I would probably say the same if they had more distinguishing faces; besides the name plates and numbers they look near identical which IS the point but I think it helps ya know?
Just a comedic heads up, I thought Bill and Ben were relatively short engines... but then I found out about the *"Peckett and Sons No 1900"* locomotive... if you guys google it your eyes will break... that thing is the most squashed-down vehicle I've seen in my life.
The Flying Bufferbeam! While true, the 7 1/2Ft Bagnall tank engines are short, the Flying Bufferbeam makes them seem normal with its 5ft and 9 inches height. Some people can say, with confidence, that they are taller than a British steam locomotive! (Unless you’re short, like me).
I’ve actually seen Bill and Ben’s real life basis (Alfred & Judy) and they are SMALL! I actually got a cab ride so that was cool. Have a great day TrainBoy! All the best, Oliver
I remember how bad I wanted Hornby Bill and Ben back in 7th grade and I never thought Bachmann would ever make these guys. But when they were released in my junior year of high school I knew I had to have those! I sold mine since then but I will be getting the models with the new packaging. Really looking forward to completing the collection!
Honestly these look solid. My only point on them would be the nameplates, but that's mostly because if I were to run bill and Ben my head canon would be that they're up to tricks that require no name plates XD Overall I agree they are good. Great vid!

I wish I could remember this guy who takes the bachman models and retools them. His Thomas stuff is really good. New motors, and gears, better looking faces. I used his services to make them more reliable but also installed DCC sound, lighting, a keep alive capacitor, added some weight to them, replaced the couplers with Kadees, and on a few models yanked out the eye mech and replaced it with a smoke unit. He offers these services commercially and he has a website where you can either buy completed models off of him or you can send in your own for a lower price. I wish I knew his website because it would be nice to support him but I only met him through a model railroad club.
Bill and Ben! You have caused confusion and delay! The students are telling me that you can’t finish a single lesson! “It’s not my fault sir, it’s Ben’s.” “It’s not! It’s Bill’s!”
Donald and Douglas are great bachmann models, I would suggest getting them, they are great runners and easy to paint, I painted mine into Caledonian blue
Bachmann motors are ... interesting. My Bachmann Bill and Ben are quiet runners. In his review of Mavis, Samstrains commented how quiet her motor is, while mine has the loudest whirring of any of my models. Been loud since the day I got her, been serviced, she's just loud. Guess buying a Bachmann motor is like playing the lottery. Also, I was today years old when I noticed Bachmann Bill and Ben have the Brendam Bay lettering on their fronts.
I just found this channel and it cracks me up. I'm 26 and would never thought I would be watching a TH-cam channel about Tomas. Lol. It's sad that the kids don't watch the original as the originals helped me get into mold trains.
Great review as always man! By chance, have you considered doing a video going over your Bachmann locos and going from least favourite to most favourite? Personally speaking, it would be interesting to hear your personal thoughts on what you think are the best and worst models Bachmann have produced. It's totally up to you obviously, just an idea. Again, awesome video as always 🙂
My favorite Bachmann models are Edward (Which I own also planning to get a 2nd model for christmas), the China clay twins Bill and Ben. LBSC Thomas, Mavis, Salty, Donald and Douglas for HO/OO scale. Actually I'm planning to buy either Bill or Ben next year!
These are brilliant compared to the original hornby ones. They reused a standard chassis for them and just scaled up the body to fit them. They were absolutely massive.
If you can, please do a review on bachmanns Emily model. Imo, it is their most accurate model in their roster. I’ve never handled one before so I can’t be sure about the mechanism, but I think it’d be worth checking out.
My bill and Ben broke when I opened their boxes. They function, but the hook on their couplings fell off. I really don’t do Bachman very much but the little demons I run from time to time.
The Bachmann Bill and Ben models are very good. And I think every Bachmann model has it's down points. I'm curious to see how the Bachmann models of Bill and Ben compare to the model made by Hornby.
Be carefull not to use the models too much. My model of ben was only half an year old as the motor gave up. Thomas and other ones folled quickly had to replace all of the motors and gears with expensive ones from fleischmann.
you mustve had bad luck then ive had my thomas models 10+ years and theyve been used and abused and they are all original. The only one ive replaced was Edward because i used him so much
I think it should be said that Bachmann is notorious for having lackluster build quality and should be considered "low-end" when talking about model railroad companies, I've always had issues with Bachmann models and this is not limited to their Thomas & Friends line of products. Just to name a couple examples of issues, my Thomas model I purchased in 2018 always smells like burning when I run it, I have re-oiled it as I thought that the factory lubrication was dried up but to no avail as it turned out to be the crappy motor they seem to put in all of their models. I also have a "real smoke" steam engine that ran about 12 times over the course of a year and stopped working completely, I opened it up and the two vital copper contacts that connect the motor to the chassis are visibly darkened and one of them was completely blown off. Never mind the contacts that connect the chassis to the wheels are noticeably brittle, it's such a shame that very important parts that are necessary to run the models are so cheap and low quality. For a company that sells remarkably cheesy products they sure do charge premium prices. I try to avoid purchasing their engines and rollingstock, and I suggest others do the same.
Yeah found that with my Bachmann thomas, after a week of running it would just stop out of no we're and never start up again, it happened twice, on 2 diffrent thomas's
