    This is amazing! The sound of the N&W hooter and the stack talk, along with the nighttime setting, reminds me of O. Winston Link’s famous recordings of N&W steamers back in the late ‘50s ☺️

    Hearing the stack bark like that hits differently knowing what this Locomotive and the crew went through to get to this point. Nothing will sound better, thanks for capturing this.

    What an awesome sound from days gone by. I'm pretty sure my granddad would perk up at the sound of it.

    Looking good 1309! Hopefully she'll be 100% sometime soon.
    Edit: I still stand by that 1309 is capable of solo runs, the issues will get resolved in the future

      Her first test run this year was without a diesel attached. So she’s capable of solo runs now.

    Yay!! First day of service! Why did it take so long? Restoration was completed almost a year ago. Ik they have to do testing on the locomotive but what happened?

      The track needed to be repaired before mainline operations could commence.

    Does 1309 really have a N&W hooter whistle?

      It appears to be a reproduction.

    Valve timing seems a bit out of square nonetheless it's awesome to see it finally running.

    well its good to see 1218's whistle on a working steam engine :)

    • @trainmaster844
      @trainmaster844 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not necessarily 1218's whistle, but almost all N&W Hooters sound like it.

    The leaks are embarrassing.

    • @cple1
      @cple1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think they are leaks. Most likely drains on supply lines or heat for lubricators.

    • @CaptainCrutch
      @CaptainCrutch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What leaks?

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, its to be expected. Watch videos of UP 4014's early runs, it leaked far worse and was rebuilt on an unlimited budget.
      Having said that, tweaks adjustments being needed at least we get to hear 1309 doing some work, unlike 4014 which pulls a short train and is drifting along pushed by a diesel "most" of the time.
      WMSR did a fabulous job on this restoration.
