    1. 1:16 Eyes on foothold
    2. 3:35 Pull up and pull in when cutting feet (feet come off wall)
    3. 5:32 Flag for optimal body position (balance a right hand reach with a foot off to the left)
    4. 6:50 Read route

    • @johnbignold960
      @johnbignold960 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      If you are already saying 'this information' as if it's basic knowledge, this video isn't exactly suited for you. It's an enjoyable video, that not only provides helpful techniques. But more importantly, demonstrates how said techniques come into play whilst climbing.

    • @erstaples1
      @erstaples1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's also the fact that it's simply disrespectful, considering that this is basically cheating Geek Climber out of the work he put into producing the video. C'mon man.

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, right? I was so conditioned to keep my arms straight that it didn’t come to mind that I should pull in and up when my feet were cut.

  • @mralansmith
    @mralansmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bouldering
    1:10 1. eyes on foothold during foot placement.
    - Then I know my foot is placed correctly. I can move beyond with confidence.
    - Practice this during warmup, before fatigued
    2:50 2. During foot cut. As you cut, pull up and in with arms and put foot up. Don't let extended legs swing down.
    - Swinging out will be less. Effort to place feet back on the wall will be less.
    5:15 3. Flag for optimal body position
    - example. when i remove right hand, I swing to left and fall off. So flag to left to avoid swing.
    6:45 5. Route Reading
    - stand back and plan route before I start.

    One small tip for hand placement, once you grab the hold, hold it. Double checking your hold by shifting the hand and “making sure” youre on it good enough will waste energy. Theres videos out there on it. Take a look. Cheers

    The reason why he made you pull up while you were cutting is very simple, when you pull up your abs engage automaticly and that reduce the barn door A LOT !

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right!

    • @alexlina8937
      @alexlina8937 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha, barn door! awesome metaphor. such a coincidence, in Spanish we call it “la puertita” (literally “doorey”, if such a word existed)

    • @jp-wo6cq
      @jp-wo6cq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is untrue, you can do a pull up with 0 ab activation, the reason you pull up is because it will effectively shorten your body making it easier to control, notice paul mentioned the length your body has with straight arms

    Great stuff. Today was my first day climbing in two weeks, and I could feel that my route reading was off. My climbing sense started to come back after an hour or so.

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you like it! I usually just climbed and felt a route. I had no idea that this prevented me from making good progress because I wasted so much strength that I could’ve used on harder routes. I used to think route reading was just for people who did comps.

    • @realkylehooks
      @realkylehooks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geek Climber Both are great skills to build. Climbing without a read helps you really think on your feet, and reading a climb helps you climb efficiently. It's like reading sheet music vs playing jazz improv. Both are great

    Amazing video, I have always wanted to learn about the small details that separate elite climbers. These are not things you can just google! I'm sure these small details make a big difference long term and I look forward to incorporating them into my climbing. Keep up the great vids!

    sometimes it's good to just refresh the basics to pick up on bad habits you've acquired over the years. The watch your feet tip was a good example of this

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  6 ปีที่แล้ว
