You are not simply paying for just the quality and the brand name. The hat in question is made entirely of not just cashmere, but of a cashmere that's been treated with a material that makes it completely waterproof. Most other "luxury hats" are made out of synthetic and/or blended fabrics that are much easier/cheaper to manufacture and are subsequently less breathable and have a noticeably rougher hand. This was a very interesting video. I didn’t know the history of the “not wearing white after Labor Day” tradition, so thank you for mentioning that. I think what is missing from this conversation is the fact that people with newly found wealth buy loud luxury items so that they can separate themselves from the lower classes as well. Everyone is using luxury fashion to signal their social status, whether it is quiet or loud.

I think part of the issue is people are so inauthentic they’ll go with whatever trend is popular now, sway wherever the wind blows I also think this trend is almost a backlash to people of color now being able to afford these higher priced luxury items and these brand, wanting to keep it to a certain group of people you see it with these astronomical price increases you see it with people making fun of certain people who like logos or more flashier items it’s way more deeper than just wanting to look like you come from money and who cares I would rather be from new money because you actually had to work to get to where you are it wasn’t something that was handed to you. There’s no shame in that.

I have gone down the rabbit hole recently and like you said, when you reach a certain price point there is a logo either literally or figuratively( the Scarlet Khaite sweater for example) SOMEWHERE! As a woman of color, I have frequently found myself on vacation or in high end stores where I’m the only one not like the others and it’s loud wealth gone wild. Wear what you love. What a wonderful way to explain it all. It's classism, like some people looking down on the Coach brand, because it is accessible to working-class people. If someone works hard to establish wealth, and they want to use it to invest, travel, buy luxury homes, or clothing, that's their right to do so.
Agree, and Coach is actually a high quality product. There is a guy on TH-cam who is a leather tanner and he often makes videos deconstructing Coach bags along with high end brand bags...like Chanel...and he always gives high praise to Coach for such a well made bag. So, it's all about what the consumer wants...quality or recognition for paying such a ridiculous price for an inferior product just because it has a recognizable name on it...we can choose.

While I agree that elegance goes beyond clothes and material status, dressing well in quality fabrics is a good thing for everyone. A polyester garment by a high street brand can never compare to an unbranded silk/linen/leather/cotton clothing article. And this is what quiet luxury is about. If one aspires to be an elegant woman inside out, one would soon come to realise that dressing well in a manner that is respectful and still classy is of utmost importance and shines a bright light on one's dignity. The trouble is that we live in an age where carelessness and lawlessness is propagated so much that what is really good, right and true seems obscured with the phrase, "you do you" . There is absolutely nothing wrong in dressing elegantly in natural fabrics like silk, linen, cotton, wool and leather like "the old money aesthetic". Just because it has become a trend now does not mean it is wrong. Modesty, elegance and a sense of style are key. We all ought to learn that.

I have watched a lot of influencers and seen articles about quiet luxury and I have to say you nailed it. Fresh approach and honest. I have gone down the rabbit hole recently and like you said, when you reach a certain price point there is a logo either literally or figuratively( the Scarlet Khaite sweater for example) SOMEWHERE! As a woman of color, I have frequently found myself on vacation or in high end stores where I’m the only one not like the others and it’s loud wealth gone wild. Wear what you love. Wear what makes you happy and showcases your best self and be a decent human! Well done and I hope it’s ok if I share your video with my other shopaholic group😉😉☺️
Amen sister! This is seventy four years young, and I think as usual it’s a bunch of BS! First of all take care of yourself, but when it comes to fashion this is 2023! Wear whatever suits you and makes you feel good! At my age I have seen styles come and go and repeat! I must admit I had to get used to feathers and sequins in the afternoon, but oh well, to each it’s own! You learn something new everyday. Thanks for the history lesson about white after Labor Day, I never knew where that came from. My only rule for fashion is if you’ve worn the style or trend before, you had your turn!! I love that you made this video. You are very classy no matter what you wear. When they say quiet luxury, what they really mean is that that isn't unattainable. Those labels are being duplicated in that we are able to have luxury. Like you said, old money doesn't usually apply to us. I think that you pop up as old money (quite luxury)is because it means you do not have to wear logo's to look chic ,you wear the clothes not the other way around,in my opinion people should wear what ever makes them happy,you have great style fore give me but you could make a bin bag look good,that is you wear your clothes with confidence, your clothes inhance your look.

What a wonderful way to explain it all. It's classism, like some people looking down on the Coach brand, because it is accessible to working-class people. If someone works hard to establish wealth, and they want to use it to invest, travel, buy luxury homes, or clothing, that's their right to do so.
Agree, and Coach is actually a high quality product. There is a guy on TH-cam who is a leather tanner and he often makes videos deconstructing Coach bags along with high end brand bags...like Chanel...and he always gives high praise to Coach for such a well made bag. So, it's all about what the consumer wants...quality or recognition for paying such a ridiculous price for an inferior product just because it has a recognizable name on it...we can choose.

Perfect stated sis, these ppl worried about the wrong things honestly. The way i see it is whatever you wear whether it $1 or 1 million as long as you rock it well and it suits your personal style taste and preference you're fine 🤷♀️
While I agree that elegance goes beyond clothes and material status, dressing well in quality fabrics is a good thing for everyone. A polyester garment by a high street brand can never compare to an unbranded silk/linen/leather/cotton clothing article. And this is what quiet luxury is about. If one aspires to be an elegant woman inside out, one would soon come to realise that dressing well in a manner that is respectful and still classy is of utmost importance and shines a bright light on one's dignity. The trouble is that we live in an age where carelessness and lawlessness is propagated so much that what is really good, right and true seems obscured with the phrase, "you do you" .
There is absolutely nothing wrong in dressing elegantly in natural fabrics like silk, linen, cotton, wool and leather like "the old money aesthetic". Just because it has become a trend now does not mean it is wrong. Modesty, elegance and a sense of style are key. We all ought to learn that.
