Wrote Apology for poetry in 1595 (easily notable year) Stephen Gosson in his SCHOOL OF ABUSE criticises poetry that misleads the reading masses and it is in no way beneficial to people, but abuses them. To defend poetry from the scathing attack of the critics, Philip Sidney writes APOLOGY FOR POETRY, one of the mind-blowing works of lit. criticism that grabs the reader's attention in every way. (Water diviner - a person who finds out the availability of water under the earth.) Alexander Pope used heroic couplets. He used only two lines. He used iambic pentameter that consisted of only 10 syllables.
Organon was the tool of Aristotle. He used a method deductive method. But Francis Bacon stressed the inductive method. He explains about the four idols of mind. Tribe, Cave, Market and Theatre. ( The ancients alone followed time, place and action. Hence Shakespeare was criticised that he lacked the unity of the three- time, place and action.) Eugenius was Dryden's patron
