Currently reading Arjan’s book. Will likely take twice as long to finish compared to any similarly sized book given that every reference to a species or location has me put the book down to go searching the web for more details, images, and audio. I figure at this pace it will take me months to finish his book!! On a side note, I want to mention that since I starting birding very recently - Feb 2023, your channel has been the perfect aid to my introduction to birding - your collective enthusiasm, knowledge and generosity with experiences has been welcoming and helpful to me. So thank you both for what you do. I must say that Arjan seems to have a similar personality. Arjan’s advice - learn your “patch” was really was good to hear, as this is basically what I’ve been doing. It is helpful to improve skills and fun at the same time. Great advice from Arjan and thanks for the wonderful interview, well done!!
Great interview and episode....buuuuuut does seeing the most in a year make you the "best"? Does most = best? Seems a bit of a stretch to me. Not to take away anything from his amazing year, seeing that many species in a year is an insane accomplishment.
The golden oriole is amazing… also extremely hard to track in Western Europe, took me several days and miles of walking to eventually find a pair and a few fledglings. Absolutely beautiful birds… it was their call that I recognised first, then I saw a few feeding on fruits high up. Then I waited a while longer to see a male and the female both perching on the same dead tree… Attempted to get a picture and failed miserable so I’m returning this year to try and get a proper photo.
What an interview. Arjan is such a legend, cheers to him! Great video guys and congrats on your record Arjan. btw I know its hard with money but do you think you guys will ever do a big year :) ?
