  • In this clip from the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko continue to sort through the aftermath of the NFL draft. Will Troy Fautanu start at right tackle and replace Dan Moore Jr. in the lineup when he's ready, as many fans expect? Or could he win the left tackle spot over Broderick Jones, last year's first-round pick?
    Our duo tackles those questions, then explains why UCF's John Rhys Plumlee and West Virginia's Beanie Bishop are among undrafted free agents to watch as rookie minicamp looms for GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin and Co.

    I don’t think it’s useful to use right/left tackle in the context of Fautanu. He blocked for a left handed QB on his “strong side” or what’s typically the RT position for a right handed QB. He did not block on the QBs “blindside” typically LT position. I don’t think it’s getting the most out of either player putting Fautanu on the blindside when that’s not his typical position and Broderick Jones has been the LT/blind side blocker in college.

      blindside has NOTHING to do with the position whatsoever, why do people keep bringing up this stupid reason. Technique is not the same, footwork is not the same. Try eating with your non dominant hand for a few months and see how long it takes you to get comfortable and perfect it.

      Fautanu was the right tackle in Washington BECAUSE HIS QB WAS A LEFTY!!!
      He was protecting a lefties blindside, so he obvy going to play where he or Broderick suffers the least with the placement. They can both play the left side, but who could move most seamlessly to the right? That’s the answer.

    Fautanu said he spent lots of time practicing on the right side as well in college.

      Had I not ruptured my Achilles tendon in my senior year of high school, I'd have played ANY o-line position on the edge of criminal behavior. I oftentimes would fight my own high school teammates for being bigger than me, but big pussies.

    Fautanu is going to replace Dan Moore, which Tomlin said is going to start. This says Fautanu is going to play Left Tackle.

    Brain like everyone I do t always agree with you but I like you try to see both sides not just jam one view down our throats and wait for that time it turns out right to say see I have been telling you. There can be rationale reasons why they would put one tackle at left and the other at right. Let it play out and be open.

    They're both elite left tackles. Fautanu has more adaptability (as he and many others have said), and should perform better at RT than Broderick. Broderick was a great run blocker last year but struggled a little in pass protection at RT. That's where Fautanu should have an advantage at RT. Chris Carter is absolutely right. Fautanu should be the RT, unless in camp he shows that he is not truly adaptable.

    The constant ass kissing and coddling of Dan Moore by this coaching staff is just maddening. If he is so wonderful, why did we pick tackles in Rd1 of the last 2 drafts? Send him to the bench where he belongs and start Jones at LT, Frazier at Center, and Fautanu at RT.

      @RobertMetzgar 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, I think you're Rage Posting. I'm not sure how the coaching staff has been coddling Moore. The guy has known since Jones was drafted, that he was being replaced. The only reason it didn't happen last year was Okorafor getting benched. Seriously, this year's draft was a direct message to Moore "that your days are numbered."

    Heard something about fautanu having a lisfranc in one of his feet. It’s stable but my thought is Maybe that limits his strength of play on a certain side of the line

    Moore/Jones camp battle at LT, Fautanu @ RT. Don’t forget Darnell Washington Kung Fu Panda’ing Nick Bosa… can easily motion him to whichever side needs help or obviously for the run.

    Decision at LT should be relatively simple. Jones starting at LT and letting Moore compete with Fautanu at RT should be the plan if they want Jones at LT. If Fautanu is their preferred LT then leave Jones at RT.

    Stop jerking around with Broderick Jones and put him at LT yesterday! Tell Dan Moore Jr. he's moving to RT to compete with Fautanu and the best player will get the nod. Things really aren't that flipping difficult Steelers!!!

    You guys are delusional if you think Fautanu is automatically the RT smh. The left vs right handed QB thing is almost meaningless. Casual viewer fodder. OL coaches will tell you that’s hog wash. The footwork and hand usage is what matters. Fautanu is completely geared to playing the left side of the line. He’s skilled enough he would likely be better than Broderick on the left or right side. And the massive monster tackles are RT’s, JC Latham? Mims? Trent Brown, Orldando Brown originally, massive RT’s are guide the run game. Broderick literally has significantly more experience playing RT than Fautanu does lol. The coaches have no clue right now where each T will play I promise you. Fautanu at LT and Broderick at RT may very well be what provides the best 5. Sucks for Broderick, but it’s a very possible outcome. As is he playing LT n Fautanu at RT. Chris Carters notion that it’s already locked in tackle arrangement is utter nonsense tho

      Broderick Jones struggled somewhat in pass protection at RT last year. If Fautanu's is as adaptable as he and others have said, then Broderick should play his natural position of LT where he excels in both run blocking AND pass blocking. I don't think it's locked in, but they should go with it in training camp. If Fautanu can hold his own at RT against Watt, he can handle anybody.
