I'm not surprised at that 40% stat in the video title considering the decade we just had under LNP... They are a political party made up almost exclusively of elite private school alumni, so of course they're going to gear the system in favour of the private school sector. The last thing they want is an educated working-class and middle-class demographic...

Public schools need to be prioritised, the Gonski report needs to be implemented.

As if those aren't fully state funded with Federal grants too?

@@tjmarx lies. Government funding per public student = $21,000 per year, per private student = $14,000 per year.

Faith based private schools that isolate kids from interacting with other socioeconomic and cultural groups can only harm our society in the long run.
I also find it ironic that the private school is 'helping' that lady by providing her food parcels - for $5000 a year! Imagine what she could afford for her child if she wasn't forking out for that!
Studies have repeatedly shown there is no educational benefit of private schools, and that all purported benefits are cancelled out once the intake/selection bias is accounted for.
Private schooling is one of the biggest scams around, both for individuals, and for the government and taxpayers as a whole.

But the school does allow her to share beliefs that the regular world would "find offensive", that's why she is *too poor to buy food for her kid*

So just like public schools that enforce class-based zoning rules to exclude poor kids in poor suburbs from the best performing public schools that are exclusively attended by richer kids?

They are private schools for a reason - they should be privately funded.

Labor has to drop these changes on the education system like a fkn sledgehammer. We had 9 yrs of the LNP ripping the guts out of public schools while funnelling public money at private schools. Come on Albo. Step it up man!

    • @scotthillard3418

Lies. Why do you people lie all the time about this? Public schools receive more funding per capita ($21,000 vs $14,000) and more money overall ($55 Billion vs $17 billion) than private schools. Anyone can check those numbers on the ACARA funding portal.

And that's on a very generous notion that has no rational basis. Private schools have the lowest need, and they get fees. This should mean we at minimum account for fees and need and give some schools ZERO. There is no sensible reason we should fund private schools that charge fees. Fees exclude students that have the most need, and we even fund $40k/year schools. The gonski review was broken by Gillard requiring them to ensure no private school loses a dollar.. we shouldnt be funding private schools at all. Nationalise the lot.

Is it little surprise that after decades of unfair funding and derogatory remarks about public school and BS about values, that there are now almost 2 in 5 students in NSW off in their private school bubble. And is it any surprise that we seem to be seeing a more uncaring society in the wake of this. Public schools are for everyone, want to raise the standard - do it in public schools.

"more than they need" is the key here because we all know that private schools use a lot more resources than public schools and the funding they need to maintain all their facilities, that public school kids can only dream of, is much higher than public schools. There are private schools with swimming pools and mental health wings most of them are funded by the government. Every politician should be forced to send their kids to the worst performing public school in their electorate.

My foster kid got expelled in preprimary and year 2 from private schools. Aboriginal kid of course. Now, they never officially expelled him. They just said he wasn't welcome on their grounds any more. This meant they never declared the expulsions to government.
So why was he expelled. First school... Not paying attention was 90% of his suspensions... In preprimary. Second school ... Running away from class. Both pretty understandable for a kid with severe PTSD.
It took the public school years to get him back in the classroom. He hasn't been suspended once.
Our local public high school isn't great. He only has one public high school to choose from. I took him to an interview at a private school in our area. After the interview we were told the school was full. This is how they get around the disability discrimination act. His friend attended an interview and wasn't told the same thing.
    Parent choice... For some.
