According to the rules you cannot move your bugs until your Queen has been placed. Can you however move one of your bugs (or your opponents) with your pillbug before your Queen has been placed?
That is an interesting question that I don't believe has ever been asked. Good job! for coming up with that. Here is what is published in the rules that came with my original Hive set: "Once your Queen Bee has been placed (but not before), you can decide whether to use each turn after that to place another piece or to move one of the pieces that have already been placed." Notice that it says 'to move one of the pieces' not 'to move one of your pieces.' Based on the wording of that statement, the answer would be 'No.' And this, in fact, is how the Pillbug rules have always been applied. I had to stop and think if this could actually come up. White cannot do it with or without Tournament Opening Rule Black can do it with either Opening Rule. White places a starting bug Black places the Pillbug White places the second bug (one of the first two bugs must be the Queen) Black places a second bug (not the Queen) White moves the Queen, freeing the starting bug Black uses the Pillbug to move the starting bug White places or moves Black places the Queen
@@PlayHiveLikeaChampion hmm so it is possible for black? Interesting. Although probably not something that would ever come up in actual play. Thank you
@@conorleyden9201 He’s not saying that the Pillbug can ever legally move another bug before its Queen is played (even for black). He was just noting that only Black could ever be put in a situation where its Pillbug would be next to a movable bug before its Queen was placed.
If a bug captures one of my pieces next to a 💊 bug can I move only the bug or do I have to move both pieces
The Pillbug cannot move any piece that is part of a stack
Thank you
@@davidquasar187 you are welcome!
