. I believe you must follow what is best for you and not what others count as obsolete. Lastly, I do love my highlighter! I am not giving that one up! Lol!
I think a few of these items are still good if you are traveling with young kids. Especially the travel clock - so they can see what time it is without asking. :-)
Yay!!! I knew it 😍😍 … so cool. Thanks for checking it out… ❤️❤️ Happy Cruising ❤️❤️ Just goes to show, I would geek out seeing my fav cruise~tubers out there 😎
I’ve only been on one cruise, and that was over 20 years ago. I had a lanyard for my cruise card, and I’m glad I did. I have a tendency to misplace things, and I could just see me losing it in port and not being allowed back on the ship! 😂 I know a lot of you said you put your cruise card in your phone case, but what happens if your phone is stolen or lost? How do you get back on the ship? Do you have to provide proof of your identity? I’m just curious how that works.
I never take a door shoe hanger ever and I only pack 2 two shoes in a shoe bag for traveling 🌹✨✨🛳️🫶🏻💕🫶🏻🌹✨✨❤️🫶🏻💕💕🫶🏻🛳️✨✨❤️❤️❤️✨✨🛳️🌹🫶🏻💕💕🫶🏻🛳️✨❤️❤️❤️❤️✨🛳️🫶🏻💕💕🫶🏻🛳️🛳️✨✨❤️❤️❤️❤️🛥️🛳️🌹🫶🏻🫶🏻❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We tried some of these “old trends “… some were a waste of suitcase space .. some we are slowly getting rid of or condensing into one (bathroom bags). The formal clothes?? We primarily sail with NCl which doesn’t require “formal nights”… however we miss that from other lines. So we don’t get ALL fancied up… but we do and enjoy getting dressed up… because we normally don’t get to do that.. 🤷♀️
I won’t use precious packing space to hold formal wear. I dress country club casual and go to the MDR for dinner. My husband wears black or khaki pants with a collared button down shirt. Bringing a tux or gown is not gonna work for us, especially since we do carryon frequently.
As long as the weight doesn't exceed the restrictions, the bigger the suitcase, the better! They don't have to be crammed full, and there's available space for souvenirs or gifts picked up on the trip.
Just came back from 15 night Panama Canal trip... next time will not pack: black heels, super formal dresses, pantyhose, Yeti Water Bottle, Hand pump soap, hair detangler, soap dish, all my chargers (used the hubbies multi port one!), so many books, so many crossword puzzle books, flat iron, so many dressy blouses, extra reading/sunglasses, OFF, so many sandals... WILL take: binoculars, magnets, alarm clock, wristband Medallion holder instead of Lanyard, more casual clothes!
Nice video. I agree with some and don't agree with a few. I still dress up but not in a tuxedo. For example, I will wear a nice pastel color suit and a really nice bow tie that you won't find them in the US. The only place that you find these are in Hong Kong. They are very royal looking. I still am taking my alarm clock with me though because if I were doing a transatlantic with the time change everyday and if you don't have internet, that would be hard to keep up. Your watch or your phone might not be accurate. I don't bring a DSLR camera but I bring a mirrorless compact camera. A phone will never replace a camera. People who takes photos with a phone will never have the same result as a camera. With Royal Caribbean and princess, I hardly use a lanyard anymore.
Love the bulky cosmetic bag not gonna lie! I have a cute ones and I hang them up in the bathroom. I don't like things all over the sink and they keep everything confined
Things I have never brought in the 20 years of cruising: Shoe organizer (do not bring enough stuff to put in it), Binoculars, Oversized Toiletry Bag (stuff that would go into something like this, goes into multiple small bags to be able to tuck in small spaces in suitcases) no towel clips, or highlighters or Snorkel gear, or Walkie Talkies, or Lanyards or Magnetic hooks (I try to keep all my stuff tucked away in closets, drawers. I don’t want my room to look like my suitcase exploded in the room and stuck to the walls. We have replaced the DSLR camera with a smaller camera or just use our phone. We definitely have step down our Formal Wear, husband used to bring 2 suits but now just one, unless it’s a hot climate, he doesn’t want to wear a suit so it would be dress shirt, pants. Stopped using an alarm clock and just use our phones. Still use power strip and adapters, may bring a book (depends on the cruise, ports vs sea days) may bring hiking boots if an excursion warrants it, we usually use a day pack or messenger for port days. Still travel with checked sized suitcases, we are on the large, so clothes have a lot of fabric, winter clothes going to Norway to see northern lights, takes up space. Things we will be adding - water bottles with filters.
I’m with you. I love so much dressing up. You’re gonna laugh but my son wore a blue Oxford shirt and a tie today when we went to urgent care to handle the poison oak issue. A gentleman who is 96 years old came up to us and said that seeing our son dressed up was bringing him so much HOPE. So yes, I am 100% in your corner on this!!!
Bring your snorkel mouth peice or buy one at the excursion. The rented ones are disgusting. They are not cleaned well and you can end up with a chronic illness.
We've found ourselves going back to checked baggage due to the issues with everyone wanting to take carry on luggage nowadays. We actually found it to be more relaxing as it forces us into taking a more leisurely approach to our travels.
I agree with the majority of these. Only exceptions: * Big toiletry bags. I have 2 for the 3 of us and it works for us. * Highlighter pens. Yep I'm old school too 😂 * Fancy Clothes. We still like to dress up. * Snorkel Gear. I'm not bringing the fins anymore, but I need a prescription mask. * Lanyards. I'm a lanyard geek. Great video Sheri! ❤

I will always pack the highlighter! That's part of the fun, the night before, when I want to highlight everything I want to do the next day!
RIGHT? We old school, and that's OKAY!
But how do you find room for such a huge, bulky item? 😺
Me too!
Oh no way ditching my formal dresses! Heck no I love to get all dolled up!! ❤
Same!!
Me too, unless someone gets married or dies it's the only time I can get my husband all dressed up.

We used an over the door shoe holder recently, but hung it on the wall with magnets next to the closet. It was out of the way and worked out great!
That's cool! Good idea!
Can you share the magnets you used ? I am cruising this summer with my 1 yr old. Definitely could use this.
Here are some that work great- they hold up to 27 lbs! amzn.to/43zmGN6
@@anne-isabellejoseph5310 I got a 12-pack from Amazon that are very similar to the ones @CruiseTipsTV gave the link for.
i skip all of those mentioned items apart from the formal dress, we still dress up for formal nights🤗
I pretty much agree with this list. I do however still use a lanyard because I will and have in the past lost my seapass card.
Totally agree!
I'll give up my highlighter and lanyard when they're pried from my cold, dead hands. Another great video! Thanks!
😂😂😂😂😊😊

I still like the highlighter as well! We request a Cruise Compass because we like to see it all in one view instead of scrolling on the app.
Love it!
Same here! I will always prefer paper to screens!
No to ditching formal wear. People who don’t want to dress up, go to the buffet.
I dress up...just not formal...it's out of my budget and physical form. LOL
No formal for me and I and about 70% of others in the MDR, also wear business casual on formal nights.
11:39 I will always love my lanyard! I buy them as souvenirs as well!!!!
Great updates 😊. Love your blouse or dress❤. Have switched over to 2-3 smaller bags instead of my favorite big toiletry bag….easier to put into the weird empty spaces.

Wifey and I do not dress up much. Formal night is the one or two nights we can get our drip on. Its a must for us.

I'm also someone that took the biggest suitcase I could find and pack for 2 weeks, but our cruise march next year will be my first time going carry on only because we're flying to Miami with 3 kids 😅 everyone will be carry on because I don't want the stress of keeping up with that many suitcases
I'm a sucker for formal nights too!
We’ve been doing the USB hub for years. It’s wonderful for the pre-cruise hotel as well!
They are the best! Great point about the pre-cruise hotel!
I am sorry, smart casual is nice..but no shorts in the MDR!!
Agree 💜
Thank-you for the suggestion of the usb adaptor. I have one when I was working from home! Perfect for the ship.
Our pleasure!
I love formal nights❤
Me too!
That's great that you're starting earlier! Always ends up better! Hope you have a FAB cruise!!!!! Bon voyage!!!!
Great tip. I've always wanted to try one of those!
I have two lanyards that look like necklaces; one is gold and one is silver! Umbrella for sure getting packed as well as hanging storage for toiletries especially if 3 in cabin.
Very nice!
After listening to your podcast on this same topic, I have to say that sexy has definitely been brought back in 2024! Who knew it would involve lederhosen?!?! 🔥🔥🔥
Bahahahah! I cannot! xoxox
I like to markup my daily cruise planner too, so I feel ya!
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The one time we didn't take binoculars a mother whale with it's baby went swimming by but not close enough to see well.
I have heard on some of the newer ships, you can buy a bracelet that works as your key card now. I feel like that would be so much better than having a card.
I believe the bracelet is the default on Virgin ships.
Totally! Princess has wearables, and some other lines have similar things too. Hopefully, it's the wave of the future.
we go to form nite to eat messy food so no fancy clothes. im on vacay!!!!!!
Love it!
I replaced my lanyard with the card holder and stuck it on my phone. Since I always have my phone with me it’s perfect
Hey Sherri! Lol!
Thank you Yvonne!
I will always pack my toiletry bag! 😆
I do too, when traveling with family. I only ditch in when going solo and trying to minimize stuff.
I use magnets to hold up my shoe rack onto the wall and it is Very Handy.
That's clever!
I think a few of these items are still good if you are traveling with young kids. Especially the travel clock - so they can see what time it is without asking. :-)
One of your BEST vlogs!
Aaw, shucks! Thanks!
Is the electricity 110V or 220 V ?
Oh, a possible Sherry cameo on Coach Cruise’s Tour vid of the Carnival Jubilee.. 9:36-9:58 timestamp.. Was that You?! 😊
Ha ha yes it was. I had to search for that one, but it was indeed me!!!
I know a lot of you said you put your cruise card in your phone case, but what happens if your phone is stolen or lost? How do you get back on the ship? Do you have to provide proof of your identity? I’m just curious how that works.
best thing about a kindle, is you can downloads tons or books at once.
Yes, love it!
A lot of the time, the apps on the cruise ships are buggy. You hear big complaints about the app AND the wifi.
It's voltage not wattage. Check the label if it doesn't say 110/220 then you cant plug it into the European plug even with an adapter.
I pack dressy slacks and blouses. True formal wear takes up too much precious space for required clothing. This is especially true in Alaska.
Very true for Alaska!
Love it, it's all about evolving as we grow more experienced!
Space for souvenirs is a great point!
I still use my lanyard, but my husband doesn’t.
I am taking Carry-on and personal bag only. For formal night I will have dress casual.
Nice!
Excellent observations!
I'm keeping my highlighter and paper compass...easier to see more at once than in the app.
ME, too. Love the app, but for different reasons.
Yes! I'm a paper person, too.
Oooh, a pastel suit sounds COOL!!!!!!!!
@@CruiseTipsTV thank you. I have tons of them from Zara, Express, and h&m. I don't wear the boring black suit.
Formal night is still my favorite night
Formal night (clothing) has been pushed out because of airline restrictions on luggage limitations. Who can afford to pack checked bags anymore?
Interesting!
My lanyard has all my pins on it. Get a lot of complimments
That’s awesome!!
I like dressing up sometimes
Me too! Most times I go all out for formal night.
Love the bulky cosmetic bag not gonna lie! I have a cute ones and I hang them up in the bathroom. I don't like things all over the sink and they keep everything confined
I love a good confession! Hee hee. Me too, usually. I pack one when I have my family with me because we just have more STUFF!
I cannot see me bringing a lanyard on a cruise that uses cards. I'm too forgetful.
Fun video !
Thanks for watching!
Hi! WHat lipstick are you wearing? I love it: 🙂
It's the best. Here's an affiliate link- amzn.to/433owFy
It's kind of plumping and wears more like a balm than a lipstick.
Love this! Thank you for sharing from a seasoned cruiser perspective!
Thank God for Virgin Voyages ❤ NO FORMAL WEAR
I use a lanyard still it’s easy
Totally and it doesn't take up much space at all!
I like high lighter
Me too
RIP to your old travel alarm clock
Haha, yes, poor soul!
It would be nice if the people that don’t want to do formal night stay at the buffet. Why not dress up to eat at formal dinner…
I agree that dress codes should be upheld. Lots of casual options out there for people.
You can pry my formal wear from my cold dead hands.
I feel like books have been out for years 🤔🤔
As a photographer. I will always pack my cameras. I feel naked without them
Uh formal night!!! No way!!!
I rather read of a book. No electronic reading for me!
Love it! Do what works!
You forgot the rice cooker
Bring your snorkel mouth peice or buy one at the excursion. The rented ones are disgusting. They are not cleaned well and you can end up with a chronic illness.
Great tip!
Nah! I wanna pack EVERYTHING!!! Lol.
Hahaha! I feel ya!
We've found ourselves going back to checked baggage due to the issues with everyone wanting to take carry on luggage nowadays. We actually found it to be more relaxing as it forces us into taking a more leisurely approach to our travels.
Great point! It's gotten crazy!
Just curious - what issues about other people using carryon would cause you to go back to using larger bags?
I dont care whats trendy. I care about what works.
I agree with the majority of these. Only exceptions:
* Big toiletry bags. I have 2 for the 3 of us and it works for us.
* Highlighter pens. Yep I'm old school too 😂
* Fancy Clothes. We still like to dress up.
* Snorkel Gear. I'm not bringing the fins anymore, but I need a prescription mask.
* Lanyards. I'm a lanyard geek.
Great video Sheri! ❤
Love it! I still really like to dress up too, most times! Except MAYBE on NCL when I dress up, but skip "formal" night.
@anakerose where would you get a prescription mask?
@cruisetiptv any particular reason why only on NCL?
Highlighters are in my suitcase as I type…boarding ship on Friday.
