Love the dark meat. So much flavor. I like to put the legs in to make my broth and take out when just barely done. Then pull meat and can with broth for soups, chicken pot pie or chicken and dumplings. Just add veggies, thicken and I'm done. Just me so I make little pies and freeze extra. I have to can broth in a hurry before I drink it all. So yummy.

What’s life without chicken soup? In my house we have chicken soup when someone is sick or life is a bit stressful. When that happens I run to the kitchen and make chicken soup and biscuits, don’t ask me why I just do. Life seems much better after a hot bowl of chicken soup made with lots of love! ♥️

My mother taught me how to cut up whole chickens as a teenager. Its been such a blessing that she did and its so easy to do! A whole chicken is cheaper than cut up chicken. And even pieces with the bone is cheaper than boneless so its worth learning how to do it. Mom also taught me how to pull the skin off using a paper towel in your hand to grasp the skin. That way you can pull the skin right off without it slipping around in your hand. Priceless lessons we can learn from our moms!

I'd consider deboning chicken breast since dark meat isn't my favorite. I got 2 10lb bags of leg quarters early this summer .79lb. I stuffed them in my instant pot and cooked till meat was falling off bone. I picked the meat off and added cooked breast to the mix. I used it to can soups for winter. I used the bones to make broth, 10qts from each bag! For broth I pressure cook for 3 hours to get the most out of the bones and make the most broth!

After 3 hours in the pressure cooker do the bones fall apart?

I just made 12 pts of turkey broth and 10 pts of Beef broth from bones and veggie scraps that I keep in the freezer. We get. the chicken quarters at the store. They are still under a dollar a pound. Thanks for sharing.

i always wanted to see the machine they use, to send us the 8 pc chicken boxes, someone said it's like a band saw.
anyway... I was more like this when I lived with Dad. Did this all the time, thighs packed to freezer in two's or three's.
Sale prices were good then. But Dad's gone. The rest of the story..

I roasted and canned 4 of our chickens two days ago along with an 8# turkey breast, yesterday I made the stock, and today I canned 3 gallons of golden perfection. Waste nothing.

2.49/lb jumbo wing pack, that's 1 dollar more than one prepared fried chicken wing at your local deli.

What is bone broth? How is it different from regular chicken broth? I'm confused. You did a really great job of severing, deboning, and making tidy looking pieces of chicken. I buy and debone my own chicken thighs. I loving having the skin on but not necessarily wanting the bone in. It all depends on what I'm making. If you could share with me about the bone broth I would really appreciate it! Hugs, Penny Sue

Bone broth is cooked longer to extract all the yummy goodness from the bones where as regular broth is cooks long enough to flavor the water. I plan to do a video on bone broth soon.
