This is awesome. "Money isn't as important as doing it right" - just love Tess! Best lesson of all. Letting you choose was really fun and sweet. Thanks for sharing with us. We want to add sheep in a year or two and these videos are so valuable. Blessings to you both.
Money isn’t as important as doing it right! That is how you know you’re talking to someone who actually understands what she’s doing! Love her attitude!
Somehow I had missed this video. Going over what she looks for in a ewe is golden info. I hope her book does well! It’s information that everyone interested in a successful sheep operation needs
Yes! You've picked to best one! It's so interesting seeing someone with years of experience guiding some one who wants to learn. Plus we all will see the baby and I'll feel like part of the process.
I really love this series, keep up the great videos. I admire Tess. Her love and commitment to the sheep is easily seen. Glad you have Tess as your Mentor. Thank-You to both of you. Just an Awesome Series. Blessings! You Too Little Buddy!
You can tell Tess is proud of you that her lessons she's taught you have been learned. This is similar to what we'd do in 4-H, they'd have us judge animals and discuss the whats and whys. What I learned about sheep over 40yrs ago was that the rams wear a marking harness, which puts dye/paint on the ewe when they mate, so the farmer can tell which ewes have already been covered. Does Tess need to use these, or are they outdated, or does she just have so "few" sheep it's not a management issue?
I was leaning towards Smutty Nose too! 😄 Please show the confirmation lines Tess is describing. I understood the deeper over wider but what was the bottle shape referring to? Soft udder 👍 (Obviously not noticeable on a maiden.) Short hair on hind quarters 👍 Back length long from the ribs to hips 👍 Wide back stance 👍 Thanks for putting this series together - it's AWESOME!! I want Tess for my neighbor! 😜
Terri Poulin coke bottle meaning from the ewe/maiden's chest to hind quarters. There should be a swelling just behind the front legs, i think. Dan, make sure to correct me if I'm messing you up. - Jacob
Acoatof Gold - Good visual description!! As in front of her legs she should very narrow, flair out behind the front legs to reasonably wide hips? I may want to pick up some sheep this next season! This series is awesome! Thanks for your help!! 😀
I'd like to know how much wool Zoe's lamb carries through the season. We switched to Katahdin because of self shedding, and hope to avoid trimming. I'm realizing that I will need to continue to judge ewes for criteria important to me. Really interesting series!
You rocking in Dan! Behind the excellent content-- dude!!! The image you filming is killer! I've never asked...what camera are you filming with? The colors are popping so awesome here!
Hey Beau! Thanks man. I'm using a G7X mark ii. I bought a 70D years ago but I have found it not suitable for farm filming. I can't get the stable image from a DSLR that you can without a tri/mono pod
First thing to check is their mouth to determine their age. At 6 the teeth will become loose, at 7/8 the teeth fall out so their condition will fall away fast. You shouldn’t buy ewes older than 4. Lambs get 2 big front teeth at 1year old, 4 teeth at 2, 6 teeth at 3 years etc.
Great job Dan pickin' Smutty Nose! I am curious as to the maiden ewe. Will she be given a chance but be on the "B" team until she can prove herself? She really is a nice lookin' ewe. :)

Thank you for sharing. I'm doing my research before going into sheep farming
Love this vids. Can’t wait till I get older to have my own homestead
I would love to meet Tess and pick her brain. I really appreciate these vids. One day I'll have sheep because of your videos and her lessons.

I'm enjoying this series. Thanks for sharing:)
I love the practical advice.
What about age? How long can they breed before you shouldn't breed them?
Thank you so much for teaching us.

Great video!!
Hi,,, I am looking for a safe way to attach a bell to my sheep? Any information?
🤷♂️ I've never seen that before.
we raised sheep a few years ago on our farm and they would eat the grass out of our field

I know almost NOTHING about sheep breeding so forgive me if this is a flat out stupid question but what are the rules on line breeding with sheep?
Where are you from mam
Good 🔝👍👍
👍👍👍
Smutty Nose rules!
Thank you so much for teaching us.
