  • We are days away from welcoming back all children who have chosen in-person instruction. For those of you who opted for your child to return, I would like to share with you some lessons that we have learned.
We continuously delve into the number of reported COVID cases in our District for insights on how to prevent spread and improve safety protocols. A recent review revealed an interesting fact that you may want to consider.
The number of positive cases among the 24,000 students back on campus is 0.14% percent. Through contact tracing, we determined that the students were exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school environment and there was no community transmission at the school.
Since launching our health protocols and contact tracing, we have been able to identify sick children early, isolate them, sanitize classrooms, and notify the appropriate parents and staff.
You have heard me say that re-opening schools is easy; however, keeping them open remains the challenge. We must be vigilant for as long as COVID remains in our community.
Thank you for reinforcing the importance of wearing masks, washing hands and thank you for screening your children each morning before school. Your continuing efforts help keep our schools open.
You can access our COVID-related information at www.neisd.net/. You will also find the District’s count of COVID-19 cases for the week posted when you click the top link.
Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you around the District.
