    i'm an english hunter / jumper rider, and i honestly think that cutting is one of the neatest things i've seen a horse do. i can't even imagine how much practice and finesse that requires. very cool!

    What a great cutting horse! I just lost mine at 30 yrs old, He had some arthritis in his shoulders at about 20, but chondroitin and glucosamine relieved it and he was sound and able to trail ride til he passed! Love quarter horses... such big hearts~

    This is honestly the most fascinating thing I've seen in a while. I've heard of "cow sense" in ranch type quarter horses, but I never thought seeing it would be this clear! I love how much this horse enjoys it's job. I primarily ride western/english pleasure, but I NEED to try cutting someday!

  • @skorchnak9194
    @skorchnak9194 9 ปีที่แล้ว +235

    If you've ever ridden a cutting horse, you don't really "hold on" with the saddle horn, most of the movements are too fast and strong - generally you may need the horn to push yourself back off your horses forehand so you're not "in his way." You just point out the cow, the rest is up to your horse (they get into it).

    • @beckanadow
      @beckanadow 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Cutting is a blast on a good horse! As for those who see abuse at rodeos and competition; most put on by NCHA,ACHA, and other working Western competitions work hard hours to make sure the animals are not aboard stressed or harmed. I've seen competitors given disqualifying scores because they were too rough on a cow or horse.

    • @joewayne9951
      @joewayne9951 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Push back on the horn and hold on hahaha it’s only type of ridding I’ve done except team pinning I got a cat horse that would compete with this one for sure but with cutting it’s all a judging points game

      I love the roan colours. My own isn't a roan since I chose him for skills and character, not looks, but my fiancee just wanted an easy-going one for leisure riding, so I got her one that was neither particularly fast or otherwise skilled, but a calm, gentle nature with a lovely red dun roan colour. So yeah, not exactly a good horse from a competition perspective, he's pretty :)

      @Ye Olde Horsemanship Channel Not a barrel racer, just enjoy the union of horse and rider--which cutting and barrel-racing represents. Bronc & bull riding could be okay if they didn't use sometimes-cruel methods to force the animals to buck.
      Calf roping is a difficult one--unfortunately, I have seen far too many calves get injured from this, although watching a good roping horse work is a pleasure.

What amazes me is the amount of non aids related communication between rider and horse and how much the horse does itself because it certainly isn't anything to do with the riders hands. His leg work and level of trust between the horse and rider must be amazing. I would want to live my life again if I could be taught to do this by someone like this rider! I rode all time growing up, mostly with just a bareback saddle, a pad and stirrups so no horn. I used a western saddle when the horse was tall so I could get that extra little pull up, otherwise it kinda got in the way as I loved to lay out across the horses neck on a full gallop. Sure miss the small town rodeos that were everywhere when I was young, most arenas are gone and few rodeos left in Washington state where I live.
