I bought the Tab S7+ at the beginning of January and LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A GAME CHANGER THIS IS FOR ME!!! I'm a TH-camr who likes to stream, and having the second screen off to the side literally saves my life in helping me to read comments, operate OBS, and just makes my life relatively much easier instead of having all those things jumbled up on my screen. Also saves me a butt load of money from getting a second monitor which I have no space for and would just sit there not being used 99% of the time. I tried using it with Photoshop and Blender, but for whatever reason my S-pen wasn't registering. I'm pretty sure I checked all the features but maybe I clicked "Video Playback" instead of "Drawing/Gaming" 🤔 Unlikely but I'll still check! 😅 The feature is way to good at what it does and for me the colours look damn near dead similar to my laptop screen, if not better. Yes, there are issues of disconnection but that happens so rarely (only like twice for me so far). And I've experienced ZERO lag. Just a great all around feature!! 💕💖💫
Oh, thanks for that! I generally didn't know you could do that and just leave the speakers because it's sounds great, but also when I'm using the second screen features mode it's generally when I'm streaming and my microphone highjacks the audio. So I see it as the tablet highjacking it back 😅
some comment on the previous video said that they got better experience with app called super display instead of this secon screen.. it seems like the latency is way more minimal with that app
Superdisplay works via USB, but do note that it hasn't been updated since 2020. Works absolutely fine, but there's almost no chance for new features. Their website is still up, so drivers are available from the legitimate source.
The connection uses Bluetooth, so even if there's no WiFi the connection is still stable (for me anyway). I've tried a lot of secondary apps before getting this tablet and they all sucked big time. I don't experience any latency, but granted, my device is the S7+ so it probably had enough updates to get it working beyond good. Hope that helps! 💕
I actually preordered the Tab S8+ with this feature in mind to REPLACE my display tablrt. I had a display tablet at my desk, but I was super interested in drawing on my bed and outside my desk (without lugging around my laptop + drawing tablet + stand). However, as someone very used to using keyboard shortcuts, I found the drawing experience on the Tab S8+ to be very strange. I kept reaching for keyboard shirt cuts that weren't there, and small things like undoing or erasing became much slower. I finished a short sketch, and ended up returning the Tab S8+ the next day. I DID also try using the android CSP app, but compared to drawing using the desktop app, it felt clunky (for a lot of the same reasons the dual screen function didn't work for me) Overall, I wouldn't recommend for desktop app artists, unless you don't have a display tablet (or other circumstances that warrant use of the other features of a Tab). I carry my laptop everywhere, so using the Tab S8 just felt like a downgrade.
I like how this allows using the Affinity apps (installed on my Dell Precision 7760 Windows 11 laptop) on my Samsung Tab S7+. I recently bought a 2021 12.9” iPad Pro to get access to Procreate and the Affinity apps though. Thanks for always providing great content, Brad!
@Ayub Prakoso I'm a normal "Android" user and only bouight the iPad for using Procreate and the Affinity apps. I knew that Clip Studio Paint (CSP) and Sketchbook were also available on iPad, so my original thought was to "phase out" the Samsung tablet for drawing purposes. The IOS version of CSP doesn't currently allow the Tabmate (which I have and love using with my S7+ and desk Huion tablets). The IOS version also doesn't incorporate the recent smartphone "remote screen" that was recently added to CSP. Not sure if any of that will change in the future. It's frustrating, because I clearly don't need two mobile tablets. Samsung is clearly working with MicroSoft (for collaboration with Windows to compete with Apple). I'm also a Windows user (not Mac). So, other than Procreate and having Affinity included on a Tablet, I would have simply stuck with the Samsung tablet. Had I not bought the iPad, I would have easily done the Tab S8 Ultra upgrade (trading in my S7+). For now, I'm using the iPad for Procreate, Affinity and Luma Fusion ... and the Samsung S7+ for CSP and all of my other business needs. (I'm an engineer by education and occupation).
I tried this out with my S7+, and it worked well with most programs when attached to my Yoga 720. In Storyboard Pro, though, I could choose either pressure sensitivity or touch controls by activating or deactivating WinTab. They couldn't both work at the same time for whatever reason. So I think some features may be hit or miss depending on the app.
I cant see the forest through the trees here anymore. Am looking for a tablet with features below. I want it to be able to - run windows - & or be used as a second-monitor/remote-monitor without lag main usage: - sculpting in blender. - large note taking - typing fast notes (hence keyboard attachment) must have: - Quality pen tracking for drawing/sculpting The reason i am commenting on this video is because i bet this tech is going to improve over time. Just like how VR Headseats Airlink has improved. But i cannot figure out what i need to buy from all the choice. I don't mind paying 1100-1300 USD for it.
Hey there - I just wanted to say I'm really appreciating your tech reviews lately. Early on, it felt like you didn't quite have as heavy a tech background as I do (I was testing for Corel and Alias and Curious Labs back in the 90s - I've been digital a long time) but even then, having someone who's a working artist review tech is so much more valuable than having someone who's a tech genius but has no experience with using it as an artist. So I guess I'm saying your tech reviews have always had value for me, but I feel like you're constantly improving, and I appreciate it. Thank you. I'm quite looking forward to when my S8 ultra pre order arrives. :)
@@AlexandreG God damn, that's a wildly low threshold for "self praise", if "you're better at this, I'm better at that" is all it takes to trigger you. :)

1. can you list all the tablest this works with? Are there any that this works better with? 2. how are you connecting to the laptop? Wifi? USB to USB-C cable? Bluetooth? 3. are you going to review the app alternatives (superdisplay) and do these apps only work on s8 ultra? Do they work on the s7+? the s6 lite?
Yeah, I'm gonna need you to stop making me want that Tab S8 Ultra. My 2018 iPad Pro 11" is working fine and I'm not yet ready to take the financial hit to finally abandon Apple for good.
The degradation in image quality might be bacause computers output the data as 4:2:2 while consumer displays all use 4:2:0(more compressed, originally used by tv stations)
I looked around for an answer but didn't see it anywhere. Whenever someone asks online most of the comments tell them to use a different app 🤣 So I'm assuming no.
@@thebradcolbow Please check out the SuperDisplay app ($10). You can connect via cable and the experience is much better (higher resolution, 120hz, nearly imperceptible lag).
I got tab S8 ultra 10 days ago, as a replacement for Huion pen display, which takes too much space and is too large for me, and I am amazed. I use Super display app and it works really good, especially when using a cable, I can't even notice lag, although I mostly sculpt in zbrush. It's great that is so portable and light comparing to any graphic tablet/display. And yeah, S pen and pressure sensitivity are great too.
I am a professional artist, but I looking for a easy and light way to travel with my computer and be able to do my professional work, does this solution works as good as a wacom cintiq or huion?
I think you may have just saved my bacon Brad! I'm new to graphic design and was going to start a startup on Etsy selling large canvas drawing for posters. So i bought the Tab S8 Plus only to realise much later that I can't create a canvas at 300 DPI at A1 size, im guessing due to the 8gb ram. That really killed my motivation and thought I just wasted a bunch of money for a drawing tablet. However I've just come across this video and I do have a pretty powerful laptop which I realise I can now use to mirror the screen to the tablet and draw in photoshop using my s-pen. Thank you so much for this video. Motivation has been restored!!
I wish they made it like the lenovo one where you could basically use it with any HDMI device. It's pretty nice if you want a bigger screen on the go for something like a nintendo switch.
You should try Super display. its about $10 but works really great. IT worked a lot better for me than this second screen did. Tested with Clip studio, krita and Blender.
hey man, as other people in the comments have stated, it would be cool if u reviewed superdisplay, the app itself seems promising but there isn't a proper review out there for it, not by someone that has had the chance of reviewing many display tablets like u.
I got the Samsung Tab S6 and the latest update unfortunately doesn't have the second screen feature. It would've been cool to play around with, but it's not worth upgrading for so I guess I'm stuck with my ancient screenless graphics tablet for photoshop use.
It's very hidden, there are videos on it on YT: go to Smart View, to definitions, about, there click "Smart View" a few times... Hidden features appear including "Start Second Screen". Revolting how they hide features on such expensive hardware that clearly should handle that.
Hi brad, love your channel great to see someone into tech from a digital artists perspective, just throwing this up there, have you heard of the Asus Rog z13 tablet?, its this crazy powerful tablet that admittingly is pretty expensive but is pretty intense with the power put into it but havent found any reviews on the tablets pen capabilities, as someone whos a digital artist and a casual gamer this could be the best of both worlds, just a thought

Hi Brad. Why was the image filling the fill screen while at other times you had black bars on top and at the bottom? Do you have control over resolution? do you have control of image scaling like you can on standard windows displays?
Does Samsung offer a second screen feature like this for the Fold? If so, I'd be very interested in knowing how well that could work. Would potentially be a great on-the-go laptop/tablet combo.
I just got my tab s8 ultra last night and it's wonderful for an artist. I looked at this tab as a bigger canvas. Can you run any windows program on the tab like zbrush and Ai . Corel painter using second screen ?.if so i probably wont need my cintiq anymore. thanks for the video. I love your style of art.
Even latest wacom intuos pro pen tablet lags heavily compared to direct wired connection. I wonder what difference a wired bandwith would make. I read others in comments discussing superdisplay; i wonder how much better it would be and how 3d apps behave w pressure for sculpting/modeling.
It’s pretty easy to get good at blender if you can’t draw. I’d say download it, it’s free, and check out blender guru. I think being a photographer helps more than being an artist.
Iv tested it out with grease pencil and sculpting...like brad says it works and presure sensitivty is great .Its not better then a usb graphic tab but is good enough and way better then using a mouse.
Can u review huion kamvas 16 2.5k Can you see pixels in that. I mean do I have to buy the 4k version or this 2.5k version as screen is not 22 inches. So can I get by with 2.5k
Have you ever tried a Monoprice pen display drawing tablet? They have a 15in one for $200, and a 21in for $270 and I'm curious about the quality to the price. Their $50 non-display tablet I've had since 2014 is still going strong and from what I can tell does a great job. I wonder if the Creator 16/22 would be a good upgrade choice or if I should go with a different brand for better quality around the same price. Or if another one of their pen displays (with express keys like my $50 one!) should be the way to go.
Hi Brad, I don't know if it would be too much trouble if you could do a review of the Chuwi hippad pro 10.8 inches; It seemed to me an interesting economic alternative and that it could face the samsung galaxy tab s6 lite, but unfortunately I did not find any in-depth review of the stylus as you do
Even if you have an older tablet like I, I have a Galaxy Tab 6 Lite, if you use a connection via a USB-C cable you will have less lag. The biggest problem here is the screen size.
I don't know what to choose for start 😳 I need device with screen for drawing and design, I don't have any experience yet. Looking for average cost... 500$ or near that
Hello Mr.@Brad Colbow, First of all , thank you very much for this review ! I would like to buy a tablet as a second monitor and use it to draw and annotate on MS office aplications such as powerpoint, word and pdf docs,. would you please advice me if the galaxy tab S7 is suitable for this ? Thank you very much
I found that superdisplay's latency was better when wired, I'm not sure how 2nd screen compares to the wifi mode of superdisplay, maybe you could compare.
The tablet is good. I'll just suggest you one more time to test it with superdisplay and a cable. Just to test it as a cintiq to the maximum. Those wireless connections are a mess. The s6 works smooth with this app, and it would be nice to know if the same happens with this tablet before buying it because it maybe doesn't work as well because there might there be many factors such as the resolution of the screen, idk. It would be just nice to see if this one works really well like that, because it would be kind of an "exponential upgrade". Because of the price too, it might be more expensive that a huion tablet for example, but it's more resolution and the size is similar, and it's also a tablet, you can disconnect it and rean manga or comics in a magazine size screen.
I've seen a video showing this feature with Wifi disabled, it should be using Wi-Fi Direct instead of being connected to a router. It looks like the lag problem is solved with this method/fix, but i couldn't test it myself as i didn't buy it yet. Can you confirm it?
If it connects over the network's WiFi then I can't use it since I'm 100% on the road so I'll end up using SuperDisplay. I'll probably end up getting the 12GB for the extra storage. Was planning on getting a Tab S7 and a separate 15" drawing display, but the Ultra should work for what I want to do.
There's bunch of open sources repositories out there to make this happened... I think superDisplay creator which is the paid app that take full advantage of compiling it in 2020. I was wondering where did he go since 2021, there's no new updates for the software... I think we know where he is and who offered him a contract...
Do you have any idea what specs of the wifi it needs to make it smoother? I have an s8+ but when I'm using second screen it has some lags. Well I mainly use it as my third monitor I don't know if that affects the lag

@@faizahmohammedaruwa ah ok, cool, thanks!
I DID also try using the android CSP app, but compared to drawing using the desktop app, it felt clunky (for a lot of the same reasons the dual screen function didn't work for me)
Overall, I wouldn't recommend for desktop app artists, unless you don't have a display tablet (or other circumstances that warrant use of the other features of a Tab). I carry my laptop everywhere, so using the Tab S8 just felt like a downgrade.
The Super display app on play store lets you program marcos on screen buttons for this use
SuperDisplay and a USB cable! Pls test!
Possibly the best app I've ever bought.
@@EngineerRon hope android gets procreate soon
affinity photo on iPad isn’t worth it yet tbh it’s mid and I do big projects on photoshop close though but not close enough
Thanks , helpful info. Hope that changes.
Is there any lag/delay when you draw?
Not much, if any.
To get past the speaker issue. You just go to the volume control in the task bar and change the output back to your preferred speakers.
I cant see the forest through the trees here anymore.
Am looking for a tablet with features below.
I want it to be able to
- run windows
- & or be used as a second-monitor/remote-monitor without lag
main usage:
- sculpting in blender.
- large note taking
- typing fast notes (hence keyboard attachment)
must have:
- Quality pen tracking for drawing/sculpting
The reason i am commenting on this video is because i bet this tech is going to improve over time.
Just like how VR Headseats Airlink has improved.
But i cannot figure out what i need to buy from all the choice.
I don't mind paying 1100-1300 USD for it.
SuperDisplay android app it's a good option for any tablet with s-pen support.
Goddamnit, that was a lot of self praise 🥴
@@AlexandreG God damn, that's a wildly low threshold for "self praise", if "you're better at this, I'm better at that" is all it takes to trigger you. :)
Been counting days and waiting for this. Thank-you so much Brad ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Would love more videos like this. I really want to know how to make my iPad my only drawing tool, but I need to use pc apps for work. Maybe another Astropad/Duet Pro 2022 review?
1. can you list all the tablest this works with?
I, might plan on upgrading to this eventually, instead of the... S6 Lite
Might
Can you connect it with cable?
I think with that there be no lag
I looked around for an answer but didn't see it anywhere. Whenever someone asks online most of the comments tell them to use a different app 🤣
So I'm assuming no.
@@thebradcolbow Please check out the SuperDisplay app ($10). You can connect via cable and the experience is much better (higher resolution, 120hz, nearly imperceptible lag).
Compare it to superbrush app on android!
Are you using Clip Studio?
I got tab S8 ultra 10 days ago, as a replacement for Huion pen display, which takes too much space and is too large for me, and I am amazed. I use Super display app and it works really good, especially when using a cable, I can't even notice lag, although I mostly sculpt in zbrush. It's great that is so portable and light comparing to any graphic tablet/display. And yeah, S pen and pressure sensitivity are great too.
I am a professional artist, but I looking for a easy and light way to travel with my computer and be able to do my professional work, does this solution works as good as a wacom cintiq or huion?
Thank you! I was just looking for this kind of video!
Do you think this is better then the wireless version of easy canvas on the ipad?
Is the tab s7 fe the wifi only version?
Exactly the video I needed to justify preordering the ultra haha!
Hey Brad, your videos are literally THE BEST your name pops up in the result of searching ANY question i always have :)))
Great deep dive into this feature. Interesting how well it works. Are you going to test Clip Studio Paint too, with a phone for the menus and such?
I have the Galaxy Tab S8+. How do I display Samsung Dex ONLY on my television and NOT the tablet itself?
Man, because of this video i really considering selling my ipad for S8 tab.
You should try Super display. its about $10 but works really great. IT worked a lot better for me than this second screen did. Tested with Clip studio, krita and Blender.
So is this the photoshop app? Which are the differences to the normal ps?
hey man, as other people in the comments have stated, it would be cool if u reviewed superdisplay, the app itself seems promising but there isn't a proper review out there for it, not by someone that has had the chance of reviewing many display tablets like u.
Hi ever since your S8 ultra Review, I had My heart set for it
But my funds said I had to wait for this video to come out to be really sure
I got the Samsung Tab S6 and the latest update unfortunately doesn't have the second screen feature. It would've been cool to play around with, but it's not worth upgrading for so I guess I'm stuck with my ancient screenless graphics tablet for photoshop use.
It's very hidden, there are videos on it on YT: go to Smart View, to definitions, about, there click "Smart View" a few times... Hidden features appear including "Start Second Screen".
Revolting how they hide features on such expensive hardware that clearly should handle that.
@@Gandulo123 Got it working, thanks for the hint. That feature was practically impossible to find without a tutorial.
My Tab A7 and S6 Lite has Second Screen too-though Samsung hides it on these in a hidden menu accessed via Smart View.
Hello Brad, thank you , can you update this video with the current update? And also with super display app?
Hi brad, love your channel great to see someone into tech from a digital artists perspective, just throwing this up there, have you heard of the Asus Rog z13 tablet?, its this crazy powerful tablet that admittingly is pretty expensive but is pretty intense with the power put into it but havent found any reviews on the tablets pen capabilities, as someone whos a digital artist and a casual gamer this could be the best of both worlds, just a thought
Awesome....for Artists and Designers 🤓...Watching and learning on my Tab S7 11"...
SuperDisplay a $10 app in the Play store works a lot better than Second Screen.
Do you think the lag is because the way the tablet was connect, or because of the ram, or graphics from either way?
Do you people think a samsung pro 360 is a good idea? I was looking for a replacement for my old laptop and a drawing tablet in one.
now would you prefer this for drawing compared to the ipad
Извините, не могли бы вы мне помочь? Как включить давление стилуса после подключения планшета в качестве второго дисплея? Стилус функционирует, но нет давления или наклона.
Need to tell us what your network setup is like. Are you on WiFi 5, 6, or 6e
Hi Brad. Why was the image filling the fill screen while at other times you had black bars on top and at the bottom? Do you have control over resolution? do you have control of image scaling like you can on standard windows displays?
Thanks for the great videos! How does projecting to this device compare with projecting to another windows device?
Is second screen work for macOS? Or is it Windows exclusive feature?
Which app you use for drawing?
I’m curious to see how it performs using a direct USB cable 🤔
( if it does support that )
+1
It does not support that, yet, if at all.
second screen also works with windows tablets laptops to other windows laptops
it works with any windows computer or display device (tablets, smart tv & display, smartphones, etc)
Samsung is doing great. I hope the android apps accelerate as well. Where are you, Adobe????
I really think you should take a look at Light Brush. It's a new painting web app.
Does Samsung offer a second screen feature like this for the Fold? If so, I'd be very interested in knowing how well that could work. Would potentially be a great on-the-go laptop/tablet combo.
It's not officially available but they left a beta version of it hidden in the software
Yay the deep dive video, awesome! 👏
Thank you for this, Can you make a video regarding video editing with this feature. Thank you in advance
Hi :). Quick question. Would you be reviewing the new Huawei Matebook E 2in1? Ty.
Hi! Does your drawing experience make blender easier for you to use? Do you think someone who can’t draw could still use blender easily?
It’s pretty easy to get good at blender if you can’t draw. I’d say download it, it’s free, and check out blender guru. I think being a photographer helps more than being an artist.
Iv tested it out with grease pencil and sculpting...like brad says it works and presure sensitivty is great .Its not better then a usb graphic tab but is good enough and way better then using a mouse.
huion wh1409 v2 vs xp pen deco pro m which one should i buy?
Hmmm... Brad, can you draw in Blender when using Second Screen? If so, how good or bad is the lag there?
I'm gonna use this on my stream setup
Can u review huion kamvas 16 2.5k
Can you see pixels in that.
Can you use this feature with a wired connection to reduce the lantency or its just for wireless connection?
Hi Brad, I don't know if it would be too much trouble if you could do a review of the Chuwi hippad pro 10.8 inches; It seemed to me an interesting economic alternative and that it could face the samsung galaxy tab s6 lite, but unfortunately I did not find any in-depth review of the stylus as you do
Even if you have an older tablet like I, I have a Galaxy Tab 6 Lite, if you use a connection via a USB-C cable you will have less lag. The biggest problem here is the screen size.
Did your photoshop brush tool works in s6 lite?
I don't know what to choose for start 😳 I need device with screen for drawing and design, I don't have any experience yet. Looking for average cost... 500$ or near that
I'm still here waiting until April for delivery in UK
Hello Mr.@Brad Colbow,
First of all , thank you very much for this review !
In terms of the lag - you can use the USB cable and it's MILES faster.
Does the pressure sensitivity of the S pen still work on the second screen?
the issue with samsung is that if you use a demanding app it overheats quickly does it overheat with the second screen feature?
You literally answered my burning question about replacing a wacom tablet for this
What about Astropad? Does it work better than Sidecar?
I think mobile hotspot works too
But you could use your smartphones 3g ?
it doesn't use WiFi network. It's just wirelesss between the tablet and the computer.
somehow my Tablet's pen pressure doesn't work when I do this how do I fix this? Is there another driver I must install?
Is there anyway to do this without installing anything on my PC? My company has my laptop on lockdown...
Can you connect it via the usb C and eliminate the lag ?
I can't seem to find any info in this: Can you attach the Tab S8 Ultra as a second screen to a Mac? Everyone is only reviewing on Windows...
Does Macbook have bluetooth ?
Cz in windows we use win key + k
There's bunch of open sources repositories out there to make this happened... I think superDisplay creator which is the paid app that take full advantage of compiling it in 2020.
I was wondering where did he go since 2021, there's no new updates for the software... I think we know where he is and who offered him a contract...
Brad... listen... there's a new painting software, it's called Light Brush. You've got to take a look at it. (It's a web app)
Hey, Brad! Thanks for another informative video. Can you show us how Second Screen works with Serif Affinity Designer? Much appreciated!
Do you have any idea what specs of the wifi it needs to make it smoother? I have an s8+ but when I'm using second screen it has some lags. Well I mainly use it as my third monitor I don't know if that affects the lag
Which app do you use on s8 for animation
This is wireless, right?
What about 5g versus wifi, or does this feature use a cable?
Wireless between the two device. 5g and wifi doesn't have anything to do with this. Yes, you can output to a USB-C cable
