I had thought about making this video for a while, but when I heard about Barry's (Adventure Oz) experience I had to crank one out. Have you ever been on a paid adventure tour/ride? How was your experience? Here's Barry's story! th-cam.com/video/BZp--useeJU/w-d-xo.html
In 1995 I contacted Tom @ Embajador in San Diego, I convinced 3 friends to fly from NY to Ca & ride new XR650’s in Mexico’s Baja. Tom our guide had limitations for riding fast but he knew where to stop & stay for awesome food, great accommodations, unforgettable scenery, unforgettable people & must see before you die places. We hung out in San Diego’s old town, got picked up at the recommended hotel, trailered down to tecate & rode for 5 days with no gear! Chase truck shows up with your stuff & an extra bike on board for incidental rim bending - sorry Tom..... Any way yes do it! Only with a guide for the less than Fearless adventurer in you. I hear Some guy in Costa Rica rents husqies 🤔 Great vid Thanks for the memory jog!
$150-$200?????? Half way through this I was planning a reply video to discount everything you said (not in a malicious way), then I saw it was an advert and calmed down and then I saw your price and im thinking "ok, now I know why hes thinking this way". You would definitely be worth the money. Here, there is not a tour company that is less than $500 a day, and a good one is closer to $1000. Here, tours are ok for the rich.... everyone else should just make friends.
Hey brother. We just moved to Colorado about ten months ago. Soon after our arrival, I got reacquainted with riding dirt after 20 years after watching your Alpine Loop videos. Very motivating. I have you to blame for causing 27 of my friends and family to come out a few weeks ago when we rode most of the Alpine Loop. LOL. Every day was an epic ride and scenery. Got some great pics of the whole crew and many, many memories were made for 8 days. Thanks again and keep 'em coming. Heading out to the KTM rally in Salt Lake in the fall.
Dude, you nailed it! I just got back from a tour ride in the Himalayan mountains and there is no way I would want to do that solo. Just the regional border crossings and required paperwork would have been a nightmare, let alone how terrifying roads in Asia can be by themselves. I went with Ride Expeditions and had a great time - everything was covered and I could focus on the riding and having a great time.
I'm just going to say this: I really enjoy these types of vides: you, speaking over the video of your adventures. You truly are a great writer, speaker/orator and creator. Haven't followed you much lately due to work and a few other things, but it's nice to come back and "catch up" on what's going on. Ride safe man!
My ride with you in the badlands and warner valley and staying at the moto mansion was well worth the money. I had always wanted to ride the St George area but could never find anyone to go with me. Wasting a day or two finding where to ride and missing the fun trails and paying for a hotel while worrying about my bike all night wasn't an option either. Your option is a bargain!! A great time with great, like minded people and all the perks that go with your deal.. People would be crazy to pass up an opportunity to ride and stay with you.
Excellent discussion, excellent video quality, excellent information, and excellent sound quality. You score 100% on Outback Eddies quality/Value scale.
I have been on several dirt bike tours. Many times in Vegas with Trac On Tours. I had a great time with them. I also have done one tour with Elite in western Colorado. It was ok. I booked another one this summer and they messaged me a few days ahead they didn't have a guide but I could join another group they booked after me. I was not happy. I will keep an eye on my schedule, I will book one with you next spring.
You're a good guy, you must be LDS in all your videos I can tell you exude that of an LDS member. I know because I am one. I love your videos I just bought my first KLR yesterday and it was because of you. Thank you Southern Utah brother!
I get your point(s). But, my experience with group riding has not been good. The more experienced folks in the group either leave you behind, or get (very) frustrated having to go slow so you can keep up and/or help when you go down. Experienced riders CAN help you become a better rider, but most I've met won't. I don't like being the guy that holds everyone up, so solo or one or two friends is my go to. I don't need the egos or BS.
Norsefalconer I'm a street rider only, I wouldn't be of any use at all on trails or dirt...I do have friends who ride dirt bikes and adv. As for myself though, I have a Honda 600 cruiser and a Yamaha Majesty 400 scooter...dirt and trail riders seem to have a ton of fun I miss out on. Oh well.
Can you blame em? Did they spend all that cash to babysit or to ride? What gets me is guys who entirely lack the skills and experience and yet just because they have their license and can shift gears and steer and stop etc well enough to pass the test then they buy a big ass heavy adventure bike and expect a riding clinic to bring them up to speed?? ...IMHO? NO! WRONG! Buy a LIGHT WEIGHT dirt oriented bike and just put in a LOT of hours learning....get some buddies and go out on weekends and just play! Hill climbs, trails...practice trying to slide around corners and lofting front end over bumps ...find safe places to do jumps just anything to have fun and get that "muscle memory" ....THEN after becoming VERY confident in the dirt on something lighter and easy to manage? THEN (and ONLY THEN) buy yourself a middleweight dual sport and try some outings in that class ....don't just buy a 600lb fully farkled and fueled rig and expect guys out trying to enjoy themselves to babysit you ...that's my 2 cents..anyone agree? . ..Hey just because you can throw money at the problem is NOT going to earn you admission ...sorry it does not work that way ...(a poor expert rider on a old beater with a fraction of the power will run circles around a rich newbie on heavy ass "adventure bike" oncethe road/trail becomes challenging at all ) heck EVEN someone that only wants to ride just a STREET bike should in my opinion ALWAYS start with a light weight dirt oriented bike ....find forgiving terrain and learn the physics of motorcycles the BEST POSSIBLE place ...in the DIRT without unforgiving pavement and oncoming vehicles waying tons ...and if you lack places to ride a dirt bike? Is there a local motocross track open weekdays for practice? It might be embarrassing but who cares ...go there and pay your$20 or whatever and ride round and round a groomed track where probably if you go at the right time of day hardly anyone will be out there ...just stay out of the way if there are some fast movers practicing ...the great thing about tracks is you are never far from your vehicle and help and everyone is going the same direction ...as long as you don't have an ego problem you will have a blast ...if anyone asks "what in the hell are you doing on THAT here?" Just tell em! You just need a safe place to learn....a lot of tracks have some hills and warm up areas too .... It really might work for you! (don't get me wrong I am NOT saying that goofing around in the dirt is going to instantly make someone a skilled street rider ...but it sure is the best place to start!)
Hint ...and if the dirt thing is only an means to an end? Heck buy a used one! Get a well maintained dirt bike or dual sport, ride it in the dirt until you are quite confident and then sell it! Be warned however you might just accidently find you love THAT so much you put off the big ass adventure bike
@@dougiequick1 That part about a street rider, riding dirt is stupid though. For one, maybe riding dirt isn't somebody's cup of tea. They want to ride a motorcycle, and have things like work and school(maybe both)...and have NO time to go out dirt riding on a small displacement bike they will predominantly use to get around town. That is why things like the MSF class exist. That is why practicing in an empty parking lot, before taking the bike out onto the road gives you the way to build up confidence. Maybe someone should either start off on a 50cc Chinese scooter, then work their way up ( 150, 250, 400, etc )is a better option...before jumping on something with a clutch and shift. How is getting something that you won't be able to use, because it doesn't serve the purpose you intend to use it help??
Thank you for sharing! I just got home today from my first guided vacation to Peru - the Salkantay hike; I can't recommend it enough as a hike. I've soloed in Europe and Thailand before and I came away from the guided tour with that as a lot more rewarding over just bumbling around a language and culture I don't understand; The local knowledge is key! I think one of your rallies looks like an amazing time since my buddy and I rented a couple of enduro's when we were in Cusco, Peru for a half a day and we really wanted more of that when we were done. We also live in Denver, CO! :)
Maybe I'll see you in the fall when things cool off a little! Thanks for the offer in leave the light on LOL. Great video! Looks like excellent value for sure.
I agree, but with the caveat that the guide matters most. I had the best 4 days of 2018 with a MotoVermont, who took care of everything (rented bikes, routes, taught skills, helped through the tough sections, booked hotels, BBQ, beers and campfire) and really came through when one of the group had a catastrophic equipment fail (oil pan). Can't say enough good about them. On the other side, I took a guide from Vegas, who ruined left me penniless and "ripped-off" - renting me a 15 year old DRZ and forgetting to fuel it up as we headed into the desert (which reduced the all-day-guided-tour to 45 minutes), and the second time (same company, different guide) the chap said I should lead (which took us to a 70 degree incline goat-track, where he had a puncture and walked back). The Vegas crew charged me a kings ransom, and each guide basically demanded a huge tip at the end of each "day".
Depending on what kind of riding a person wants to do. Adventure bikes are a bit heavy for me and very low performance in dirt. That’s not to say that some day I won’t convert to adventure bikes. They are very comfortable I’m sure. I prefer dual sports for now because of their dirt performance although they lack that street comfort. I read the title as “adventure bikes”, but then I started to realize the video was about adventure tours lol. Anyway, I would definitely like adventure tours outside the US. Inside the US I would feel comfortable on my own for the most part.
Well, the new Husky's are made by KTM so they are pretty much the same bike these days. There are a few differences, though. I really like Husqvarna because of the little differences, and also the different look. BETA looks like a pretty cool bike as well! I really considered buying one because of the oil injection, but then I did some studying and realized the suspension is a little off par. I love my Supermoto for adventure style riding! I am getting out of riding the sport bikes, so I might put my YZF-R1 up for sale soon. My current favorite bike to day dream about is the Husqvarna FE350.
I have the exact same combination of bikes, and in all reality, I could not complain. My only issue arises when I either try and ride the 1090R like the 300 or vice versa.
Sportbikes are like heroin....you KNOW you are gonna die but it just feels too good to quit ....compound fractures (both legs at once) /crushed rib cage/punctured collapsed lung and both shoulders badly separated finally got me out of the canyons (well that and the threat of divorce if I went back to it)....So I tried just street riding on something sensible ....bored me to tears....sold that bike and took up motocross racing....HAD to have some adrenaline! But did not want to die ...motocross was like methadone I recon
I own a big ADV (GS 1200 Adventure) for one reason and one reason only - my knees won't let me ride much else apart from a Harley (I aint going touring on my Harley!!!). I never take it anywhere too challenging as I tend to ride solo but it rocks on back roads and highways.
Tyler, you always present an honest overview of the DS arena -- the good parts and things to avoid. There is no doubt that your rallies offer a great value and reduce the stress of details when time is constrained. Hoping to make it to the Moto Mansion next year. (Also, ignore the naybobs and naysayers)
just did a rtw solo unsupported on my crf250l, i agree with this video. for example, i fell down in kazakstan off road and i was lucky to find a place to shelter for the night. I been lucky my whole trip but cant be lucky all my life. but i will still keep doing unsupported rides but advise all to do it with friends or guides/tour. If i do my trip again, i would know the areas because i been there but will prepare myself for a better and more adventurous ride. I will pack lighter with more spare parts, will take drone etc
150 or 200 dollars per day is an awesome value! I’ll have to book a trip sometime :) I think both ways have their advantages. You covered the guided pretty well, I think it’s the best way to get the most out of a limited amount of time. However, I really enjoy the prep/research/exploration aspect of riding. That’s part of the appeal of off-road motorcycling for me.
I have a friend with a home in Kanab. That and your videos have me seriously wanting to set up a ride with you. Just need to get my skills up and the time off.
Awesome video! We were actually talking about that recently (paid tour vs. self organised and should you ride all the way to your off road destination or should you save time and bring the bikes on trailer)
Having led people for a long time at events I can tell you some people just want to follow a track or someone. I have no clue why I myself wouldn't pay for a tour, I would pay for an event, and many go to hang out at camp with others but I'm not into "tours". However I know a lot of people are and leading people on a Point to Point is the only way they would do a particular ride where I would do it either way. There is a crazy range in price when I might charge $80 and something like the Colorado 600 is $1,500 per rider. I used to bash those mega dollar events/rides but really whatever you want to do and it makes you happy it's your money. Still after any ride the campfire is what you pay for, the making of new friends and that is the part I like.
Hey I’m new to your channel and I’ve watched tons of your videos and Colorado and hermit and others on your videos I just wanna let you know you guys ROCK and I’m looking forward to meeting you all some day on a trail and I understand stand how you feel sometimes and I say the HELL with keyboard bullies you keep your head up buddy and never stop being you god bless my friend
Imposter syndrome or not, you're an inspiration, Tyler. I hope I can meet you soon and go for a ride. I'll be looking into one of your weekender scenic rides in November if they don't sell out too soon!
Haven’t ridden since November for exactly all those reasons! Being a stay at home dad makes it so much harder. It’s hard to schedule ride time with the few people I know because they have a much different schedule than I do. I don’t really like to ride alone since I crushed my foot with my bike a few years ago. I still don’t know a lot of the trails around where I live. There are hundreds of miles of forest rd and trails. Man I wish it wasn’t such a long drive to St George from where I live in California!
Awesome footage and I will be coming out there one day.. Hope your still doing this and I will gladly pay for my time..Finally got my Patreon support for you sorted out... Thanks, and keep up the good work..
This had been my fear as a rider who was looking into the adventure riding side of motorcycling. I've decided to definitly book a tour for all the reasons you stated in this video. I also like that they have rental bikes. Investing in an adventure bike can be expensive, and what if I decide it's not for me? I'm not stuck with a bike and equipment I'll never use.
I just bought a TW200 and love it, how do you think it would handle one of your tours? Someday Id love to go. You need to make a review of the TW200! I love your reviews!
You are absolutely correct and only if you are riding within a 100 miles of civilization and don't have to know laws of other countries, I too do solo rides across the US, but when it comes to riding to dead horse to Alaska or the Himalayan areas around Tibet and Kathmandu, you will most likely do better with an adventure tour or will run into some very dangerous situations.
Id love to ride with you if i ever get the chance and i would be more than willing to show you around, but i think nessedup has shown you some of my back yard on the northern end. Keep up the good work. Your heart is an inspiration.
For me 'adventure' is about coping with the unknown, the challenges that arise from putting yourself out there. This seems like fun but maybe not an 'adventure' in the purest sense of the word, more a great ride.
also if you go back on your own to a ride you did two or three weeks ago take it slow! you might remember that tricky right hand bend with the loose stuff and funny cambers but you equally might forget the left one just as difficult only 30 yards after! better being slow and upright than blast it and fall every 100 yards! don't you think? one fall could break a leg(or neck lol) or seriously damage the bike after all! (or both woops) looks fun though! ride safe
I would never go on a paid for tour, living here in Australia there are so many state forests you can ride and be purposely lost for days and am a confident enough rider could do it on my own or with a couple of buddies, set our own pace and not have to worry about people slowing us down or wild ones trying to out do the group.
l declined group camping trips. Never would l consider paying... Most all my friends own different bike types, we all have our own style riding that make us individual.
Hey Everide, I've been watching a lot of the tube lately. I love the idea of your Bed and Breakfast . I also see a girl from Canada that wants too start a Enduro school. I'm thinking you should get her down for a weekend Seminar I'll be the first sign up! Her name is Megan Grifiths (Megs Braaap) on the tube She's the fastest thing on dirt that I've seen in a while, smooth and flowing as well. Team Canada asked her to go to Spain for the 6 day Enduro in 2017. She has some legendary guests on her channel. Check her out Everide she's Awesome!!
$200 or $150 a day for all the Man Hugs I can get?! Sign me up! I pay waaaaay more than that normally. - This is awesome man, I am going to do one of the Shredder rallies this Fall. Does the bike need to be street legal?
Its a deal, its a steal, its the sale of the feckin century! £150 bucks.. Cant moan at that! It can take years to find some ok trails and a couple of riding buds.. And its all there for you . Great vid buddy, id join ya but I'm over here in Blighty and my mate rob 3 doors down runs the ktm trail riding here in north wales , channel "RM-TRAIL-RIDING" worth a watch to see how some nube Brits do it on hire bikes haha .
I don't know how to say this without coming off as entitled or whiny, but I feel like you'll understand my criticism. This feels a little heavy handed for my tastes. It seems like you're going for a casual advertisement, which is totally fine. In fact, I'd be more than happy with an out-right in-your-face advertisement for your tours, but I don't think the way this ad came across is the way you intended it to.
You’re only as fast as the slowest guy in the tour or if he’s an idiot crashes A borrowed bike on the trail he’s never been on then your whole day gone
Do you know a site that folks can dump GPS or GoogleEarth files for their local areas? A collection of tried and true routes. I think a collective of people’s knowledge could save lots of time. Sorry for my brain vomit.

Totally agree. After guided ride in Baja a few times. I have now lead a few without a problem. Also the Chase vehicle is really missed when alone.
I'd much prefer a solo ride than a tour. I LOVE working it all out myself, even with the fails that come with it, it's all part of the adventure.
Nice info, thanks! Now I'm interested in coming to ride with you this winter
Thanks man!!!!! this completely changed my view about guided tours, I always thought they were way too expensive

I WILL BE signing up for a weekender tour, sometime next year. Looking forward to riding with you in Southern Utah.
I’ll have to book a trip sometime :)
I think both ways have their advantages.
Awesome vid. I can’t wait to get out there come October and ride.
This is awesome. Going to see about getting some vac time scheduled.
Good info dude. Wish there were some tours like this on the East Coast.
Hey i want to sign up for this fall. I have a crf250l, so looking to do a awesome enduro ride..
I might have to come out for one of those weekender rides, ship out my 1994 DR650RS ahead of me and ride of one of those scenic rides
Definitely worth it. Especially if you usually have to ride solo.
Every opportunity to learn something new with motorcycles is never a bad investment. ;)
Dude thats sick. Take my money! Im really glad you went through with this. Now i just need to find time and save some cash!
Good commercial. Makes me want to ride with everide. Some day, dude. Some day.
Hmm one of these days I’m going to schedule a tour!!
I’ve got to do this sometime. When is the best and worst time of year to go?
How much is the "Kama Aina" Hawaii word for Local Rate? Im interested!!! Hope you are still doing it !!!
I don't remember you riding into Mexico when you did your dual sport trip.. Did you make a video on that??
One day I will be making it to one of your rallies.. probably the one for noobs since I have not hit the dirt in YEARS!
Good stuff and advice mate 👌 only slightly in ore of your playground , don’t get any of that over in England
Imposter syndrome or not, you're an inspiration, Tyler. I hope I can meet you soon and go for a ride. I'll be looking into one of your weekender scenic rides in November if they don't sell out too soon!
I paid for an adventure tour once but never again. Just find some riding buddies and go!
Man I wish it wasn’t such a long drive to St George from where I live in California!
mld I started having bad anxiety last which can lead to panic attacks so that doesn’t really help my situation either.
mld thanks, I am getting help through the VA.
mld Same here! Motorcycling especially off road has helped a lot and that’s why I try to continue even when times are tough.
Who did the drone shots and what drone was used?
Sweet that is awesome
Wow what happened with that bike that was being loaded onto the truck with the crushed front wheel?
So, what if you live say, in VA and you'd like to come to one of these rallies. Is there a way to rent a motorcycle while out in UT?
For me 'adventure' is about coping with the unknown, the challenges that arise from putting yourself out there. This seems like fun but maybe not an 'adventure' in the purest sense of the word, more a great ride.
I want to start tours in Norcal/NV
One day I’ll get to do your tour. One day. In the meantime I wish you the best of success.
also if you go back on your own to a ride you did two or three weeks ago take it slow! you might remember that tricky right hand bend with the loose stuff and funny cambers but you equally might forget the left one just as difficult only 30 yards after! better being slow and upright than blast it and fall every 100 yards! don't you think? one fall could break a leg(or neck lol) or seriously damage the bike after all! (or both woops) looks fun though! ride safe
Your videos are like the narrating of the movie "Other Side of Heaven" :)
Can you provide the bike too?
I might just take you up on that offer when I hit Colorado... After getting some treatment from Wally's Wheels first that is :-)
Wow! I've got vaca coming up. I'm very interested! I have a little yorkie that I won't kennel. She's my best friend, can I bring her with me?
Awesome
Well said.
Great ad.
I would never go on a paid for tour, living here in Australia there are so many state forests you can ride and be purposely lost for days and am a confident enough rider could do it on my own or with a couple of buddies, set our own pace and not have to worry about people slowing us down or wild ones trying to out do the group.
Do you think an Africa Twin could handle a shred?
Prolly all depends on if it has the right connector from footpegs to handlebars and seat.
l declined group camping trips. Never would l consider paying... Most all my friends own different bike types, we all have our own style riding that make us individual.
I was sold on the paid tour concept before this video, now I'm ready to get out my wallet...
Do you ever travel to British Columbia?
Bin tryin to talk my brother into this with you ! Gettin closer.....
How much for just 1 eveRide man-hug?
I'm in. Just need plane ticket for me and my Beta to US ;)
150-200.00 a night.thats one Awesome deal!
solo rider is now watching
Okay, sounds like a pretty good deal.
Sbarro pizza 🍕 sucks!!! Lol Nothing beats the advice and help of local natives
I muted it and watched the awesome scenery.
Hope to see you mid next year
Sales pitch for guided rides? Sure why not if you got the money.
anyone want to tour Japan? let me know xD
Woohoo my latest motovlog was so fun to make!! 🤣
I think its a waste of money. I dont know anyone who would pay to have someone take them around.
