I hope somebody makes a mod similar to this, but just to troll you, it has like 600+ enemies on the map, but they're all in an inaccessible room outside of the playable map area, so you never actually fight anything, it's just a constant build-up of tension with ambient noises, playing enemy sounds behind you at random points, etc. Just name it something like "Anxiety". Heheheh.
At one point a monster does appear, but its projectiles phase straight through you and dies in 1 hit with an invisible corpse sprite, suggesting it was a figment of your paranoia
The monster spam doesn’t seem too bad on its own, though. Seems like exactly what I’d want out of a DOOM survival horror wad. But yeah, something like that doesn’t really fit the Backrooms.

5:13 imagine a doom mod that gives you a shotgun shells at the beginning and tells you that enemies are vulnerable to shotgun damage but no shotgun in the whole mod.
protip: when facing an enemy, aim at them and use linetarget console command to find out its HP and name. helps to judge whether there is a point to fight it.

Same here. The original, simple concept was better than all the brainrot levels, toiletrooms and silly entities. The Backrooms from Kane Pixels have one entity and it isn't the entire focus of the series and doesnt appear in every episode.

In the backrooms site is more like "oh, you want to make a new room with 894 new entities and hazards? Great, go ahead". But thats inside the oficial sites, i cannot speak for other places... (youtube).
Thanks for playing my mod! the red squares are 100% a glitch, honestly I haven't seen anything like that in my testing. Also I'm glad that you went into it with a doom mind set, I wanted to make a level that had the backrooms vibe but played like a doom level, with something extra... honestly haven't played it in awhile but I was certain it was beatable at normal with 75% health remaining. but like I said its been awhile. I'm hopping down the line to update it with more levels and or themes. Also yea you can't kill the ENTITY just run. I'm hopping later to make that chase section less... linear. also yea there are no weird secrets. its just a spooky level with a custom super monster.

About you mentioning a car being in the backrooms, that's actually a thing. In Kane Pixel's backroom series, a car does manage to clip into the backrooms, so there could be a chance that if you were in the backrooms, you could get hit by a random out of nowhere car. Would have been funny if at the end of the shadow monster chase, a car suddenly barrels down the hall, you being able to dodge it, but the monster gets pulverized
It was towards the late start of the playthrough where the scary aspect had died down slightly because of the very common unchanged enemies’ presence diluting the unfamiliar backrooms and made me think this would be rather simple. That survival aspect from the middle to the end was the REAL fear factor for me, that serious desperation for that flawless run had me on edge. It really got pulled together when the final monster chase began that made me have a very positive outlook on this mod. Very fun to watch thanks to your gameplay and your commentary. ^^
This has got to be my favorite map, it feels like a huge love level for the base doom levels, it nearly plays like a doom level, just almost but the ambushes are brilliant, the mod wants you to be desperate, it gives off a similar vibe, like you are playing doom again for the very first time
K, research findings time. I'll start with the elephant in the room (or shadow in this case). The dude is indeed killable. Don't do these tests with what the map offers, it's legit self-ending mission. First thing I want to point out, it seems that the shadow dude gets more and more aggressive the more you attack it. Or at least looks like that. Second, I tried 3 runs as of writing this. First 2 were at the closed up tunnel where the dude can't get in. The third one out in the open. It seems that based on environment, the dude gets more damage or less damage. In this case, I noticed that if you stay in the tunnel while shooting at him (you need to do IDKFA a couple times, the ammo you get in the map is not enough to deal with the dude to begin with) he gets more damage, especially from the BFG (which is obvious) and the rocket launcher (thanks to its blast radius). While out in the open takes less damaage. Also, when it's doing the charger attack, bullets and projectiles just phase through him. With the out in the open test, it took way too long to finish him on like 5 IDKFA's, had to resort to the chainsaw, and apparently the chainsaw makes him die faster. So the way the shadow dude dies, he's just a static image once dead. No more sounds coming from him either. Also, before you pass him in the hallway, if you do enough damage to him, he's gonna come for you, he's not gonna wait for you to try and pass. He's also affected by Berserk, though I would strongly advice against doing so in a normal cheat-free run, especially considering the 1-2 shot kill the dude does. Best way to deal with the shadow dude? Just run away from him, there's no use fighting him.
@averyroscoe91 He's gonna hit you regardless. 1 or 2 hits and would need to start the map again. His HP is big. Also, even if you tried chainsaw, with how its mechanics works, using the chainsaw will only push you towards him.

Yeah, this one was creepy. The Backrooms can be unsettling as-is, adding the Doom elements made it over the top scary! That said, wonderfully done with the video! ⚜️
Based on a couple of TH-cam channels that make videos of the subject, I made the theory that the backrooms are like an inter-space between realities/universes, for example let's imagine each reality as an electrical cable, that can't be put in contact with another because it could cause a short circuit... So the backrooms are the "isolation" that prevents those "cables" from getting in contact, that's why it looks familiar, but at the same time weird, because it is a mixture of things that "leaked" into the backrooms by no-clipping...
I think the Doom engine lends itself heavily to creepy/horror aesthetic as the pixel graphics and the very angular architecture of the level design has this almost surreal quality and in some cases boarders uncanny valley territory.
Honestly, these liminal spaces don't actually bother me. They look quiet and I personally like it a lot. Also, I can't feel any anxiety at all looking at them. It's almost like I'm seeing some random artwork made by some impressionist, cubist or whatever-other-ist famous artist (my apologies, I only understand about pop art related to games and anime/manga XD).
I like all the Evil Dead references you use in this video. Did you see Spooky Pinball just released an Evil Dead pinball machine? It looks super badass. I think that the gameplay part of your videos is the most entertaining... I mean, specifically when you show the gameplay with your comments right when you play it and NOT while editing the video. I think, just a pure 40 minutes or a gameplay with your comments would be the best format. Gameplay + voice.

I played this Mod! But with a Twist for Extra challenge, imagine the Nemesis of Resident Evil 3 chasing you, shooting rockets at you and mutating mutiple time in the game. It's a extra spice to the difficulty on Brutal Doom.
I praise you for managing to play wads like these, tbh outside of THE LORE® these look like they have barely any substance to them and I'd probably fall asleep while trying to play them
I'd love to see you try Scoot Hard DX. It's a really good MLP Doom game/mod based on the MLP grimdark story, Rainbow Factory where Pegasi who fail their flight exam for Cloudsdale are deemed failures and are sent to die in the Rainbow Factory
I hate to say it man but every cut away and comment really takes away from the horror vibe. You're filling the atmosphere with noise and not letting the feeling of dread or suspense set in.

I'd say liminal spaces more specifically tap into the Uncanny Valley, rather than just the Fear of the Unknown in general. They are spaces with which we are familiar under a different context. Remove that context and suddenly something feels subtly off about them. It's the same kind of unsettling fear as seeing a corpse walking around behaving like a normal person. It just feels wrong, and that triggers our survival instinct to tell us that we are in danger. What makes it so unsettling is not being able to consciously identify why things feel "off" or "wrong", but still knowing that they are nonetheless.

You should definitely try Trepang2. Especially on rage mode, that way you get max enemies and mini bosses. Plus the BladeKisser dlc, it adds 2 more crazy ass missions. The game is super awesome, i think you'd really like it.

You should definitely try Trepang2. Especially on rage mode, that way you get max enemies and mini bosses. Plus the BladeKisser dlc, it adds 2 more crazy ass missions. The game is super awesome, i think you'd really like it.
