    Word around Sacramento is that trading shump was more of a move to hook him up. Vlade knew they were trading for barnes and shump would have a much more limited role. Vlade being an ex player and knowing shump is in a contract year, he sent him to a team that should go deep into the playoffs so he could play for a better contract. I think this shows future free agents that Sacramento is a place that will treat you right.

    Otto Porter is a significantly better player than BI. Offensively and defensively superior, just a lower usage guy. Porter was way more valuable.

    • @SLICENSLASH
      @SLICENSLASH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. Otto is a solid 3&D role player, but he is in no way aggressive enough offensively.
      Brandon Ingram isn't as efficient as Otto but he's a more aggressive & versatile offensive weapon. He doesn't shoot the 3 as well, but you can put more offensive responsibility on his shoulders. That's something you simply cannot do with Otto Porter.

    • @benxenos9875
      @benxenos9875 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@SLICENSLASH Might that not be more about how he is used than who he is as a player?
      I would rather have a guy who knows his role and preforms it efficiently and effectively than someone who might be more talented, but lacks polish, defensive intensity and consistency. I get what you are saying, but comparing Otto to Ingram based on offensive responsibility and aggressiveness simply isn't fair; they are both asked to do different roles, and neither would preform the other's role very well. What I would say is that Otto is way better and more valuable at what he does than BI is at what he does. In terms of 3+D wings, Otto might be top 5 in the NBA. In terms of scorers and offensive playmakers, is BI even in the top 20?

    • @SLICENSLASH
      @SLICENSLASH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benxenos9875 I understand the point you're trying to make about who is better at their particular role; but value is still value.
      I've literally seen coach Scott Brooks publicly criticize & plead with Otto Porter to be more aggressive offensively over a number of seasons, especially this one; but Otto just doesn't have that DNA. And actually I'm to a point where I think if you raise his touches & attempts you may hurt his performance. So there is probably a literal roof to his game.
      Whereas Ingram when poked & prodded by the coaching staff can actually put up significant numbers.
      You are correct about his inconsistency, but the roof is significantly higher.
      The question is, who is a better player? Not who is an easier fit on any team. That's Otto, but BI is a better player, capable of more although finding his niché is still a problem.

    • @benxenos9875
      @benxenos9875 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SLICENSLASH But see, I think fit is more important than simply raw skill. When you ask who the "better" player is, we aren't talking about talent or potential. If so, Andrew Wiggins should be considered a top 10 player in the NBA, yet anybody who watches him play knows he isn't anywhere near the top 75. So in that way I think we might just have slightly different definitions there; BI is the better player in isolation, but the game isn't played in isolation. I see Otto's ceiling as an elite level 3rd option for a championship contender, which is a very valuable thing to be. What is BI's ceiling? Does anybody feel confidant about his fit as a primary or secondary ball handler? Iso scorer? High energy rim runner? He really does not fit any of those descriptions. I think that to make him the player he could be, one would have to build an entire team around his skillset, and if you did that I just don't have faith he will ever be good enough to make that team a late-round playoff contender.
      With that said, there are a couple of things you point out that are interesting:
      1: Brooks. I personally think he is a sub-par coach who has underwhelmed with the talent available to him in OKC and Washington. His evaluation of Porter has always done a disservice; he's asking him to be more aggressive, but I think that's the wrong message to send. Otto is a player who picks his spots, knows where he is effective and does not try things outside of his skillset, and that's okay. He might grow into something more than that, but as long as he continues to be a plus defender, that kind of offensive contribution is just fine.
      2: I think its possible both of these players have been done a disservice by the teams they have been on. For Otto, he has been pressured to take on roles he shouldn't be handling at this point in his career. He is asked to be the primary wing defender, be the primary tool for spacing and create his own shot on and off the ball. Personally, I think he should be your second best defender who can lock down secondary scorers, and run off of screens as a third or fourth option on offense, with some post touches on switches (he is one of the most underrated post players in the game, especially when a guard is on him).
      3: Wall. The Wizards are basically controlled by two people: Wall and Grunfeld. The problem is, Wall is horrible for this team's chemistry and stops the ball. You see the same pattern happen without Wall on the floor for Washington, and its been going on for like 7 years now; the team improves and has more fun when he is off the floor, and the ball+player movement improves significantly even with Brooks and his subpar schemes. Now factor in the tension and chemistry nightmare that is that locker rom, and I think that its possible Otto hasn't felt comfortable enough to expand his game, for fear of a guy like Wall making your life hell on a daily basis if you start asking for more touches or iso scoring opportunities. Not saying that's how it is, just that I would not be surprised at all if it were a factor.
      I think you make good points tho. Both players have potential to be a lot more than they are, I will say that much. Ive been pretty disappointed with both, I just see more progress with Otto than BI.

    • @SLICENSLASH
      @SLICENSLASH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benxenos9875 We'll just have to agree to disagree.
      In my eyes Otto Porter is really no better than a 4th scorer on a championship team. Spaces the floor, shoots efficiently, defends multiple positions, but can't handle any significant offensive responsibility other than to hit the shots created for him or coming off of screens.
      Brandon Ingram imo is a secondary ballhandler on a solid team and a tertiary ballhandler/option on a championship team. He can run point in "doses", defend multiple positions, beat his dfdr off the dribble & create for others. Just too inefficient of a shooter to build an offense around as a primary scorer atleast at this point is his career.
      We could come up with numerous reasons/excuses why both of them have yet to live up to their draft selection, but at this point the player who still projects toward their expected potential is Brandon. I mean when Otto was drafted "he" said his game resembles Kevin Durant...smh. Scouts saw BI & compared him to KD. Neither is close, but BI atleast has a star player skillset although not the consistency. Otto's skillset is not of a star, but rather a quality role player. More reason why he'll fit well on the Bulls. He won't interfere with the development of their young players.

  • @grunermrk
    @grunermrk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing you guys didn't take into account in your predictions for who comes out of the East. Budenholzer has historically been a terrible coach in playoff situations. Brett Brown has also shown he is not a good coach even in the regular season but it's just highlighted more in a 7 game series. Raptors are also at a disadvantage with an unproven first year coach but they do have the most playoff experience on their roster by a significant amount over the other teams with the coach being a weak link.

    Grizzlies are trying to convey their pick to the Celtics this year since its not a great draft class.The pick is Top 8 protected this year top 5 next year and then its unprotected. Hence trying to win games allows them to get over this burden so they can start rebuilding properly next year. Thats why they traded Marc Gasol for role players because their depth was by far thrir biggest readon for losing so much this year. I wouldnt call the grizzlies losers

    The fact that you guys think Serge is a better closer than Gasol shows you don't really WATCH the games, you just look at the highlights of games or the boxscore. Ibaka is the reason we have a bottom 5 interior defense. Teams just walk all over us in the paint. Not just big centers that Ibaka can't matchup with, guards just go in for free layups and floaters because he collapses to the net as far back as possible to give them plenty of space. He also might have the lowest IQ of any player on the team. He doesn't step up to contest shooters after they get screens, he only gets easy rebounds, doesn't chase rebounds, can't make 3s at all this year. He's only good because Lowry shoots way less and passes literally half his passes to Ibaka for mid range shots. I don't trust Ibaka to keep making those shots in the playoffs after how horrible he was last year in the playoffs. I don't necessarily trust Gasol on offense to close either, but what I do trust is he won't lose us a game due to some horrible defensive rotation or stupid foul or turnover that Ibaka is so prone to.

Kyrie and Kawhi are the only two proven guys in the east, the other two guys that could win a series are Embiid and Giannis. Now The raptors have Kawhi to match up for a giannis fight and Gasol to slow down embiid. So i think those two teams wont beat them in a series. The Celtics Have horford to slow down both those guys and Morris and brown who can slow down Giannis more than anyone can slow down Kyrie so i got Boston beating those two teams as well (not to mention the coaching edge) Celtics Vs Raptors.. I got Kyrie in the clutch over Kawhi. So toronto gonna have to beat them before the last few minutes of games. With Bostons Team Defense i see them staying in games more than other teams too.. I think Kyrie is the X factor.. nobody has a guy that can step up and guard him. While Boston has someone that can slow down the other 3 stars
