    Hi, I have a trx250ex with a sports clutch and I can’t get it to go on 1 gear plus and the clutch is very hard. Any repair videos you have on this issue.

      If you've adjusted and lubed the clutch cable, then you need to inspect the clutch itself.

    My clutch won't engage. Should I replace the actual clutch or buy the clutch kit

      It could be the actuator, the clutch, the plates...It will require inspection.

    @Partzilla.com I have a 03 400ex I installed a HMF full exhaust system and the clutch cable sits right against the head pipe and gets melted. There’s no other way to reroute it, is there a longer cable option for this model to fix my issue. I’ve searched the internet and a lot of other’s seem to have this same problem.

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There might be an aftermarket solution or you can have the cables custom made from a shop. Have you tried just zip tying it to pull it off the header?

    i just replace the clutch today and the clutch cable has to much slack. so i came to this video to find out what to adjust and i tried to do what this video was telling me but i have so much slack that the clutch feel like its not even working and i can take the fine adjustment and the course adjustment right out of their place while trying to tighten the clutch.. this is after doing the clutch replacement

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have a 2001 400ex and when I take off in first I have maybe 1 inch left before it takes off and when im shifting up from there it revs up all the way and then catches. Do I just need to adjust the clutch or replace it ?

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always try adjusting it first. If you are out of adjustment room, and it's still not engaging properly, it could be a stretched cable.

    the clutch on my 01 400ex is extremely hard to pull. I can do it fine for like 20 minutes of riding then it fatigues my hand to the point where i can't even pull it in 1/4. Any ideas? dirty cable?

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be my first place to look as it's usually the culprit.. www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-22870-HN1-000.html

  • @gluestikce1023

    Do you have to do all of that if you're just replacing the clutch?

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Glue Stikce Not all of that is necessary. I wanted to cover all the angles. Because I replaced the clutch lever, the zero point (the fine almost all the way in) required a reset on the course adjustment (the pinch bolts on the clutch cover bracket). If you are merely adjusting the fine adjustment where there is plenty of threads (more than 5 turns), you don't have to mess with the course. Thanks for the question. John

    • @gluestikce1023
      @gluestikce1023 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Partzilla.com Im just replacing the clutch lever cause there is some wiggle room but will i have to take out the slack in the line if i do replace it? The one i have currently is quite hard to pull back how do i fix that?

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Glue Stikce You will need to adjust the course if there is less than 5 turns left on the fine. The difficulty on the pull can be due to two possibilities: 1.) The cable itself has dried out and needs replacement. 2.) The clutch drum or basket is worn to the point they have those "steps" I mention in the clutch replacement video.
      My bet is that it will be the cable. Disconnect it from the lever and see if you can move it freely back and forth , if it is really stiff, then that's you culprit. www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-22870-HN1-A40.html

      Partzilla it just jerk you forward before it dies

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, so either your cable is so stretched or damaged it isn't disengaging the clutch or your clutch pack might be stuck. If you can't get it to work by messing with the cable, you might have to pull off the cover and inspect the internal lever or the clutch itself.

    • @sg6722

    Curious would clutch cable keep quad from downshifting while riding. I can upshift fine but the shifter has to come up to downshift.

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way the cable would affect downshifting is if it is not disengaging the clutch. Most bikes/ATVs are straight cut trannys, so you can upshift without the clutch. Downshifting requires you to blip the throttle to match rpms with the gearing. When you pull in the clutch while in gear, does the quad want to roll forward still?

    • @corey20052005
      @corey20052005 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No once clutch is pulled in it doesn't roll anymore. The shift lever had a return spring to the frame. I swapped for a tusk shifter . It doesn't hit anything but it doesn't return to position it would if spring was attached to frame still. Its a 2004 400ex alot of people say they don't have return springs on lever but mines looked OEM.

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the link. #10. If that spring broke or isn't working right, it will cause an issue with reset. I would check that.

    • @PartzillaParts

      The clutch cable choice should have nothing to do with the type of clutch plates in the basket.
