Making a Metal Roller Bender (Ring Rolling Machine)

  • A few weeks ago I had to ring roll some stainless steel while making a weighing frame. However I didn't have a ring roller so just 'got by' with what I had to hand. I have been asked to make some more of the weighing frames so thought I'd have a go at making a metal ring roller. The ring roller is designed primarily for rolling flat stock up to 100mm / 4" wide.

    Nicely made . Very clear and concise narration makes a great change being told what is going on rather than some heinously bad over dubbed music . Hopefully by now it's been used and proves a great tool . As you say a couple of shims possibly and it's a job well done . Thanks I enjoyed watching .

    I'm making a pipe roller and was considering to use hydraulic jack. I gave up the idea because I thought they are leaking and making inconsistent radius. Yours seem to work ok, so now I'm reconsidering.

    Another machine to make when I finally move and get my workshop built. Just got the 250 amp rtec mig and it seems good, hopefully it will be as good as the tig welder I already have

    • @Handmadeextreme
      @Handmadeextreme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good luck with the move. We are in the process at the moment. There is a bigger workshop in the pipeline as well so hope to do some of the bigger projects I've always wanted to do.
      The MIG seems to be going well. I too also have one of their TIG machines. Bought it over 10 years ago and it's still going strong. That's why I approached them to get the MIG.

    Without a broaching tool, mill through the entire sector round stock, slide your keyed shaft in with a key in it. Then slide flat stock in the remaining void, weld in place and turn back to the OD of the shaft. PITA, but it works.

    Hi, when I first saw your bender before actually watching the build, I thought "wow, that's really flexible but maybe a bit of overkill". Now having looked at the performance as built, I think it a brilliant design. To further add to the functionality ( and with the power you have available from the jack! ) I'm tempted to build one with an interchangeable press-brake top that mounts on the same fixings as the top roller

    I assume the 50mm x 50mm x 3mm posts 2" x 2" x .120 wall? I need to roll some 1 x 3 at 14 gauge (~1.5mm wall) for a project would your machine easily do this? If so, could I possibly get you to make the machined parts for me (at some cost obviously) while I fabricate and weld all the other parts? I'd greatly appreciate the help. I have a nice mig/tig machine and have those same bearings on hand. What I don't have however is a lathe and mill. I do actually have an old Logan lathe but I need to restore it and I know nothing about lathing. I can also have some of the parts waterjetted if that would speed up the process (such as the roller cradle).
