The female guitarist Korey Cooper is married to the lead singer, John Cooper. The drummer is Jen Ledger. She actually has a solo album too.

That's awesome. I'm going through old tapes as I think I may have actually interviewed Jen Ledger over the phone a decade or so ago. The name sounds so familiar.

It is pretty subtle in their music, but Skillet is a very outspoken Christian band. They are very conservative as well.

Oh my, such a great band, not sure where to start. LOL Jen is an incredible drummer, but wait until you hear her sing... and she sings lead & near-lead type parts while drumming, which blows my mind. This was a pretty simple, straightforward rock sound compared to a lot of their stuff. Much of it is more symphonic metal... a lot of it has an epic, soundtrack nature, or anthem (ex: WWE uses their song 'Legendary').
A few of my favourites... 'Awake and Alive', 'Comatose', 'I Want to Live', 'Not Gonna Die' which all have that epic symphonic metal sound.
'Surviving the Game' is heavier off their most recent album, and is a must (talk about getting stuck in your head... it has like 3 or 4 hooks).
'Salvation' and 'Victorious' are great songs featuring Jen's vocals. Victorious was a song John wrote as a tribute to Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.
'Save Me' (I like Live from London version), 'Hero', 'The Resistance' all really rock. 'Whispers In the Dark' is an older song, with killer guitar riffs.
About them... a lot of people say Christian band, but more a band of Christians. There are Christian themes in some of their lyrics, but you won't always pick them up unless you're a Christian. Most of them aren't overt, or could be taken other ways. John (lead vocal/bass) and Korey (rhythm guitar, keyboards, etc.) are married and have toured their whole marriage of over 25 years. Jen (drummer) joined the band when she was quite young, and John wasn't crazy about the idea, so he gave her 'Tom Sawyer' by Rush as her audition piece, but she killed it and the rest is history. LOL. Seth is a pretty great lead guitarist (and as I'm guilty of here, too) doesn't get enough recognition. They also tour with a cello player and used to have a violinist (you'll hear the strings in many of their tracks).
Super high energy band... they are incredible in concert. 2nd best concert I've been to, only being beat by Rush (Presto tour). They are known for their crazy touring schedule. 11 albums, with the 12th coming Nov 1. 2 time Grammy nominated, 12-time platinum, 'Monster' is one of the top streamed rock songs of all time (over 4 billion streams). Enjoy!

I appreciate all this info! I’ve honestly not heard them much as they were just starting to get airplay on radio as I was just starting to get fired from radio. 🤣
I expected more Christian undertones here (like Creed’s early albums) and was surprised that this was rather straight forward rock. I’ve definitely gotta check out more!!!

@@ReactionsThatRock This one *is* pretty straight forward, with a message against cancel-culture and trolls. You'll certainly hear those undertones in some of their songs... some more obvious than others.
I used to play in a few worship bands years ago, and attended concerts like DC Talk, Michael W Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, etc. and those were Christian or Christian rock. So, that's why I differentiate Skillet as more of a band of Christians.
Skillet tours with all kinds of secular bands (currently on tour with Seether), just has a more positive message, sometimes with strong Christian undertones. Skillet does have a few straight-out worship songs. Most of them are more like you'll hear certain phrases and go... wait a minute, that's not talking about a human relationship, necessarily.
Then they have stuff that is even more zombie-apocalypse or graphic novel. One with a pretty cool video is, 'Psycho In My Head'. Or, 'Back From the Dead' is like a little mini-movie, cinematic trailer.

Ooh. How was it? I keep meaning to do a reaction but so many Russian artists are blocked on TH-cam here as they somehow blame them for Putin. 🤷‍♂️

Wow it's weird to hear what's basically a diss track from Skillet. And yes, they're still a Christian band with songs like Anchor (softer, ballad style) or Kingdom (heavier).
Speaking of women in rock: Have you heard of Ado yet? I'd strongly recommend her Tot Musica live performance. Tot Musica is a metal/screamo song with Japanese/English/Runic lyrics and out of this world raw vocals.

Yeah it kinda did have a “F the haters” vibe to it, albeit a bit more diplomatically. 🤣
I’ve not heard Ado yet. Added to my list! Thanks!
