It’s no surprise it’s the most listened to song from Ride, it’s definitely more suitable for the average listener because it’s really slow, but still a very powerful tune. Buts it’s far from my favorites
But at least Leper Messiah isn’t, I always love that song. But MOP album is all great. But to me The Thing That Should Not Be would easily be my least listened from that.
I had a feeling Enter Sandman would be number 1 or at least close.... Local radio (multiple stations) plays that song three or more times a day, but for some reason won't play any other songs from them🧐
The ranking is not what really matters for their discography is insane (not many bad songs), and there are +100 songs they've made that are going from really good to legendary. I'm Ok with song even from the 5 first legendary albums being ranked underneath some more modern albums. It's just a matter of personal preferences. The issue on this list is the numbers of people who likes those songs: Any good Metallica song should have been at least liked over 100 million times on Spotify. Only 22 of their songs (if you include the 2 covers "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Turn the Page", overwise it's only 20 songs) have reached this popularity so far, with perhaps "The 4 Horsemen" which should reach that threshold within a couple of days... It's up to us, Metallica fans to make sure younger generations that have no interest in records and that just picks whatever song they wish to listen to on their streaming service gets to know about all the songs that are way behind that +100 million likes...
Stone Dead Forever on the Garage Inc. Rebel of Babylon on the Beyond magnetic The Remember Tomorrow cover from Iron Maiden being the least favorite non album/non EP track of the list And is Poor Twisted Me really the weakest song on the Load album (compared for instance to Cure)? Not so sure about that either...

Wow thanks for compiling this. Listening to so many great Metallica songs in small snippets. Genuinely surprised how low some of my favourite were outside the top 100. Just goes to show how many great songs Metallica have created or covered.

Some General inferences from this: Most songs that I felt "should" be higher, are mostly album closers or near the end of long albums. So most casual listeners are not likely to go there first. Also title tracks are generally higher than most songs. Older singles with videos are also higher than songs from the same album that don't have videos. Lastly of course, the more "radio-friendly"songs will always be more streamed.
