    Hi Jeff, first of all thanks for your informative educational content, they are my favorite recently. I am in the middle of the decision process as you'd expect, and Pella Impervia and Miglard Tuscany are on my short list (will have casement windows). Milgard however has advantage here in WA since they have factory in Tacoma, WA and they have heavy presence in Seattle area. Pella salesperson said that Jan is the earliest installation date, while Milgard seem to have sooner times.
    I am debating between Impervia and Tuscany and concerned about your comment on another video about Milgard having issues recently after the acquisition. Which of the 2 options (Impervia vs Tuscany) is the higher quality in your opinion?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching. The Milgard Tuscany and the Pella Impervia are two different types of material. It's difficult to compare the two. The Pella Impervia is by far a much better material, and it uses the same glass as the Milgard does. For me, the Pella Impervia would win this debate every time.
      Since these windows can last 30 or more years, the lead time is not really a reason to make a decision. Go with the better product and be willing to wait for it.

No huge pass through holes like a traditional cinder block to lighten them up. . Kind of like a large brick but made of cement. Thank you for asking...

    Appreciate all of the helpful youtube content as I'm currently in the market to replace a number of windows. Question - would prices on Impervia windows have changed much since mid-2021? Also, any thoughts on how much pricing (including installation) could vary in other parts of the country, for instance a market like Washington, DC?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and for your comment. Actually, I'm not sure what that could be other than the plunger itself having too much resistance from the spring that is behind it. I would contact Pella to have them come out and fix it. They do offer labor for the first two years of your window ownership in their warranty work. This should cost you nothing to repair.

    Is it possible to clean the outside of these windows from the inside? On previous casement designs, in the fully-opened position there typically was 4-5" gap on the hinge side, allowing for cleaning. But these new Impervia Casement 2.0 windows appear to open with no gap on the hinge side. Just curious if there's any easy way to clean the outside of these windows.

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's called a "wash hinge" and it allows the sash to continue to pivot to the point where the outer pane can be cleaned from inside the house. The Pella Impervia casement does not have that feature.

    • @tonym2432
      @tonym2432 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pella Impervia 2.0 Casement window can be ordered only with "side pivot" hardware if you select the EZ Slide operator, however you can order the Impervia with a traditional crank handle with "wash hinge" hardware. In short you can order Impervia configured for easier cleaning from interior.

    Hi Jeff,
    Please do forgive any of my questions that I know will sound somewhat ignorant.
    Does the term 'Casement' technically mean 'Single Glass' window, (nothing but glass and frame) ?
    I ask because it is Exactly what I wanted all the (replacement) windows in my house to be.
    I just didn't know how to Say It !
    It's now, unfortunately too late as all measurements were taken, All windows were ordered, and we're just waiting for an installation date.
    All glass is what I wanted, Double Hung is what I believe was ordered.
    I Hate to say it, but I think having my Husband negotiating with our Window Company was my mistake.
    He's a kind of, 'Pick something out, and get on with it, Extremely Impatient sort of a Guy !
    He is the one that They have been Communicating with throughout the entire process.
    I am much more patient and interested in getting what I truly had in mind. (and Definitely not shy about asking questions).
    It's my misfortune I simply didn't know What to ask, (technical terms etc.), and consequently now feel I allowed myself to be rushed into something that is Indeed A Major Undertaking and will end up feeling disappointed with the results.
    Anyway, I would like to know, can this New Casement Replacement window open 'Inwards' for cleaning purposes ?
    If not, I'm not clear as to why it needs to open at all ?
    And, are They more expensive than Double Hung Windows ?
    I'm a Big Believer in, "You Get What You Pay For". (Taught to Me, by My Mother 😏 !)
    Thanks for the Video Jeff.

      JaneLee, I'm sorry to hear that you may not be getting what you really wanted. Can you call the window company and see if they've started the process yet?
      A casement is all glass and swings outward instead of up and down. It's is hinged like a door would be. The screen is on the inside and that's nice to have.
      Please note that a casement is about 50% more money than a double hung and can not be made in really large sizes.
      All the best!!

      Thanks SO Much for replying to me Jeff. (and so quickly !)
      I'm afraid it is too late. As far as my Husband is concerned anyway.
      We Are actually getting the Casement Windows in the Kitchen.
      (Double - side by side),They will open inwards so I can clean them from inside.
      Just after the Owner of our Window Company was here for Final measurements, I got to thinking 🤔, would it be possible to have a Casement Window in the Bathroom in our Bedroom. I Think it would be considered a Small window, and I thought a 'Single' window like the 'Double' one in the Kitchen is going to be, would be perfect for the bathroom window.
      I told my Husband my idea, but He said it was Too late, They've already measured, and - Well - NO 😟.
      With the exception of a Sliding Door in the Kitchen, (there was one there when we bought the house, but it has So much condensation between the glass you can barely see through it), and a Bay Window in the Living Room, (there's a Bow window there now), All other Window's in the house are, what I am only able to describe as of Average/Normal/Ordinary size.
      My idea, and the only way I knew to describe it was, I wanted The Most amount of Glass, and The Least amount of Frame Possible, (which is what the Casement Windows seem to be).
      Oh Well, I'm Sure I'll be Happy with what we will be getting. 😊
      I'm very appreciative of You taking the time to reply, and explaining to me what a Casement Window is.
      Sincerely,

      JaneLee, from my recent research on windows, I think "direct set" is the type you had in mind, as opposed to single hung, double hung, or casement, etc. In direct set there are no fixed or operable sashes; the glass is set directly into the frame. The drawback is you cannot open it, so you can't clean it from inside, but it will give the most amount of glass area possible. I know this is too late for you to use this information, but perhaps it can help someone else.

    We are currently in the Installation process. Our lock arms are not allowing the window to actually open. Even if we adjust the adjustable receivers they will still be to high. Is there away to adjust the arms so the window functions properly. I noticed in your video you said you would need to make some adjustments. It also looked like you had to adjust them as well when opening the casement Initially. We have new construction windows. We literally can not open them with out physically touching the arms. And with a screen in that would make it impossible.
